Zhao Rui, a flying ability-user, immediately led several teammates to search the encampment after Fei Yucheng reported the situation. Sure enough, they found more than a dozen low-level zombies hiding in the shadows.
This was not a good sign.
What if there were still high-level zombies lurking undetected? Not to mention the approaching zombie horde from the rear.
So Zhao Rui immediately arranged for the injured to be evacuated while the rest focused on protecting the critical supplies.
Without supplies, at this intensity of attack, they wouldn’t last long.
After dealing with these two major problems, Zhao Rui suddenly remembered Fei Yucheng’s friend.
The zombie positions had been sent back by that child.
He hurried to find Fei Yucheng, intending to rescue the child first… only to have his world collapse.
Fei Yucheng was missing!
Zhao Rui didn’t dare waste a moment and immediately forwarded the news to Mei Jun.
It would take Mei Jun and his team some time to return from the front, and Zhao Rui grew anxious. He decided to fly to the rear himself, monitoring the zombie horde while trying to locate the child who sent the positions.
It was almost 5 a.m.
Zhao Rui flew cautiously, thinking Fei Yucheng might be rescuing his friend and that the two of them could be hiding somewhere. He deliberately slowed down, not wanting to overshoot them.
The rear of the encampment was an open field overgrown with weeds, providing plenty of hiding spots.
But after searching all these areas, Zhao Rui found no sign of either of them.
Beyond that lay a massive, writhing zombie horde.
Zhao Rui’s heart sank. He feared the two children were in grave danger.
Just then, a message from Mei Jun arrived on his wrist. His teammates had returned, and Zhao Rui sighed, turning to go back.
But at that moment, a series of explosions suddenly erupted behind him—
Explosions?
Zhao Rui froze, flying a little higher, and saw several plumes of thick smoke in the distance.
At the very rear of the zombie horde.
In front of him was a hail of gunfire, but Fei Yucheng paid it no mind.
All his attention was on the mid-level zombie that Tu Sanqi had captured and was using to channel abilities.
Its grayish-white skin was riddled with cracks, its pupilless eyes burning with rage. Its gaping maw had been stuffed with straw by Tu Sanqi, which seemed to enrage it even more. Its abilities had been active from the start and never stopped.
Of course, none of this power had harmed the two of them.
Tu Sanqi had fashioned a funnel-like container above the ability bullet machine, channeling all of the mid-level zombie’s power into it, which the machine then absorbed.
Fei Yucheng kept a close watch on the zombie while frantically operating the controls to feed bullets to Tu Sanqi.
It had taken time to subdue and bind the zombie, so by the time the bullets were ready, the main horde had moved slightly farther away—but it wasn’t a problem.
Once she ensured the mid-level zombie couldn’t break free, Tu Sanqi grabbed her gun and ran after the zombies.
The nearest targets were mid-level zombies, and Tu Sanqi made no effort to hold back. Her bullets tore through them relentlessly—aiming was unnecessary.
The captured mid-level zombie’s ability was fire-based, so the bullets transformed into small explosives upon firing, blasting several zombies away.
Low-level zombies had no independent thought, only the instinct to eat. Clearly, the front-line low-level zombies only moved in a unified direction under the command of the mid-level ones.
As long as the mid-level zombies were eliminated, the low-level ones were easy to handle.
Thinking of this, Tu Sanqi felt a twinge of regret.
If she had carried a machine gun, she could have wiped out the mid-level zombies in ten minutes.
The rear was under attack, and a large group of mid-level zombies had turned to advance. Tu Sanqi remained unfazed, retreating while firing.
After three waves, she quickly ran back to Fei Yucheng.
By then, the mid-level zombie used as a “power source” had visibly weakened. Fei Yucheng never imagined he’d see a zombie look so pathetic.
Tu Sanqi, however, felt uneasy.
Looking at the pile of bullets at Fei Yucheng’s feet—only a couple hundred rounds—the zombie had been fierce, but the bullets weren’t nearly enough.
She decisively fired one final shot at it, and Fei Yucheng, quick on the uptake, grabbed the machine and ammo and ran with her.
Tu Sanqi ran and fired, but soon noticed a target in the sky.
“This zombie can fly?!” she exclaimed, raising her gun.
Fei Yucheng suddenly remembered something and looked up carefully. As the dark shape descended, he recognized the two figures.
“Don’t shoot!” he shouted in relief, stopping Tu Sanqi from pulling the trigger. “It’s Rui! Zhao Rui—he’s a flying ability-user!”
Tu Sanqi froze for a moment, slowing down. Squinting, she saw the two rushing straight toward them.
Zhao Rui had come with Chen Tianlei.
The mid-level zombies were still chasing from behind, but Chen Tianlei, though interested in the ability bullets, didn’t dare chat at this critical moment.
Upon landing, Chen Tianlei laid down with his machine gun and shouted to Fei Yucheng holding the bullets, “Yucheng! Here, give me the bullets!”
Fei Yucheng ran over immediately.
Tu Sanqi finally relaxed.
The appearance of these two meant Mei Jun’s reinforcements had arrived, and the front-line low-level zombies could soon be dealt with.
She still carried several guns, but now that she could relax, she sank to the ground, exhausted.
Zhao Rui, thinking she was hurt, helped her up. “I’ll take you back first.”
Tu Sanqi glanced at Fei Yucheng; with Chen Tianlei there, she had nothing to worry about, so she nodded and left the guns to Fei Yucheng.
Zhao Rui carried her back to the encampment.
With the machine gun, Chen Tianlei easily swept through the horde. Seeing the mid-level zombies under control, he finally had time to chat with Fei Yucheng.
“You still have bullets here? The captain said they were all used up,” Chen Tianlei said, pouting.
Fei Yucheng carefully packed the machine and started loading bullets for him, explaining, “We only made three boxes before. These are the ones we just produced.”
“Just now?” Chen Tianlei was surprised. “Aren’t you guys just techies? Where did the abilities come from?”
Fei Yucheng said, “Tu Sanqi captured a mid-level zombie.”
Chen Tianlei laughed, thinking it a joke. “You kids are teasing me!”
Fei Yucheng: “….”
He just gave him a calm look and said nothing further.
