What is the most important factor of being reincarnated into another world?
Why, it’s obviously the various cool and flashy skills!
Who knows how many people dream of being able to master “magic” one day and make that sweet dream of theirs come true.
Naturally,
I’m no exception.
Over the past few days,
I’ve temporarily slowed down my hunting activities.
Earlier, I stored up a whole bunch of extra SP through the [Overeating] skill, which is plenty enough for me to mess around in some obscure little corner of the labyrinth.
I know that there are still plenty of super scary, insanely powerful big shots in this labyrinth.
In order to boost my strength as quickly as possible,
I’ve been frantically training my ability to cast magic, not daring to slack off for even a single second.
I’m working really, really hard, okay?
No doubting me allowed!
And after that previous skill point “fire sale,” I finally met the basic requirements to use magic—namely, the two lowest-tier skills of the “Detection” tree:
[Magic Power Operation] and [Magic Power Perception].
Of course, I wouldn’t be stupid enough to learn the [Detection] skill itself right now.
If I really want to get it, that’ll have to wait until later.
My current soul strength isn’t anywhere near enough to handle the information overload that [Detection] brings.
That’s precisely why the skill points needed to acquire [Detection], the highest-tier skill in the “Detection” tree, are so ridiculously low.
Because trying to use it properly…
is just way too difficult.
Back when Kumoko tried to learn magic in the early stages, she was hugely troubled by this exact skill, too.
As a top-tier skill, [Detection] integrates all detection-type skills, including [Magic Power Operation] and [Magic Power Perception], meaning those sub-skills can’t be singled out and used individually.
So when Kumoko wanted to practice her magic back then, she was forced to activate [Detection].
And since early-stage Kumoko naturally couldn’t handle the sheer volume of information that [Detection] dumped on her, she obviously had no choice but to put her magic training on hold during that period.
It was only after she obtained [Perseverance], one of the Seven Virtues skills, that the situation completely turned around.
The [Heresy Nullification] granted by the title [Ruler of Perseverance] allowed its owner to be completely immune to any interference aimed at the soul.
Thus, [Detection] became a top-tier skill with zero side effects.
Combine that with the [Height of Occultism] brought by [Wisdom], and BOOM—a mobile artillery unit with infinite MP, instantaneous casting, and high damage was born!
*Sigh*…
But that’s not me.
My journey of magical exploration is excruciatingly difficult and tedious.
Just trying to feel the flow of magic power in the air takes a ridiculous amount of effort, not to mention trying to control it to build spell formulas, or attempting to construct high-difficulty, advanced magic spells.
Yep!
So what skills do I actually have?
Is it top-tier detection?
Ultimate magic mastery?
Or an almost limitless pool of MP?
Oh!
That is just super awesome.
….
*Sigh*, to be totally honest, these past few days of magic training have really been pure misery.
The construction speed and the spell’s power are both huge problems.
I finally understand how terrifying Kumoko’s [Height of Occultism] actually is.
With my current half-baked level, this isn’t going to be of much use in actual combat at all.
I can’t open with instant-cast suppression, nor can I counter with high-damage strikes.
Enemies aren’t going to stand there like total idiots waiting for me to construct a magic circle.
To maintain stability, casting magic inherently requires complete and total concentration.
And in the middle of a rapidly shifting battle, having an opportunity like that is practically impossible.
You either have to rely on your level and proficiency to make up for it in speed, or rely on a teammate’s coordination to secure a decent setup to output damage.
Yep!
I don’t have either of those two things!
Nice, nice.
…
Heave-ho!
“[Dark Bullet]!”
After a round of intense, hyper-focused construction,
I snapped my tightly closed eyes open, raised my little claw, and in an instant, the magic power frantically gathering from all directions poured out wildly from the tip of my claw, condensing into a ball of magic that was so deep purple it looked almost black!
Guided by my will, the spell formula I had just constructed shot forward violently, slamming heavily right into the rock in front of me!
*BOOM!*
Accompanied by a loud explosion!
[Dark Bullet] successfully detonated.
Uhh…
Forcing a fake smile onto my face, I walked forward, using my claw to gently stroke the exact spot on the rock that had just taken the hit.
*Hss*…
I tilted my head in confusion.
Did I pick the wrong rock?
Why is there not even a single scratch on this thing☆?
That shouldn’t be…
I must have targeted the wrong one then…
Yep, that’s right.
Must be it!
How could a magic spell I poured my heart and soul into constructing have zero power behind it?
I must just be seeing things and accidentally mistook the rock.
Mhm, mhm, that’s definitely it.
*Haaa*…
I stretched my back, massaging my sore forelimbs.
Since I worked so hard today,
I’ll reward myself with a little break!
Yay!
Wagging my tail excitedly, I bounced and hopped over toward the nearby patch of moss, leaving behind a lone rock blowing in the wind, completely bewildered.
…
AAAHHH!
Why why WHY?!
What happened to the high-tier magic?!
What happened to the devastating power?!
This is way too hard to use!!
I’m so mad!
I’m so mad!
What a total waste of my skill points!
I frantically pounded on the wall in front of me, venting the frustration in my heart over and over again.
D-Damn it…
How can I just give up on myself over a tiny setback like this?
Again…
Again!
Eeyahhhh…!
I kept constructing magic over and over, completely failing to notice that my MP and SP were draining away at a terrifying speed.
…
*Huff*…
*Huff*…
No, no no no.
I can do this…
I can do it…
So many monsters possess impressive magic…
Why can they all do it?
Why?
Why?
Why why why why why…
Why can’t I…
Why can’t I…
These things should belong to me…
Mine…
*Pant*…
*Pant*…
