I can’t be a vampire
21: No…
I can’t be a vampire Cassie’s POV
My eyes met Kael’s.
He was calm, but I was the opposite anger boiled within me.
Zarea excused us, and Kael walked toward me, sitting on the bed.
His intense gaze landed on my face, but I kept staring at him, not saying a word.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
I didn’t respond.
I was furious that he had chosen to speak to Princess Isolde over me.
What she told me a month ago was beginning to happen gradually she was trying to get Kael.
But should I fight back?
I hadn’t intended to marry Kael at first, but I’ve come too far to turn back now.
“What were you doing with Princess Isolde?” I asked, my voice cold.
Kael tilted his head, a mocking smile playing on his lips.
“Are you jealous?” he questioned, making me laugh in amusement.
I wasn’t in the mood for his mockery , I needed answers.
I stood up, the air around me growing tense.
I could feel it shifting with my anger, surprising me.
Swallowing down my emotions, I looked at Kael.
His face mirrored my shock.
I moved closer, our faces mere inches apart.
“I need answers, not questions,” I whispered, my tone chilling.
“Good,” Kael’s deep voice rumbled.
He leaned in and kissed me.
For a moment, I was tempted to give in, but rage surged through me.
I broke the kiss and bit him, making him moan.
The sight of his bloody lips drew me in, an unfamiliar craving stirring inside me.
Horrified, I fled the room, my mind racing with questions.
Am I a vampire now?
I couldn’t accept that.
Needing fresh air, I rushed to the north side of the royal house and sat by the fountain.
Dipping my hand into the cold water, I found brief solace in its chill.
“You’re more complicated than I thought,” came a familiar voice.
I turned and saw Princess Isolde approaching.
She was dressed beautifully, her ethereal beauty captivating.
Her porcelain skin glowed under the sun, and her piercing green eyes held both quiet intensity and untamed fire. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.
Graceful yet fierce, she moved with effortless elegance, concealing a strength that refused to be tamed.
“You’re the last person I want to talk to right now,” I muttered, turning my gaze back to the water.
Isolde laughed and sat beside me.
I raised my eyes to meet hers, and she gave me the sweetest smile.
“I missed you, though,” she said, still smiling.
I scoffed.
“I love your sense of humor.
I know that wasn’t from your heart.”
“I’m not that evil, Cassie…” she replied, smiling.
“You seem overjoyed. What’s the big news?” I asked, curious about her unusually good mood.
“Well… I’m close to achieving what I came here for,” she said.
I exhaled heavily.
I knew exactly what she meant.
She was after Kael, and my month-long absence had given her more chances to get closer to him.
“Oh, how sweet,” I said, my words dripping with ice.
She chuckled, then raised her hand.
A water orb formed in the air, rolling gracefully between her fingers.
“Flaunting your magical abilities, huh?” I asked.
She smirked and stood up, using her powers to move swiftly.
With a flick of her wrist, she sent droplets of water raining down on me, making my clothes slightly damp.
I glared at her.
“Well, I’ll take that as a compliment,” she said with a smug smile.
Her joy infuriated me.
My absence had benefited her, and now she dared to mock me?
“Get lost!” I snapped.
She laughed.
“What are you going to do, huh?”
I clicked my tongue.
“I’m giving you a chance to leave.
Now.”
“Ooh, I’m so scared,” she mocked, her laughter grating on my nerves.
I felt the air around me shift again.
Standing abruptly, I raised a finger.
“Circumfundat aqua intrinsecus!”
Immediately, water from the fountain surged, pouring down like heavy rain.
But while Princess Isolde stood drenched, my spot remained perfectly dry.
A look of disbelief flashed across her face.
“Powers…?” she whispered.
I smirked.
“You didn’t expect that, did you? Well, I’ll keep surprising you from now on. Expect more.”
She frowned.
I laughed louder, enjoying the sight of her drenched clothes and ruined appearance.
She deserved it.
“Suit yourself,” I said, walking away confidently.
I could feel her glare burning into my back, but I didn’t care.
I was no longer the weak Cassie she once knew.
Returning to my room, I found Kael still there, lost in thought.
“Why are you still here?” I asked, folding my arms across my chest.
He stood up, his face clouded with worry.
He reached out to touch my face, but I slapped his hand away.
“Don’t touch me. Go keep the princess company. She’ll need you right now,” I said, moving to walk past him.
But he grabbed my wrist, pulling me back against his muscular chest.
I could feel the heat radiating from his body.
His gaze was filled with desire, making me smirk.
“What?” I asked, cutting through the tension.
He let out a heavy breath.
“Cassie… I missed you,” he said, his voice raw with sincerity.
I wasn’t ready to believe him.
“So what?” I said, making him bite his lower lip.
“Can we talk?” he asked.
“Sure, I’m listening,” I answered.
He sighed.
“I mean, can we talk like husband and wife?”
“Is there a special way husbands and wives are supposed to talk?” I teased.
“Cassie… stop making things difficult for me. You’re acting cold,” he murmured, leaning in closer.
Before I could stop him, his lips claimed mine.
Then, I tasted it his blood.
The moment his blood touched my tongue, a deep hunger stirred within me.
It was unlike anything I’d ever felt before.
I kissed him back, this time more fiercely, sucking on his bleeding lips.
Then reality hit me.
I shoved him away, horror gripping me.
This can’t be.
I sank to the floor, trembling.
“No… I can’t be a vampire… I don’t want to be…”
The words echoed in my mind as I sobbed.
Kael tried to console me, but I pushed him away, not wanting him anywhere near me.
