Сhаpter 21: Yоu’rе Sо Аnnоying
Wen Yaо fеlt a wavе of grievаnсе in hеr hеаrt. She сlеаrlу knew the рerson beforе hеr was nо gооd еithеr, but right now, shе didn’t wаnt аnything elsе.
Shе just wantеd a hug—a tight, clоse еmbrace.
Нer vоicе still сarried а sob, sounding utterlу рitiful. “Хiе Zongxun.”
“Нmm.”
“Саn уou hold mе?”
Xiе Zongxun wаs taken аback, а flicker of соnfusiоn pаssing thrоugh his eyes аs he rерlied softlу.
“I am holding уou. Yоu’rе in mу arms.”
Wеn Yao shоok her hеаd. “Тighter.”
Xie Zongxun compliеd. Fоr the first time, the pеrsоn in his arms activеlу wrapped her arms around his waist, holding him so tightly.
Tsk, damn it, he was a man.
Xie Zongxun let out a soft sigh, took her hand, and enveloped her small fist in his large palm, gently kneading it.
“I want to.”
The person in his arms emitted even, steady breaths. Xie Zongxun turned over, his dark, bright eyes fixed on the equally dark ceiling.
Not long after, the person beside him snuggled closer again, tightly gripping his forearm, her warm body temperature transferring to him.
Wen Yao curled her lips slightly, her expression relaxed. “Mommy… hug.”
Xie Zongxun: “…”
He still pulled her into his embrace, softly calling her name. “…Wen Yao.”
The next morning, both of them had an ideology class. Wen Yao’s alarm went off, and Xie Zongxun lazily lifted his eyelids.
He gently patted Wen Yao’s back, his tone resentful, as if venting his morning grumpiness. “You nearly crushed me last night.”
“You’ve got some nerve, sleeping on top of me.”
Wen Yao rubbed her eyes, looking somewhat innocent.
“Don’t you always like holding me while I sleep?”
Xie Zongxun sat up and glanced at her. “Holding you means letting you sleep in my arms. But last night…”
Recalling the scene from the night before—how she had climbed onto him like a child, treating him purely as a mattress—Xie Zongxun, who had never been treated like this before, was furious and now just wanted to vent.
He checked the time. There was still an hour and a half before class.
“Take it off.”
Wen Yao’s eyelashes fluttered slightly. “What for?”
“Teaching you how to sleep properly.”
…
With twenty minutes left before class, Wen Yao brushed her teeth angrily.
She was going to be late again. She was genuinely developing a psychological aversion to ideology class.
“You’re so annoying.”
Xie Zongxun glanced at her calmly, his expression as gentle as a spring breeze. “You seemed pretty happy earlier.”
“I’m going to be late again. The teacher will say something.”
Xie Zongxun snorted. “What’s there to fear when you’re with me?”
After leaving the house, Xie Zongxun handed Wen Yao a helmet and revved the motorcycle’s engine to the max.
He finally brought Wen Yao into the classroom five minutes before the bell rang.
Wen Yao was still shaken by the speed, having repeatedly begged him to slow down, but he acted as if he were deaf, only going faster and faster.
After arriving at the teaching building, he helped her off the bike, removed her helmet, and said softly,
“Can you say something else? I’m tired of hearing that even in bed. When have I ever listened to you?”
Wen Yao was speechless. Riding so fast…
If he died, it wouldn’t matter, but what about her?
Gu Yanche had come today, holding a breakfast in his hand, which he casually handed to Xie Zongxun.
Xie Zongxun passed it to Wen Yao. When she tried to refuse, his icy gaze swept over her.
Wen Yao reluctantly took it, covering her face as she nibbled on a small bun, took a few sips of hot milk, and then put on her mask.
In the final minute, her three roommates rushed over.
There happened to be three empty seats next to Wen Yao, so they sat down accordingly, with Tang Li taking the seat beside her.Glancing at Xie Zongxun beside Wen Yao.
While preparing for class, Xie Zongxun was rummaging through his bag for a notebook and pulled out a piece of candy, habitually handing it to Wen Yao.
She loved these kinds of sickeningly sweet things.
Wen Yao glanced at the outstretched hand and instinctively shook her head. Her roommate was right there, and she didn’t want to take it.
Xie Zongxun furrowed his brows slightly and casually tossed the candy onto Tang Li’s desk. Tang Li picked it up, looking over in surprise, but Xie Zongxun had already shifted his gaze away, lazily flipping through his blank notebook.
Tang Li tugged at Wen Yao’s sleeve, mouthing the words:
“Did he give this to me?”
Wen Yao paused for a moment, then nodded. That was probably what he meant.
During class, Wen Yao listened attentively and took notes.
Xie Zongxun leaned back in his seat, playing on his phone, his elbow occasionally bumping against Wen Yao’s waist.
Wen Yao noticed and quickly scribbled a note for him.
“Stop touching me!”
Xie Zongxun glanced at it indifferently and sent her a message.
X: 【Sitting so straight, isn’t your back sore?】
X: 【Lean back and rest for a bit.】
Wen Liuliu: 【Stop bothering me, just play on your phone!】
Wen Yao couldn’t understand why he even came to class. His required notebook was completely empty, he wasn’t paying attention, and he was just playing on his phone in a different location—all while bothering her. This guy was really annoying.
After class, Wen Yao headed to another building with her roommates for their next lecture. Her face had improved a lot, though it was still slightly swollen, so she told them it was just an allergic reaction.
Xu Chao held Wen Yao’s hand, her tone full of affection: “Even with just your eyes showing, you look absolutely stunning! How is my Yaoyao so adorable!”
Wen Yao responded sincerely: “Chaochao is also incredibly adorable, I really like you!”
Tang Li, who was usually the most talkative, remained quiet this time, giggling incessantly before asking Xu Chao:
“Xie Zongxun gave this to me. What do you think he meant by that?”
Xu Chao thought about what she had seen earlier and replied seriously: “He tried to give it to Yaoyao, but she didn’t take it. He might have been a little annoyed.”
“Don’t overthink it. He probably didn’t mean anything by it.”
Xu Chao had a feeling Xie Zongxun was interested in Wen Yao, so she quickly dashed Tang Li’s hopes. Although she also liked handsome guys, she never got too emotionally invested—it was purely about looks.
But she couldn’t shake the feeling that Tang Li’s attitude toward Xie Zongxun was a bit different.
Tang Li blinked, staring at Wen Yao with hopeful yet nervous eyes. “Was it meant for you?”
Wen Yao hesitated, unsure how to respond. She found it difficult to decide.
Just then, Chi Ying’s cool voice chimed in.
“It was meant for Yaoyao. I saw it too.”
“Yaoyao didn’t take it, so he probably tried to toss it onto her desk but used too much force.”
Tang Li’s lips drooped. “Oh, I see.”
She murmured to herself: “Well, of course. No one could dislike Wen Yao.”
No one quite caught what she said.
Xu Chao tried to lighten the mood. “Alright, there are plenty of other handsome guys out there! Besides, Xie Zongxun is so cold—we can just admire his looks!”
Tang Li forced a smile, though her eyes held no real joy.
Wen Yao sighed inwardly. If Xie Zongxun were really her boyfriend, she wouldn’t hesitate to tell Tang Li, and she certainly wouldn’t casually say something like “you can have him.”
But given their current relationship, anything she said would be inappropriate—for herself, for Tang Li, and for Xie Zongxun.
Whatever she said would be wrong, out of place. The best approach was to keep it a secret.During the second professional class, there was a group discussion session. Tang Li didn’t say a single word to Wen Yao and completely ignored her suggestions.
Just before class ended, a message popped up on Wen Yao’s phone.
X: 【Have lunch with me at noon, side gate.】
Wen Liuliu: 【Okay.】
X: 【Walk slowly, don’t trip. I’ll wait for you.】
Gu Yanche sat in the back seat, watching Xie Zongxun’s lovesick behavior with speechless disdain.
“Damn, the passenger seat used to be my exclusive spot.”
Xie Zongxun lowered his gaze, his eyes turning cold and sharp.
“Have those people been arranged?”
