"A member of Class C!?" About one or more student quickly rose to their feet in disbelief, the rest of the class fell silent, equally stunned.
"Huh."
"Look alive kid." Mr Jin laughed softly, then grinned almost immediately. "You aren’t in South Harvard academy anymore, welcome to the Evolvers academy."
"The Evolvers academy?" Michael raised a brow.
"A special academy dedicated to training and nurturing young people like yourself into Evolvers that one day will be strong enough to conquer the abyss and save humanity, this is where you will learn to develop your origin."
"Ahem, Mr Jin." Vance cleared his throat. "I don’t mean to question your judgement, but it is not wise to enroll anyone at this stage, he didn’t take the entrance exam, and the first trial is only weeks away, surely not even the 12 Orders will approve of this."
"Vance." Mr. Jin stepped forward and placed a hand on Vance’s shoulder, then he leaned closer to his ear and whispered. "Normally I would never consent to this, but this kid is different from the rest of the Evolvers."
Mr. Jin’s eyes traced to Michael, watching him closely from where he stood. Then he leaned back to Vance and whispered something into his ear.
The next moment, Vance’s eyes shot wide open in shock, then he immediately regained his composure and let out a soft sigh. "I understand."
"Then it’s settled." Mr. Jin walked toward the door, then glanced back over his shoulder at Michael. "Try not to attract any trouble kid." Then he shut the door behind him.
"Now that we are all in class, why don’t you introduce yourself." Vance said with crossed arms.
"If you insist." Michael stood in the front of the room, then cleared his throat and said with a low but audible voice. "I am Michael, I’ll be studying with you all."
He introduced himself with all the respect he could muster. But the stares alnd envious glares he received in return were anything but welcoming.
"Alright, take your seat in the empty chair at the back."
Michael nodded in response before walking all the way to the back of the class. As he passed the students, he could feel their envious glares and annoyed stares following him.
They didn’t even bother to hide it, not one bit.
"For Mr Jin to personally escort him here, and past the middle of the semester at that..."
"Who the hell is this guy?"
Even their whispers were anything but whispers. This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.
’They hold Mr Jin in such high regards, is he really a man of such high status here?’ Michael thought as he took his seat.
"Alright, now that we are all aquatinted, and the results of your previous evaluations are out, I’ll go straight to the point."
Vance’s expression turned pale, his eyes gleamed with no emotions and all trace of his smile vanished. Even the tone of his voice got even darker as he laid out the truth.
"You are all scum."
His sudden change surprised them, they felt the piercing intensity of his gaze, scared out of their wits.
"To be placed in class C is one thing, but to horribly fail your evaluation is nothing but a disgrace. And you all think you have what it takes to conquer the trials of the Abyss? How ignorant!" He slammed his hands into the table, displeased.
No one was more confused than Michael, especially since he was new.
"Listen carefully, there are three classes that exists in this academy, Class A, B and C. You are class C, a bunch of kids with less impressive Origins and abilities compared to Class A and B. This evaluation is your chance to change that, and you think that will happen with this kind of results?"
The rest of the students looked down, their faces filled with guilt and sadness. Vance wasn’t usually like this, but after all the effort he had put in this semester and the results they had to show for it, it was unacceptable, completely unacceptable.
"The academy has provided one last appraisal for you, so this time to ensure you don’t mess it up again, I have doubled your training sessions, and your cultivation methods, I will not accept failure this time, so I advise you take it seriously."
Vance let out a soft sigh after venting all his frustrations, then he adjusted his shirt. "Now let’s get into the business for the day, change into your training gear and meet me in the academy’s courtyard."
With his final words to the class, Vance left the classroom and headed straight to the courtyard, where he would await the students.
As soon as the doors closed behind him, murmurs quickly filled the classroom. The students kept glancing at Michael, some with curiosity while others looked at him with envy.
But in truth, he couldn’t care less. It had been merely half a day since his best friend die and hadn’t yet gotten over it, but now he had one, single goal.
"Hmph, you’re all unbearable."
A student — Silva, who had his collar straightened, chuckled as he referred to the others. They refused to associate with him simply because they were jealous that he had gotten the opportunity to meet their idol while they simply just watched. Read the latest chapters at g.com.
Silva stood up and approached Michael, who simply stared coldly at him.
"You don’t need to be suspicious, I won’t bite, I’m Silva. I look forward to working with you from now on." He smiled and extended his hand.
Michael studied him for a moment, wondering if he had some ulterior motive. But judging by his attitude, it seemed like that was simply just who he was.
"Likewise." Michael replied as he shook his hand.
"That’s a firm grip you’ve got there, strong and determined." Silva smiled, feeling the strength that came from years of hard work and consistency. "Now I really look forward to working with you."
"W—Whoa!"
"Is that!?"
"Hm?" The commotion in the classroom drew both Michael and Silva’s attention towards the door.
And there she was.
Standing by the doorway with one hand resting against her waist was a striking red-haired girl. Her long red hair framed her face, while her large blue eyes sparkled brightly beneath her neatly styled brows. She wore the same school uniform as the other students, though she carried herself with a confidence that immediately caught their attention.
"Princess Rias!?"
’Princess Rias?’Micheal thought, and his eyes narrowed for a moment, then returned back to normal as he finally remembered where he had heard that name.
Princess Rias was first born child of King Richard, and the crowned princess of the Silvercrest Kingdom.
Not only that, but she was a prodigy in every sense, and now, she was a student of Class A.
Luckily, she wasn’t from the Dreyar family, so his hatred and anger didn’t apply to her.
But despite the noise around her, her icy blue eyes remained fixed on only one person.
Michael.
