9 – Sister Is Different Today
Chu Ruan actually didn’t have much to take with her—Fu Chenxuan would buy her everything she wanted.
Moreover, she felt no attachment whatsoever to this place.
Her purpose in coming this time was to draw Chu Lanyan into her scheme—a carefully laid trap designed to gradually repay every bit of suffering inflicted upon her in her previous life.
“Oh, by the way, little sister…” Chu Ruan turned to Chu Lanyan, her lips curving into a smile while her eyes concealed beacon fire. “Chenxuan told me his company is recruiting young models. Would you like to give it a try?”
“I heard they’ve invited that fashion designer from Country G you adore so much—what’s his name again…”
“You can’t possibly mean Saint Laurent?! Oh my god!” Chu Lanyan had already shrieked in excitement.
Chu Ruan smiled faintly. “That’s the one. Haven’t you always been his biggest fan?”
“Really?! I’ll go! I absolutely must go!” Chu Lanyan was delirious with joy.
Meng Yanfei, however, thought to ask, “Yunruan, how did you know about this?”
Could it be that Fu Chenxuan was already sharing work matters with Yunruan?
But how could that be? Had Yunruan finally come to her senses and learned how to please Fu Chenxuan?
In their previous life, Meng Yanfei remained completely unaware of all the ways Chu Lanyan had secretly driven a wedge between Chu Yunruan and others. She always believed Chu Ruan herself didn’t want to get along with Fu Chenxuan.
“I saw the posters and books in little sister’s room, and I happened to overhear Chenxuan mention it once at home,” Chu Ruan explained unhurriedly.
This was indeed the truth—otherwise she genuinely wouldn’t have known these details.
She didn’t even know who Saint Laurent was.
The information she possessed about Chu Lanyan was severely limited. To exact her revenge, she needed to remain under the same roof as Chu Lanyan.
But she would absolutely never return to live in the Chu residence, so…
She would attend Chu Lanyan’s school instead.
A dark glint flashed through Chu Ruan’s eyes as she watched Chu Lanyan chattering excitedly with Meng Yanfei, her gaze gradually deepening.
Go ahead, Chu Lanyan. When you return, you’ll discover the world has turned upside down.
Having delivered her message, Chu Ruan went upstairs to symbolically pack a few belongings. Her eyes drifted toward the ceiling, where she directed a cold smile at a discarded surveillance camera.
During her years in the Chu household, she had lived under constant surveillance day and night.
When Chu Lanyan needed the heart exchange, she wasn’t even allowed to leave her room.
She had questioned this confinement, only to be told she was ill and couldn’t go out until she recovered.
So despite her suspicions about the doctors who came for regular checkups, she obediently complied.
Chu Ruan took a deep breath, suppressing her emotions as she quickly descended the stairs. Facing Chu Lanyan and Meng Yanfei, she declared, “One more thing.”
“I’ve changed my name. From now on, I’m not Chu Yunruan anymore—I’m Chu Ruan. Don’t forget.”
Chu Lanyan was momentarily startled but ultimately indifferent.
She never wanted Chu Ruan to share the character “Lan” from her name—it would immediately reveal they were sisters, which was why she had Meng Yanfei rename her Chu Yunruan in the first place.
After speaking, Chu Ruan turned to Nan Qing. “Let’s go.”
Nan Qing had remained silent and upright throughout the entire encounter. He nodded upon hearing her words and opened the door for her.
Before departing, Chu Ruan’s gaze swept across the two figures in the living room, her lips curved in an icy, merciless arc. Then she swiftly exited the villa.
Chu Lanyan frowned. “Mom, did you see that look she gave us?”
“Has she grown too proud to acknowledge her own family just because she married into wealth?””Your sister isn’t that kind of person, but I must say she’s doing quite well. Did you see that diamond necklace around her neck? Such a large and exquisite stone – it must have cost a fortune!” Meng Yanfei clicked her tongue in amazement.
