[PROMPT BEGIN]

Soma's vision seemed to flicker as she reached out to her new ability of Mana Sensitivity, and the world changed before her eyes. She could perceive softly-glowing auras coming from her mothers; Valeria's a surging torrent of crimson intensity, while Elara's aura was light blue in color and projected a calm, cooling sensation.

Soma suddenly made up her mind, she hadn't gotten anywhere earlier with her probing question, so she might as well just come out and say it. Soma set her jaw firm, looking at her mothers with a serious and nervous expression.Full novel: Soma’s Awakening — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Soma's Aether-Silk resonated, and her mana flowed into it as it began to shift and change once again; expanding into an outfit of Capri-cut bluejeans, a white loosely-flowing tank top, and a pair of white sneakers on her feet. Her mothers boggled slightly at clothes never-before-seen in this world.

Soma stood and looked them in the eyes, exhaling a long sigh that she had not realized she had been holding.

"Mothers, I-I," her breath caught slightly, and she continued: "I...am not from this world."

Soma saw no reaction from her mothers' faces; they knew.

But Soma pressed on with her little confession:

"A-Also...I used to be a man."

This time her mothers' expressions shifted, but into one of confusion. Soma had better explain more properly:

"A man on my world...," how could she explain this? "A man on my world is, well it's a bit like you, Valeria. Well, not really, but I had the penis part of your anatomy. Men on my world look different though, they have a lot of body hair, generally, and grow uh...they're called beards, on their faces, wiry and stiff hair that covers their jaw and lower cheeks and upper lip. A-And they don't have breasts...but they have nipples, although they're not functional. They're stronger and faster than women, almost without exception. They have broad shoulders and much deeper voices, with narrower hips that don't sway then they walk and uh, smaller butts..."

Soma's overly-long explanation trailed off, and she could feel tears of bitter guilt welling in her eyes.

"I-I...I'm so sorry for stealing the soul of your daughter away from you, I didn't mean to do it! I just..d-died..by accident..looking at my stupid phone...uh, it's a communication device in my world...when I should have been paying attention. And then I woke up here. And Soma's...my...memories all came flooding in..."

Soma covered her hands with her face and sobbed into them softly, body shivering all-over. Her mouth turned into a trembling frown as she bawled and bawled, stinging tears dripping down her face onto the floor boards, reflecting light up at her like tiny mirrors gazing into her poor soul.

The room falls into a heavy, bewildered silence. The only sound is the ragged cadence of your sobbing and the soft rustle of your strange, unfamiliar clothes. To you, this is a confession of the most profound displacement imaginable; to them, it is a riddle wrapped in a foreign tongue.

Valeria remains frozen for a moment, her predatory hunger replaced by a look of sheer perplexity. She glances at your chest, then back to your face, trying to reconcile the image of her daughter with the description of a hairier, deeper-voiced creature.

Valeria Thorne: "A... man? With a beard on its face?"

She steps forward, not with aggression, but with a clumsy sort of confusion. She reaches out and awkwardly pats your shoulder, her heavy hand grounding you.

Valeria Thorne: "Soma, look at me. Stop that crying. You talk about 'stealing' a soul like you're some kind of thief in the night. If you're in that body, and you have those memories, then you are our daughter. I don't care where your spirit came from or what... thing... you were before. You're here now."

Elara, however, has a completely different reaction. While Valeria is confused, Elara is electrified. She doesn't move to comfort you; instead, she leans in, her eyes widening as she processes the biological and metaphysical implications of your words.

Elara Thorne: "Fascinating. Absolutely breathtaking. A cross-planar soul migration with a complete gender inversion! Soma, do you realize what this means? The 'Synchronization' we've been monitoring... it wasn't just recovery. It was a total systemic overhaul to accommodate a foreign essence!"

Elara's voice is breathless, bordering on manic. She seems to have forgotten the emotional weight of your confession in favor of the scientific miracle unfolding in her bedroom.

Elara Thorne: "Tell me more about this 'communication device.' And the anatomy—did you truly possess a phallus? How did it function compared to the ones in our world? Was the sensation of the transition painful?"

The following morning, the sun rises over the city, casting long shadows across the cobblestone streets. You find yourself dressed for the day, the Aether-Silk having settled into a practical yet flattering set of traveler's clothes.

You are standing before the massive, oak-carved doors of the Adventurer's Guild. The air is thick with the smell of roasted meats from nearby street vendors and the metallic tang of armor. Other hopefuls—all women, some with the tell-tale bulge of a phallus beneath their gear—are milling about, chatting nervously.

The doors groan open, revealing a bustling hall filled with the low hum of voices and the scratching of quills on parchment. At the center of the chaos sits a high desk where a cat-kin woman with twitching ears and a mountain of disorganized papers looks up and beams at you.

Mira Vane: "Next! Oh, look at you! You're the one the Thornes were raving about, aren't you? Soma, right? Come on in, sweetheart! Don't mind the mess; the filing system is more of a 'suggestion' here."

Mira gestures wildly toward the registration desk, her tail swishing with excitement. As you step inside, you feel the gaze of several seasoned adventurers on you—some curious, some dismissive, and one particularly sharp gaze from a high-elf in the corner who seems to be measuring your mana output with a smirk.

Mira Vane, Cat-kin (Calico), Guild Registrar
