He Yuan had a bit of alcohol, but fortunately, his driver Yu Zhao was waiting outside. Yu Zhao was not only his driver but also his personal bodyguard.
As soon as He Yuan got into the car, he called Lin Yue.
At that moment, she was squatting by the roadside, waiting for Zhou Yunce’s contact information. Seeing He Yuan’s call, she froze for a moment, thinking it was work-related. She quickly cleared her throat and answered.
“Hello, President He.”
He Yuan unexpectedly asked, “Where are you right now?”
Lin Yue instinctively replied, “At home.”
He Yuan remembered her employment records and said, “In the Fengyun Residential Area on Fengyun Road, Jiangbei?”
“Yes,” Lin Yue replied instinctively.
He Yuan said, “Then wait for me at the entrance of your community.”
After that, he hung up.
Lin Yue was confused. Could it be a sudden business trip? What about her luggage? She hurriedly pulled her luggage to the community entrance. Luckily, He Yuan was still some distance away. With no other choice, she left the luggage with the security guard and stood by the roadside waiting.
The distance was far, and even after forty minutes, He Yuan hadn’t arrived. Still, Lin Yue didn’t dare complain.
He Yuan kept checking his watch and instructed Yu Zhao to drive faster. Eventually, taking the highway, He Yuan’s low-profile luxury car arrived in front of Lin Yue after about twenty minutes.
Before Lin Yue could step forward to open the car door for him, He Yuan got out himself.
“President He.”
“Where’s your luggage?”
They both asked simultaneously.
Lin Yue froze. “What luggage?”
He Yuan said, “When you called just now, I was nearby. A few friends are gathering tonight. Assistant Zhou drank, and I happened to have the driver, so I came over.”
Lin Yue was still confused.
“Come back with me first. I’ll help you with the accommodation issue.”
“Huh?” Lin Yue instinctively stepped back half a pace. “I-I can just find a hotel myself.”
He Yuan frowned slightly. “Lin Secretary, I’ll solve your accommodation within three days. Come with me first. If you keep staying in a hotel until you find a place, even if you overdraft next month’s salary, it probably won’t be enough.”
Mentioning salary hit Lin Yue’s weak spot.
But staying at her boss’s house made her hesitant.
“Don’t worry. If you feel uncomfortable, I’ll stay at my parents’ for a few days.”
“No need,” Lin Yue quickly said. She didn’t dare ask her boss to leave.
“Alright then. But, President He, can I stay in the worker’s room?”
He Yuan sighed slightly. “Sure, there are three worker rooms in the house.”
Lin Yue finally relaxed.
He Yuan asked again, “Where’s your luggage?”
Lin Yue pointed behind her. “With the security guard.”
He Yuan signaled Yu Zhao to fetch it and helped open the car door for Lin Yue.
Not sure if it was hunger or fatigue, Lin Yue instinctively got in the car. Only then did she realize she not only let her boss open the door for her but also sat in the back seat.
Heavens! Could she still get out now?
He Yuan got in too, making Lin Yue feel extremely uneasy.
After Yu Zhao placed the luggage, he slowly started driving.
Lin Yue was worrying about what to say to avoid an awkward silence when He Yuan spoke first.
“Secretary Lin, you wanted Vice President Wei’s contact to ask about company dorms, right?”
Lin Yue tilted her head. “Yes.”
“As my secretary, your commuting and living arrangements can’t be the same as regular employees. Everything has to follow my schedule. Sharing a room with others might not be convenient.”
Lin Yue nodded. She had the same thought herself.
“But company dorm single rooms are usually reserved for A-level or management personnel, right?”
He Yuan chuckled lightly. “That’s true, but you’re not in that group. You should understand, all your work serves me. This counts as a special case. You can have a single room in the dorm, though it’s probably not very large, maybe fifty to sixty square meters.”
“That’s fine,” Lin Yue said. “I don’t have high demands.”
He Yuan nodded. “Because the dorm is company-developed property, rent will be relatively low for Hengxing employees. It might be a bit more than your previous place but shouldn’t exceed three thousand.”
“I understand.”
“Okay, I’ll have Wei Jia arrange it for you tomorrow.”
“Thank you, President He.”
He Yuan acknowledged lightly.
When they arrived at He Yuan’s house, Yu Zhao helped carry the luggage upstairs.
He Yuan said to Aunt Qian, “Please show her to the remaining worker room.”
Aunt Qian looked puzzled but said nothing. “Sir, the worker room?”
He Yuan explained, “Yes. She’s not staying in the guest bedroom.”
Aunt Qian understood immediately and liked Lin Yue even more.
She was about to guide Lin Yue to the room when she noticed the scrape on Lin Yue’s arm.
“Oh, what happened? It’s bleeding.”
He Yuan stopped, grabbed Lin Yue’s arm, rotated his hand slightly, and frowned. “Why didn’t you say earlier?”
“It’s okay. The wound looks worse than it is. It’ll heal in a few days.”
Aunt Qian said, “Child, don’t take any injury lightly.”
He Yuan didn’t let go but saw the injury wasn’t severe. He then said to Aunt Qian, “Please bring the first-aid kit. I’ll clean the wound first.”
“Alright, I’ll get it.”
He Yuan took Lin Yue to the bathroom, set the shower to a small stream, and gently washed the wound.
When they returned to the living room, Aunt Qian was waiting.
He Yuan gestured for Lin Yue to sit on the sofa. “Please give her a bowl of noodles,” he said to Aunt Qian.
“Okay.”
Lin Yue felt a bit embarrassed but couldn’t refuse. She was starving and felt a warm sense of comfort.
“Give me your hand,” He Yuan said softly.
Perhaps because his tone was so gentle, Lin Yue instinctively placed her hand in his warm, large palm. When their skin touched, both were momentarily startled.
“It might hurt a bit. Bear with it; I’ll disinfect it first.”
“Okay.”
When the iodine touched her skin, Lin Yue flinched but didn’t make a sound. The sting was brief.
He Yuan blew on the wound and gently sprinkled some medicine powder on it.
“Before you shower, let Aunt Qian wrap it with waterproof bandages.”
Lin Yue nodded. “Thank you, President He.”
“Mm, go eat first. I have some work in the study. Eat and rest early.”
Lin Yue watched He Yuan leave, a feeling she couldn’t describe well rising in her heart.
