Tu Sanqi was indeed surrounded by zombies.
Because she couldn’t see whether there was another group of high-level zombies behind the mid-level ones, she cautiously crawled forward a little more.
As she moved, the horde also advanced toward her.
Unknowingly, in a tense game of mutual approach, Tu Sanqi found herself at the very center of the zombie horde.
But this time, unlike before, the zombies didn’t chase her to bite.
She hadn’t yet found proper cover, yet the low-level zombies passing by her not only didn’t attack but even instinctively kept their distance.
Realizing something, Tu Sanqi’s emotions were mixed as she pulled out a mirror—
Sure enough, she saw her own red eyes.
Tsk.
Tu Sanqi wasn’t sure whether to feel relieved or worried.
She crawled back a little, and the zombies around her gradually shifted from low-level to mid-level.
Compared to low-level zombies, mid-level zombies were slightly stronger and had a bit more awareness.
They weren’t mindless like low-level zombies—but also didn’t have the intelligence of high-level zombies.
Tu Sanqi didn’t immediately try to suppress her red eyes. Seeing that the mid-level zombies ignored her, she stood up and boldly moved through the horde.
Fortunately, no high-level zombies appeared behind the mid-level ones. Tu Sanqi relaxed slightly and turned to move back, making sure to send updates to Fei Yucheng.
But as she moved, she noticed something strange… looking up, she saw a figure running at full speed—not far away, it was Fei Yucheng!
Fei Yucheng had slipped out of the encampment with his toolbox and a few guns.
Zhao Rui and the others had forgotten about Tu Sanqi, but he couldn’t forget!
After leaving a message for Zhao Rui, he moved toward Tu Sanqi’s location.
Yet the closer he got, the farther away she seemed to be.
The approaching zombie horde made him instinctively hold his breath, even under a mask. Carefully breathing, he tried contacting Tu Sanqi while advancing.
But reality was harsh.
A small noise escaped, and he was quickly noticed by the zombies.
Pairs of monstrous eyes locked onto him. His heart raced, and in panic, he forgot to even ready his gun, thinking only:
Run!!!
Tu Sanqi watched in shock as Fei Yucheng ran wildly like a headless fly. The startled low-level zombies multiplied around him.
He no longer ran in any particular direction. Seeing mid-level zombies ahead, he tried to turn—but low-level zombies were pursuing from behind.
Shivering, Fei Yucheng reached for his gun.
Suddenly, his arm was grabbed.
A surprisingly strong force yanked him backward, sending him sprawling. Struggling to keep his gun, he opened his eyes to see Tu Sanqi’s face.
“Shh,” she whispered, dragging him aside.
The low-level zombies, after failing to find a target, soon wandered off.
Fei Yucheng wasn’t relieved. He stared at Tu Sanqi’s red eyes in disbelief, then instinctively looked at her exposed hands.
No wounds.
“Relax,” Tu Sanqi said calmly, adopting the pre-prepared excuse. “It’s red-eye disease.”
Fei Yucheng: “…Red… red-eye disease?!”
He scrambled up, stunned. Tu Sanqi quickly pinned the “blame” on malnutrition.
Remembering what he had heard before, he had no doubt. “Ah… good, at least she wasn’t bitten!”
He still felt a lingering fear.
Tu Sanqi turned to him, puzzled. “Why did you run out alone?”
Fei Yucheng quickly explained Zhao Rui’s arrangements. “They all went to evacuate the injured and strengthen defenses… I was worried you’d be left without support and in danger.”
Yet it turned out he was the one in danger.
He sighed with a worried frown. “My uncle was right—I really am a burden.”
Tu Sanqi felt a touch of gratitude.
During past escapes, she and several others had fled together, often covering each other.
Now, she was alone.
“No problem,” she composed herself, took out the bullet-making machine from her toolbox, her expression turning serious. “You came just in time.”
Fei Yucheng was stunned. “You’re going to make bullets here?”
Tu Sanqi nodded. “Your uncle and the others won’t be back from S City that quickly. Our current position is perfect for delaying time.”
They were behind the zombie horde.
On the surface, it looked like the encampment was surrounded by zombies… but in reality, they could boldly say they were surrounding the zombie horde!
Fei Yucheng didn’t even have time to be scared. He carefully absorbed her words, then asked, “But who’s going to infuse the abilities?”
Neither of them had powers.
Tu Sanqi tapped her chin, then suddenly turned her gaze toward the mid-level zombies at the far end of the horde.
S City, south side.
“Holy crap! Captain! These things are so useful!” A burly man carrying a machine gun returned, explosions booming behind him.
The brilliant ability flames leaped in his eyes. Mei Jun was equally shocked.
These ability bullets… the effect was astonishingly good!
“How’s Yu Pan’s side?” Mei Jun asked, staring ahead and opening his communicator.
A tremor on his wrist, and Yu Pan’s voice came through amid the explosions: “The left-wing zombie group has been repelled. No signs of regrouping for now.”
“And the rear?”
A low voice responded, “The right side has been repelled too.”
Repelled was enough.
Tonight, they had finally held the line.
Mei Jun pressed his fingers to his brow, then began rearranging the defensive positions. Just as he was about to tally after combat, urgent reports came through the squad channel from Zhao Rui.
“Report, Captain! Low-level zombies infiltrated the encampment! Already dealt with.”
“But a large group of zombies is approaching the rear. Currently transferring injured and supplies. Requesting reinforcements!”
“Report, Captain! Yucheng is missing!”
Three consecutive voice messages made Mei Jun’s expression darken.
Chen Tianlei, carrying a machine gun beside him, immediately volunteered: “Captain! Give me a box of ability bullets, and I’ll go support Old Zhao’s team!”
“There are only three boxes of ability bullets. Each of you three takes one. They’re already all used,” Mei Jun said, face serious as he redeployed personnel.
