The crop harvest notifications continued to scroll, and the game forum was still filled with complaints and curses.
Players whose crops had been stolen were going wild. The most alarming was a player claiming to be a network engineer, shouting on the forum that he would crawl along the internet cable to find the thief and chop them to death.
At this point, the conflict of interests intensified by “Farm Game” had already become quite severe.
From the active posts on the forum, it was clear that the number of players in “Farm Game” had surged dramatically.
When they had first entered the forum, there had only been a few scattered posts, with barely any replies.
Now, a single scroll revealed all kinds of hysterical posts. It was not hard to imagine that if these people were released outside, they would be ready to start street fights.
After harvesting the peas and sunflowers at 3:30 p.m. and planting a new batch of crops, a pop up appeared on the game interface.
[Dear player, congratulations, your experience points have reached 90. Continue completing tasks to receive more rewards]
Chen Jianwei tapped the pop up and saw a new [Game Tasks] indicator appear in the toolbar.
Player Daily Tasks:
1. Plant seeds +2
2. Harvest crops +2
3. Harvest crops from other farms +4
(More updates pending…)
They were not surprised that this game was only partially completed.
After all, zombies had appeared suddenly, and players were randomly pulled in.
It made sense that the game had launched midway.
However, harvesting crops from other farms, in other words stealing crops, actually granted double the experience of harvesting one’s own crops. This was practically encouraging players to steal from each other and fight.
They only wanted to guard their own small plot of land, as long as no one came to provoke them.
Because the complaints on the forum were too unsettling, Duan Minmin suggested whether they should use the [Grudge Ledger].
The [Grudge Ledger] lasted for 24 hours. If they used it now, it would remain active until the next evening.
It would also allow them to see what exactly the [Grudge Ledger] could record.
“I think we can activate the [Grudge Ledger] tonight at ten. By tomorrow night at ten, we should have harvested at least three rounds, and then we can see which troublemakers end up on our list,” Ying Ran said, eager to try.
Based on their past gaming experience, something like the [Grudge Ledger] would likely record players who stole crops or caused harm to their farm.
Although Ying Ran was looking forward to it, she still did not want the crops they had carefully timed to be stolen.
Looking at the player information page, it showed: Remaining points: 16
Duan Minmin excitedly counted on her fingers. “Once we accumulate more points, let’s have a proper meal, okay?” As a food lover, she had casually browsed the trading section in the [Market] and her eyes lit up.
The others, who also loved food, felt tempted as well.
During their first semester of freshman year, they had still been somewhat restrained.
Later, after becoming familiar with dorm regulations, they gradually became more relaxed, adding all kinds of cookware to the dorm. Last semester, they had almost made hotpot in the dorm once a week on average.
Fortunately, because of their past indulgence, they were not lacking anything in the dorm for now.
Chen Jianwei tried to set a short term goal. “How about this, when we reach 100 points, we treat ourselves. What do you think?”
“Wouldn’t 100 points take too long?” Luo Mushi hesitated.
They had worked hard all day and even received the [Bountiful Harvest Gift Pack], yet they only had 16 points.
Reaching 100 points would take a very long time.
However, Ying Ran agreed more with Chen Jianwei’s idea.
They had to ensure they kept a certain amount of points as a reserve before spending freely.
With 100 points, based on the market prices, they could buy 20 packs of instant noodles.
Once they had enough points, they could consider buying whatever they wanted.
In a natural disaster apocalypse, everything was uncertain, and all risks could be infinitely amplified.
By around five o’clock, the sky outside had already darkened early.
They used the remaining four bowls of rice from noon to make egg fried rice for dinner, and after eating, they took turns showering as usual.
After night fell, the temperature felt even lower. They turned on the electric blanket, placed seat cushions on top of it, and sat around the low table.
Ying Ran went to shower, while the other three played Dou Dizhu to pass the time.
Luo Mushi was the least skilled at card games. After two rounds, she was completely defeated by Duan Minmin.
When Ying Ran came out of the shower, Luo Mushi suggested playing Aeroplane Chess instead.
Even though rolling dice in Aeroplane Chess also depended on luck, it was still better than being crushed by Duan Minmin.
Chen Jianwei chose yellow pieces, Duan Minmin chose green, while Luo Mushi and Ying Ran chose blue and pink. They placed the board on the table and began rolling the dice in turns.
Ying Ran boiled a pot of red date, goji berry, and longan tea, placing the cup of brown tea beside her and taking occasional sips.
She had just started her period, so she had placed two heat packs on her clothing and drank the tea, which made her lower abdomen feel warm.
She used to suffer from severe menstrual cramps, but now she only felt slight soreness in her lower back, which was manageable.
After thinking for a moment, Ying Ran placed a pillow behind her waist and leaned comfortably against the cushion.
After two rounds of dice rolls, Luo Mushi finally rolled a “6.”
She was so excited she almost shouted, then quickly covered her mouth, looking as if she might cry from joy. “Oh my god, I am finally not unlucky anymore.”
She happily placed a blue piece at the starting point.
Rolling a “6” allowed another roll, so she rolled again and got a “4,” moving her piece forward four spaces.
Meanwhile, Ying Ran, Chen Jianwei, and Duan Minmin all failed to roll a “6” for two consecutive rounds, watching as Luo Mushi’s piece had already moved more than halfway across the board.
On Chen Jianwei’s fifth roll, she finally got a “6.”
The yellow piece took off.
When Chen Jianwei rolled again, Luo Mushi clasped her hands together and muttered repeatedly, “Not a 4, not a 4, not a 4…”
Her blue piece was currently right in front of Chen Jianwei’s starting point.
Ying Ran watched with amusement, taking another sip of her tea.
Chen Jianwei gently shook the dice in her hand and rolled it onto the board.
Seeing the “4” on the dice, Duan Minmin laughed the loudest, while Luo Mushi looked devastated as she watched her blue piece get captured and sent back to the starting area.
Her lucky streak had ended.
Luo Mushi flailed dramatically. “Ahhh! My poor little blue!”
After a few more rounds, Duan Minmin and Ying Ran also launched their pieces, and eventually Luo Mushi’s blue piece took off again.
Aeroplane Chess was a great social game. Their attention was fully focused on the board, worried about their own pieces being captured while trying to capture others.
By the time they finished a round, it was almost 10 p.m. They logged back into “Farm Game” and activated the [Grudge Ledger] as planned.
The [Grudge Ledger] would last for 24 hours, until 10 p.m. the next day.
In half an hour, it would be time for the next harvest. They left the game interface floating in front of them, waiting for the alarm to go off before opening the [Harvest] tool.
Chen Jianwei opened the group chat to check unread messages.
Since the school announcement about suspended classes yesterday morning, the class group and dorm group chats had been updating at a rate of over 99 messages per minute. If they stopped checking even briefly, it became impossible to scroll back.
As she scrolled up, she saw a message.
Someone was sick.
With the sudden drop in temperature these past few days, it was easy to catch a cold.
Seasonal illness was common, but in this situation, getting sick could be life threatening.
[402 Feng Wei: Does anyone have fever medicine? My roommate has a fever]
[402 Feng Wei: We can exchange food [image]]
Feng Wei was clever. At a time like this, supplies were the most scarce resource, so she offered to trade materials for fever medicine in the group chat.
However, medical resources were even more valuable than food.
Feng Wei posted photos of everything their dorm could offer for trade, letting others choose what they wanted.
But the group chat was filled with suggestions on how to reduce a fever, while no one was willing to trade.
Room 618 had three boxes of ibuprofen sustained release capsules, which were effective fever medicine.
But they had no relationship with Room 402, they were neither classmates nor close acquaintances. There was no need to act self sacrificial.
Moreover, judging from last night’s situation, if something happened in the dorm building, the school could arrange a vehicle to take students out for treatment. The girl from Room 619 had been taken away like that.
Throughout the day, there had been no new developments regarding zombies, and no new reports of sightings on campus.
That counted as half good news.
Perhaps the zombies had wandered around campus, found no visible people, and left to search for food elsewhere.
But they still did not dare move freely within the school.
Once zombies appeared in the world, danger would not disappear until they were completely eradicated.
Scrolling further, she saw Feng Wei tagging Auntie Lian, saying her roommate’s fever had reached 38.4°C and asking if there was any way to deliver medicine.
A prolonged fever could kill, or at least cause brain damage.
After a while, Auntie Lian replied that she had reported the situation to the school and told them to wait for further notice.
She also updated a notice in the group chat, reminding everyone to keep warm during the seasonal change to prevent catching colds and fevers.
