In the upstairs room.
Qin Yu didn’t have time to bicker with Third Uncle. He stepped forward, slammed the butt of his gun against the man’s head twice, and Zhu Wei slapped the handcuffs on him.
“Go, go, hurry up!”
Qin Yu dragged Third Uncle toward the stairs, shouting as he rushed down, “Don’t bother chasing the small fry! Take the targets and leave immediately! Don’t waste a single second!”
By the time he finished shouting, Qin Yu, Zhu Wei, and the others had already dragged Third Uncle out of the storefront. Outside, the pinned Ma Lao’er was acting like a wild animal. He bit Qi Lin’s hand and yelled like a maniac, “Fuck your mothers! Grab your weapons! The Police Department bastards are back!”
As soon as the commotion hit the street, the surrounding drug dealers grabbed their weapons and rushed out again. But Qin Yu had planned for this. Seeing Ma Lao’er open his mouth to shout, he swung both arms wide and struck Ma Lao’er in the mouth with a heavy thud.
“Agh!”
Ma Lao’er rolled on the ground in agony. Turning his head, he spat out two front teeth, his lip split open in a bloody mess.
“Out the side.” Qin Yu cut across the street behind the storefront, waving them on. “Don’t fucking dawdle! Five kilograms of the dirty goods is enough to get them the maximum sentence. What are you carrying the whole boxes for, you idiots?!”
Hearing this, the simple-minded Lao Hei dropped the boxes, grabbed two bags of antiviral drugs, and sprinted into the alley across the street.
On the street, the crowd surged. Dozens of people charged at them with heavy strides.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Qin Yu fired three shots at the crowd, but instead of scattering, they kept charging like madmen and actually returned fire.
“Damn it, these drug dealers don’t care if they live or die.” Pinned at the alley entrance, Qin Yu realized his shots weren’t going to suppress them. He immediately turned and ran.
A dozen seconds later, just as the group pushed through the narrow alley, they heard two piercing screeches of braking tires.
“Get in!” Lao Hei and Xiao Liu had pulled up in two vehicles, throwing the doors open and shouting.
Qin Yu and the others didn’t dare hesitate. They shoved Ma Lao’er, Third Uncle, and two accomplices into the police cars before vaulting into the truck bed in the back.
Police vehicles in the Black Street District came in two models: seven-seater SUVs and five-seater pickups with a truck bed. Sedans were reserved strictly for Bureau Director Li and other high-ranking officials; they were never seen on regular patrols. In this day and age, practicality was everything. There simply weren’t enough resources to go around showing off. But the practical design of the police vehicles worked in their favor—at least there was a truck bed to ride in. Otherwise, there would be no way to squeeze everyone inside.
Vroom!
The moment everyone was aboard, Lao Hei slammed the accelerator to the floor, tearing toward the outskirts of Tu Zha Street at top speed.
Gunfire echoed almost nonstop as the two vehicles sped away. The cars were riddled with holes. Because they were sitting on the outer edges, the two Thai brothers from Group Three both suffered gunshot wounds of varying severity.
“Damn it, don’t hold back! If anyone blocks the road, run them the fuck over!” Qin Yu shouted, crouching low in the truck bed.
Lao Hei didn’t dare lift his head to look out the windshield. Keeping his head below the steering wheel, he jerked the vehicle side to side, plowing through several people before the oncoming crowd finally began to scatter.
The cars roared through the Tu Zha Street area for over a minute before finally breaking clear. Qin Yu looked back at the hundreds of people still chasing them down the street. He wiped the sweat from his face and muttered, “If this place isn’t brought under control, who knows what’s going to happen to Songjiang.”
Smack!
Right as he spoke, Qin Yu heard a sharp slap against the back of his head, followed by a sting of pain.
“Fucking awesome, brother!” Zhu Wei shouted after smacking him. “You’ve got balls! That counterattack was beautifully executed.”
Qin Yu frowned, glancing at the man without saying a word.
…
After 10:00 PM, inside the Police Department office building.
After getting the cut on his hand stitched up in the infirmary, Qin Yu strode directly into the interrogation room.
Ma Lao’er sat slouched on the floor, looking up at Qin Yu with a cocky glare. “You’re in deep shit now. In less than three hours—”
Thud!
Qin Yu raised his boot and stomped down onto Ma Lao’er’s head with simple, brutal force.
“Fuck!”
Ma Lao’er’s head bounced off the wall, and he instantly saw stars.
“Five hundred men aren’t enough, huh?”
Thud!
“You’re the toughest guy on Tu Zha Street, is that it?”
Thud!
“Fuck your mother. Think you’re the boss?”
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Swearing with every strike, Qin Yu viciously kicked Ma Lao’er in the head seven or eight times. The drug dealer slumped to the ground in shock, blood streaming from his nose as his body convulsed.
“Come here, get some cold water. Let’s cool off Brother Ma’s burning passion. Hurry it up,” Qin Yu called back to Lao Hei.
Lao Hei didn’t hesitate. He went to the bathroom and grabbed a bucket of dirty water with ice chips floating in it, splashing the entire thing over Ma Lao’er’s head.
It took less than half a minute for Ma Lao’er’s eyes to regain focus.
Stepping on Ma Lao’er’s calf, Qin Yu bent down and demanded, “You like watching frog jumps, huh?”
Ma Lao’er stared up at Qin Yu in terror, no longer daring to talk tough.
“Kneel!” Qin Yu suddenly roared.
Ma Lao’er flinched, instinctively scrambling backward.
“I said, kneel.” Qin Yu pointed at the floor, his eyes blazing.
Ma Lao’er was stunned. “Don’t… don’t make this too humiliating, alright?” he stammered.
Hearing that, Qin Yu immediately raised his right leg.
Plop!
Before the boot could even connect with his face, Ma Lao’er scrambled up and dropped to his knees.
“Frog jump on your knees. If I’m not satisfied, you don’t stop. Stop once, and I kick you.” Qin Yu grabbed Ma Lao’er by the hair, enunciating every word. “Do you understand?”
Two minutes later, Ma Lao’er gritted his teeth and began hopping around the room on his knees. “A… a wise man knows when to yield… Damn it, I surrender.”
…
Outside the door.
“Working overtime to interrogate them tonight?” Qi Lin asked.
“No need. Get some sleep,” Qin Yu replied, shaking his head. “Let them stew overnight. Tomorrow morning, we interrogate the two small fry to get some evidence. Otherwise, Ma Lao’er and this Third Uncle definitely won’t talk. It’s obvious they’ve been in the game for a long time.”
“Understood.” Qi Lin nodded. “Are you going back to your newly rented place? Need a ride?”
“No, I’m staying here tonight,” Qin Yu said. “I’ll just make do for the night and get to work first thing in the morning.”
“Alright.”
After a brief exchange, Qin Yu turned and walked toward the washroom.
…
Inside an entertainment venue on Black Street.
Yuan Ke answered his phone, his eyes widening in surprise. “Are you serious? Qin Yu led a team into Tu Zha Street to make arrests, and he actually pulled it off? …Heh, the kid really knows how to give me a pleasant surprise.”
