12 – Your Birthday Gift
Chu Ruan didn’t know much about Jin Zhiren, but she still had some impression of him.
She knew Jin Zhiren was Fu Chenxuan’s good friend, and also knew he was a highly skilled doctor.
In her previous life, Fu Chenxuan had asked him to find relevant doctors to treat her illness, but Jin Zhiren was angered by her rebellious and troublesome attitude, declaring he would never help Fu Chenxuan with this matter again.
Because of this, Fu Chenxuan even got into a fight with him, nearly causing a rift between the two men.
A mix of bitterness and relief washed over Chu Ruan’s heart. Thankfully, everything could still be made right—she would absolutely protect everything related to Fu Chenxuan!
Under Jin Zhiren’s cold and annoyed gaze, Chu Ruan gave him a slight, polite smile.
Jin Zhiren froze on the spot. “You… what are you smiling at?”
Fu Chenxuan pushed Jin Zhiren aside discontentedly, then watched as Chu Ruan hurried over, wrapped her arms around his waist, buried her face in his chest with a gentle nuzzle, and looked up at him with dependence and delight.
“You… you’re back.”
Jin Zhiren remained in his pushed-aside posture, staring dumbfounded at the man and woman before him.
He doubted his own eyes.
“You… are you Chu Yunruan? No, you’re Chu Lanyan, right?!” Jin Zhiren exclaimed in disbelief.
Then Fu Chenxuan, with a cold expression, delivered a sharp kick to his backside, sending him sprawling to the floor with a pained cry.
Chu Ruan chuckled softly, her enchanting eyes curving with amusement.
“Are you hungry? Let’s go eat,” Fu Chenxuan said tenderly, wrapping his arm around Chu Ruan as they headed toward the dining room.
Rubbing his sore backside, Jin Zhiren glared at the man who showed two completely different faces—one toward him and another toward Chu Ruan—and gritted his teeth in fury. “Fu Chenxuan! Just you wait!”
The maid brought in the flowers and gifts from Fu Chenxuan’s car. When Chu Ruan saw them, she blinked her eyes and looked at Fu Chenxuan with pleasant surprise.
The tall, handsome man wore little expression on his face, but his eyes held deep affection. “It’s your birthday, and I haven’t given you my gift yet.”
As he spoke, Fu Chenxuan took out a velvet box from his pocket and opened it to reveal a ring.
The ring had a unique design, crafted like a pendant, with concentric circles slightly overlapping and set with a dazzling padparadscha sapphire.
Although called a padparadscha sapphire, its color was a blend of pink and orange, exuding a girlish charm. It was an aristocratic gem, extremely rare.
The one Fu Chenxuan bought had more pink than orange, even more delicate and beautiful than a red lotus in early summer.
Any woman who saw it would be driven wild with desire.
But Chu Ruan only glanced at it before shifting her gaze away. Her misty eyes blinked, and in that moment under the light, even the gem’s brilliance seemed to dim rapidly.
Fu Chenxuan nearly lost himself in those eyes.
“Do you… want it?” The man parted his thin lips, his voice low.
Seeing his calm expression, as if he were merely handing her a piece of paper, Chu Ruan beamed brightly. “Yes!”
Fu Chenxuan casually took out the necklace without saying much more, motioned for Chu Ruan to come closer, and bent his head to fasten it around the girl’s neck.
But only he knew how agonizingly long that one second of waiting for Chu Ruan’s answer had been.
His heart had nearly stopped, fearing that Chu Ruan would reject his affection once again, worrying that her obedience and sweetness were merely fleeting.
That was more painful than death itself.
If he had never known the taste of the girl’s love, he might have been able to convince himself that this was enough—that simply being by her side was sufficient. But that day, after the girl took the initiative to kiss him, Fu Chenxuan could no longer restrain himself like this.
This treasure must be his—from the inside out, from heart to body!
