Lin Yuzhi still prepared for the worst; if rescue never arrived, they would have no choice but to leave the hospital.

However, he hadn’t yet figured out how they would get out. After all, the hospital was crawling with zombies. While they had been lucky enough not to encounter any on the stairs when they first arrived, after so much time had passed, it was impossible to be certain if the path was still clear.

He aimed the car key toward the ground below and pressed the buttons, but not a single vehicle responded. Perhaps the distance was simply too great.Full novel: Starting Today, Study Hard [Apocalypse] — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He had no choice but to put the key back into his backpack; it might be useful later.

Xu An noticed his dejection. “Nothing?”

Lin Yuzhi nodded. “It might just be too far. Academic God, do you think rescue will really come?”

Xu An couldn’t say for sure. This virus was more severe than imagined; it was possible that even the military had been compromised. If that were the case, rescue would indeed be extremely difficult—or at least, it wouldn’t happen anytime soon.

Ultimately, he simply shook his head and said nothing.

Lin Yuzhi didn’t ask further. He sat on the floor and ate biscuits.

Xu An handed him the paper he had just prepared. “I wrote out the logic for solving the problems on it. Take a look at those first. Your foundation is currently too weak, so the problems I give you from now on will go from simple to difficult. We’ll start with the basics.”

“Will there be enough time?” Lin Yuzhi looked at him.

This left Xu An puzzled. Enough time for what?

Lin Yuzhi snapped back to reality. Only he knew about the Scholar System, and only he knew about the upcoming requirements for his “exams.”

He had originally hoped that with an “Academic God” helping him, he could transform into a scholar instantly. But looking at it now, he had been overthinking things; it wasn’t that easy to become a top student. He shook his head and began reviewing the paper Xu An had given him, earnestly correcting his mistakes.

Xu An’s explanations were extremely detailed, breaking down every step. Even so, there was still much that Lin Yuzhi didn’t understand; those concepts simply weren’t in his head yet.

Xu An was aware of this, so he felt it was necessary to create a new set of notes for him. Although years had passed, he could still recall the knowledge he had recorded back then.

While watching Lin Yuzhi, he reworked the problems from the previous papers, writing out the process for every single one. For some, he even included alternative solutions. Problems were versatile, but the core logic remained the same.

As night fell, Lin Yuzhi finally managed to finish correcting the problems Xu An had set. He handed them back to Xu An.

Xu An glanced over them and then handed him a new paper. “I just put this together. The question types are identical to the ones you just corrected. Give it a try and see if you can apply what you’ve learned. If you get stuck, you can ask me.”

“Oh,” Lin Yuzhi nodded, taking the paper to look through it once more.

He didn’t resist. After all, every paper he finished earned him ten points; either way, it was a gain for him. At the same time, he felt that Xu An’s brain was truly impressive—he could not only solve problems but also create so many of them on the fly.

Perhaps because he had just done similar problems, even though writing was still difficult, he could now manage to complete one or two steps.

Just as he was about to take the paper to ask Xu An a question, his phone lit up with a notification.

It was a message from the Scholar Leaderboard. Lin Yuzhi quickly picked up his phone and opened it.

The screen immediately jumped to a square panel within the Scholar Leaderboard app, displaying a block of text:
