After two days of shooting practice, Pei Ye planned to take them out to test their skills and collect some supplies along the way.
Cen Mo called Song Yu, and Song Yu brought Lin Yitang along.
Lin Yitang understood the seriousness of the situation. She urgently needed to regain favor in front of Pei Ye and the others. Upon seeing Cen Mo and Gu Feng, she bowed deeply and apologized, lowering herself completely.
“Sorry, Gu Feng, Cen Mo. For the harm I’ve caused you, I’m willing to make it up with my life.”
Wen Yu had no interest in watching their act and tugged Pei Ye to move ahead.
They drove Pei Ye’s big G-class car. Only after it started did Cen Mo and Gu Feng open the car doors and get in.
Song Yu and Lin Yitang took other vehicles.
Wen Yu glanced at Pei Ye’s car—it was probably still his, a gesture of consideration for his brotherly bond with Cen Mo over the years.
She smirked and didn’t make an issue of it.
After all, in the novel, this was a super-strong team that survived all the way to the apocalypse. With the “plot correction” buff, there was nothing she could do. Ensuring Lin Yitang didn’t stay at her villa to irritate people was already pushing the limits.
Once everyone was seated, Pei Ye floored the accelerator.
Wen Yu sat in the passenger seat, pulling out a rice ball to eat.
She munched while asking, “Where are we headed today?”
She had been sleeping while the team planned earlier and was still hungry when Pei Ye called them to depart.
Seeing Wen Yu gnawing on a nutritionally light rice ball early in the morning, Pei Ye frowned. He decided to make her better meals for the space once they returned to the villa.
“Wholesale market. We need to get some solar panels.”
Wen Yu understood—Pei Ye wanted to restore power to the villa first.
Electricity was good, so she didn’t ask further and pulled out a sandwich to eat.
The enclosed space was filled only with Wen Yu’s chewing and the faint aroma of food, making the two in the back suddenly hungry.
Gu Feng, being shameless, reached forward for a bite.
Wen Yu chuckled and asked what he wanted.
“Whatever you give, I’ll take it.”
Wen Yu thought for a moment, then took out several large white buns, a bottle of beef paste, and some cleaned lettuce so they could make Chinese-style burgers.
Though they had risen in social standing since the orphanage, they were still familiar with commoner food, unlike the pampered sons of wealthy families.
Gu Feng tore open a bun, added lettuce, and scooped a large spoonful of beef paste.
Feeling something was missing, he asked Wen Yu, “Do you have any spicy strips?”
“Of course.” Wen Yu pulled out five packs, each a different flavor.
Gu Feng happily laid a strip over the beef paste, added another lettuce leaf on top, and bit in deeply.
The rich flavor made him shake his head in contentment.
Wen Yu saw his blissful expression in the rearview mirror, was tempted by the spicy aroma, and grabbed a bun for herself.
The red oil from the spicy strip ran all over her hands, but it was delicious—much more flavorful than plain rice balls or sandwiches.
Having already eaten halfway full earlier, she couldn’t finish the whole bun, so she had Pei Ye hold it for her.
By the time she wiped her hands and packed the remaining half, Pei Ye had already eaten it.
She gave him a look, and Pei Ye asked what was wrong.
She tossed the tissue into the space and said, “I was just checking if you had enough. If not, I’d give you another.”
“No need. We already had breakfast.”
Gu Feng and Cen Mo were just greedy—they couldn’t have eaten more anyway.
Wen Yu nodded and handed out some sparkling water. Pei Ye eating her leftover food was now a closed matter.
Gu Feng and Cen Mo glanced at Pei Ye in the driver’s seat with meaning.
A sip of cold sparkling water, and everyone finally appreciated the charm of space-preserved food.
The buns were warm, the water ice-cold—invincible in this summer, especially with the power out.
The road ahead had no zombies. Gu Feng relaxed and joked with Wen Yu:
“Little sis, your space is unbeatable. We’re lucky to have you.”
Hehe, she had even more unbeatable things, but she didn’t say.
Leaning back in the seat with crossed legs, Wen Yu felt proud, discreetly taking a health-boosting pill from her rebirth package.
The pill melted instantly, colorless and tasteless, leaving no immediate effect.
But she knew her physical condition had improved compared to before.
Pei Ye also took a pill, soon triggering his ability awakening. He credited the improvement to his powers, unaware of the real cause.
Smiling mysteriously like a mischievous little cat, Wen Yu thought:
“Since this luck is given to you all, cherish it—don’t wait until it’s lost to regret it.”
Wen Yu was just being tsundere.
But Gu Feng and Cen Mo sensed another meaning: don’t stand on the wrong side. Like Song Yu—stuck with a scheming girl, missing warm buns and cold sparkling water.
They eagerly pledged, generously filling each other’s plates.
“Of course. Eyes sharp, hearts bright.”
“Don’t be fooled by our rough looks—we’re tea experts.”
“Rest assured, we’ll cherish it properly.”
…Something felt slightly off.
Wen Yu scratched her head. The car entered the city, encountering the first wave of zombies, leaving no time to ponder.
Pei Ye drove forward recklessly, ramming some zombies to temporarily incapacitate them, then began deployment.
“Gu Feng, Cen Mo, headshots first. Abilities assist.”
“Wen Yu, stay in the car. Use the space if there’s danger.”
Wen Yu agreed but planned to ignore him anyway.
Once the three jumped out into battle, she cracked the window slightly, testing her shooting results on lone zombies.
Bang bang.
Results were disappointing—half the bullets were blanks, the rest couldn’t kill the zombies.
Frustrated, her gaze fell on Lin Yitang and Song Yu.
Song Yu only got one gun, now held by Lin Yitang. Probably inexperienced, she cradled it to her chest, pointing at her own jaw, sometimes jerking her neck. Wen Yu worried it might accidentally fire, so she stepped aside.
But the heroine wouldn’t go offline so early, so Wen Yu glanced once and returned to her own task.
Pei Ye’s team progressed smoothly.
Over twenty zombies were dealt with in minutes.
Just as they prepared to head back, Wen Yu came down, pointing at a zombie she had secretly shot in the head with the ion gun:
“Pei Ye, look at this thing.”
It was a slightly cloudy, diamond-shaped crystal.
Pei Ye crouched to inspect it. Wen Yu explained, “It came from the zombie’s head. Do you think it might be useful?”
The novel called it a Crystal Core, used to enhance abilities.
She couldn’t say it outright, only guiding Pei Ye to discover it himself.
He was smart but hadn’t pieced it together yet. Lin Yitang, who had been hiding behind Song Yu, jumped out shouting:
“Brother Pei, this is a Crystal Core! It can enhance abilities!”
