They had spent more than a week in the true outlands.
Neo had gotten used to the team, and it had indeed been a pleasant experience.
“Neo, so how are you enjoying this arrangement.
Have you decided to join our team?” Sofia asked.
This was a question she asked almost every few days.
“I will still hold off on answering that question.” Neo gave his usual reply.
“If you don’t join us, who will I practice my throwing daggers with?” She stared into his eyes, and blinked softly.
There was that too.
Neo had gotten bored one time, and decided she could throw daggers at him.
She threw her daggers, and he either dodged or deflected them with his sword.
He had also given her some pointers.
“There is only as much mastery one can gain from a spar.” Neo told her.
“Really?
How are you even that good with daggers?”
“Practice.” Neo gave what he thought was the best and honest answer.
“See!” She was excited.
“Practice!
Even you got that good with practice.”
Neo was exasperated.
“Alright.
Everyone let’s move.
One last mission, and we are out of here.”
Mia gave the orders.
Neo felt relieved as they got into formation.
Now, it was impossible for Sofia to pester him.
They had been on the move for a while now, and they had not encountered any demon.
In itself that wasn’t too strange.
However, considering how frequently they had been encountering demons.
It was worth being bothered.
As they moved on, their surroundings had been going through a subtle change.
From tall grasslands, it had become hard to find anything growing.
Now, in front of them was a place where all sorts of massive rocks jutted out of the ground.
Different pools of what looked to be lava flowed everywhere.
It was quite the shocking sight that made no sense.
If they had slowly walked into a desert, it might have been understandable.
But this made absolutely no sense.
In the true outlands, that could mean really dangerous or an opportunity.
Although, in most cases they meant the same thing.
Opportunities were never easy to grab.
Everyone stopped.
The strange sight was enough to bewilder them and make them consider leaving the true outlands for now.
This place was getting more strange by the moment.
Mia was observing the strange sight before them.
She seemed very intent on it.
“Boss, this place doesn’t look so good.” Derek was the first to speak.
One could hear the plea in his voice.
“Team leader, we have to consider well before going forward.
No matter how great an opportunity it might be, strange things in the true outlands are best left alone.” Lancelot spoke up.
He felt he might as well be the voice of reason.
“This might be beyond us, Sister Mia.” Sofia also seem to not want to go inside.
“I haven’t said anything yet.
Why are you all so jumpy.” Mia was annoyed.
They kept quiet.
She turned to Neo who hadn’t said anything.
“What do you think?”
Neo gave her a look that seem to say, me?
“I think I am the last person you should be asking this.” Neo said.
He had read about something like this in the book given to him when he joined the Adventurer Guild.
If he was alone, he might have been curious enough to go in and check the place out.
He was in a team now, however, and he wasn’t the one calling the shots.
Mia knew this was left to her.
She had a burning curiosity to know what this place might hold, but she wasn’t about to risk everyone’s life.
Places like this might hold unique opportunities.
No one knew for sure what could form here.
But it could also mean certain death.
This showed the chaotic nature of the true outlands.
“Although, it is a shame to not even look around.
Let’s leave.” Mia was firm with her decision.
Places like this didn’t necessarily follow the rules of equal cultivation.
Although, it wouldn’t be so ridiculous that it would surpass their rank.
It might very well be above their essence cultivation.
She turned away, and everyone followed her with no hesitation.
Then the strangest thing happened.
A vortex appeared from the direction of the strange place.
It was indiscriminate as it sucked in everything deep into itself.
The team wasn’t spared.
They were drawn in.
The silver lining was that they were not far from each other when they landed.
They regrouped quickly.
This place had gotten even stranger.
Their surroundings had changed from the strange rocks and pools of flowing lava into a forest.
The ground was wet and muddy.
The vortex had been strong, but strangely they hadn’t lost any of their luggage.
Their gears and mission items were still with them.
Lancelot sighed.
“We might as well have gone in.”
This situation was something they have never heard of before.
“I don’t like this place,” Sofia said.
The forest was gloomy.
“Everyone, bring out your Adventurer Card.
Let’s leave,” Mia said.
She hoped that this would go smoothly.
“It’s not working.” Derek said something they had all figured out by now.
There were cases like this.
Some special cases where the connection between the supreme formation of the Immortal World and the true outlands was blocked.
The portals that brought them into the true outlands, the Adventurer Card that they used to communicate their need to return.
All this interaction was managed by the supreme formation of the Immortal World.
When they got no response from the formation, they knew something was seriously wrong.
“Boss, where do we go now?” Derek asked.
Every direction was filled with tall trees that covered everything.
There was barely any light.
They could still see, but it was barely beyond a few meters.
Mia looked around, there was nothing to tell where was better.
She could only chose a direction at random and hope for the best.
“Let’s go that way.”
Everyone followed her lead.
