Even Lu Yingchi could not help but let out a soft laugh.
Miss Jing’s cheeks turned slightly red from the teasing. Fortunately, she was a Beta, so she maintained her composure: “That is enough, Jian Song. Sit down and pay attention in class.”
For Jian Song, what class he was taking did not matter, as he spent his time sleeping; this class was no exception. As soon as Miss Jing started lecturing, Jian Song began to feel drowsy. He covered his mouth and yawned, tears welling up in the corners of his eyes.
Seeing this, Lu Yingchi whispered, “Brother Jian, tired?”
Jian Song spared a moment to glance at Lu Yingchi, saying weakly, “Yeah, so tired.”
Lu Yingchi looked at the teacher and originally wanted to remind Jian Song to be careful. However, seeing that Miss Jing had already noticed Jian Song’s head drooping but remained silent, he realized that even the teacher was tired of trying to discipline Jian Song. He swallowed the warning he was about to give.
“It is alright, Brother Jian, sleep if you want to.”
Jian Song let out a lazy “Mm” and was just about to tell Lu Yingchi to wake him up if the Dean came by. However, the moment he turned his head, he locked eyes with the Dean, who was standing at the window, staring at him sinisterly.
Jian Song’s scalp tingled, and goosebumps rose instantly. He watched as the Dean pointed a finger at him and then slowly drew it across his neck. Cold sweat broke out on Jian Song’s back, and he stood up from his chair by pure reflex.
Lu Yingchi did not know why Jian Song stood up, and neither did the other students. Jiang Qi was even bold enough to ask, “Brother Jian, why did you stand up? Did you see the Dean?”
Jiang Qi glanced toward the window. “I do not see anyone.”
As soon as Jiang Qi finished speaking, the Dean’s eerie voice echoed from the doorway: “Student Jiang Qi, I am right here. Where are you looking?”
The color drained from Jiang Qi’s face, leaving him pale. He turned his head slowly toward the Dean, wearing a miserable smile, and his voice trembled: “De-Dean.”
The Dean gave a small, gentle smile, his tone mild: “Oh, calling me Dean now? Did you not just call me Baldy a second ago?”
Jiang Qi swallowed hard and gave a sheepish laugh. “No, I did not, did I, Dean?”
The Dean straightened his posture, his expression gradually growing serious: “Jian Song, do not sleep in class, and do not talk to Jiang Qi. If I catch you two again, you will be reporting under the national flag for a self-reflection!”
It seemed the Dean intended to let Jian Song off the hook this time. Jian Song’s eyes lit up, and he nodded repeatedly: “Yes, yes, yes! Thank you, Dean, for sparing my life!”
The Dean scoffed, then turned his gaze toward Lu Yingchi, his expression softening into a gentle smile: “You must be Student Lu Yingchi, right?”
Lu Yingchi, used to big scenes, stood up and said: “Hello, Dean.”
The Dean looked benevolent, and even the few lone hairs on his head seemed to sway happily in the wind: “Oh, oh, good, good. What a polite and well-behaved child. Sit down, sit down, do not exhaust yourself.”
This was the school’s golden nugget, a student bound for the top university in the country, a symbol of supreme honor. Having Lu Yingchi meant having a living advertisement; by next year, the school’s enrollment would be through the roof! The thought of more students filling the school next year made the Dean look at Lu Yingchi with even more affection. He was the school’s precious treasure.
After showing his concern for Lu Yingchi, the Dean gave Jian Song a warning glare before leaving.
Once the Dean was gone, Jian Song sat down, his mouth hanging open, still not having recovered from the scene. He turned to look at Lu Yingchi, wondering if this guy knew some sort of dark magic. Why did every teacher change into such a gentle, doting tone the moment they saw him? This was something he would not even dare to dream about.
Jian Song’s gaze was too intense, making Lu Yingchi feel uncomfortable. He could not help but turn his head and ask: “Brother Jian, why are you staring at me like that?”
Jian Song coughed lightly and, avoiding Miss Jing’s notice, secretly whispered to Lu Yingchi: “Lu Yingchi, tell me the truth, do you know any magic?”
Lu Yingchi was stunned, unable to react: “Huh? Magic?”
Jian Song nodded, looking dead serious: “Yeah. If you do not know magic, why is every teacher, even that bald devil, so nice to you, like you are their own son?”
Lu Yingchi was amused by Jian Song’s analogy. Watching how serious Jian Song looked, he could not resist teasing him: “Actually, I am the Dean’s son.”
Jian Song’s eyes widened, and he gasped: “Really? Damn, I do not read much, do not lie to me.”
Lu Yingchi could not help but laugh, but fearing the teacher would notice, he buried his face in his arms, laughing silently. Watching Lu Yingchi’s body shake violently, Jian Song knew, even if he were foolish, that Lu Yingchi was lying to him.
His face turned red, and realizing he had been played, he swatted Lu Yingchi’s back. Because he was afraid the teacher would notice, he did not use much strength. To Lu Yingchi, that little bit of force felt like playful flirting. Even if he were to die right then, it would be a pleasure.
Lu Yingchi looked at Jian Song with a beaming smile: “Tell me, Brother Jian, do you think a Beta Dean could give birth to an Alpha?”
Jian Song’s brain spun. He had not been serious in biology class; he had just spent the time sleeping. Who would listen to such a boring class? But looking at Lu Yingchi, Jian Song felt that if the other found out he did not even know that, he would definitely be laughed to death. He could not admit he did not know.
He pretended to cough a few times: “H-how could I not know? I am a genius; who are you to question me?”
Jian Song scoffed and turned his face away, refusing to look at Lu Yingchi. Watching Jian Song’s obviously guilty, posturing act, Lu Yingchi laughed silently.
What an easily flustered cat.
The morning classes passed quickly. At noon, the dismissal bell rang, and everyone began packing their bags, preparing to head home. After Jian Song packed his bag, he did not rush to leave; instead, he stood by the door and waited for a moment.
When Lu Yingchi walked over, he thought Jian Song was waiting for him, and his heart began to race. He opened his mouth to talk to Jian Song, only to hear a lively voice from behind: “Brother Jian, I am packed. Let us go.”
Jian Song’s gaze skipped over him and landed on Jiang Qi behind him: “Mm, let us go.”
