Summer. S City Airport.
A discreetly luxurious car pulled to a stop. The driver immediately got out and respectfully opened the door for the man inside.
“President Fu, we’re here.”
“We’ve just been informed that the flight has been delayed by half an hour due to the weather. President Fu and the rest of the party can wait in the VIP lounge.”
“Mm.”
Fu Rongzheng replied quietly and stepped out of the car.
He wore a bespoke suit, his tall frame lean and elegant.
Even with the light behind him, his face was flawless from every angle. Amid the streams of people passing through the airport, he stood apart and drew every eye.
Quite a few people stopped to sneak a look, but his cool, commanding presence kept them from approaching. They automatically left a path for him.
“Who’s that important-looking guy? He’s handsome and has such presence—and look at all those senior executives, secretaries, and assistants following him!”
“Isn’t he from Fengchi Group? I saw the Fengchi Group logo on their briefcases!”
“Really? Fengchi Group—a world-leading automaker? Was that guy just now the heir to Fengchi Group?”
“Whoa! The heir is that handsome? Let me see!”
As they talked, a crowd suddenly surged toward him, phones out and cameras rolling.
Shu Yuwei, a brand-new assistant at the back of the business-trip party, was nearly crushed by the oncoming crowd.
Seriously, what was there to film? Someone get her out of here!
“Excuse me! Let me through!”
Shu Yuwei tried to push through, but the crowd didn’t budge.
Fu Rongzheng noticed the commotion. He stopped, glanced over, and said something.
Airport security soon arrived and dispersed the crowd.
Secretary Zhao Qian came over too. “Assistant Shu! Are you all right?”
Shu Yuwei shook her head. “I’m fine. Secretary Zhao, does the boss always get surrounded by crowds when he travels?”
“It’s usually not this bad. The airport just happens to be especially crowded today!”
“Still, President Fu has always been like this. Wherever he goes, he’s the center of attention!”
Shu Yuwei nodded. That was true. Not long ago, when President Fu had been parachuted into the branch office, he’d caused quite a stir there too.
“Come on, Assistant Shu. Walk in front of me.”
“Okay, thank you, Secretary Zhao.”
Shu Yuwei went with Secretary Zhao and the others into the airport’s VIP lounge.
Fu Rongzheng’s phone kept ringing as he took work calls with companies in various countries, switching back and forth between English, German, and French.
Yet he remained perfectly composed, handling everything in an orderly fashion.
After revising the business-trip itinerary to account for the flight delay, Shu Yuwei made a cup of coffee and brought it over.
“Boss, your coffee.”
Fu Rongzheng didn’t look at her or say anything. He only gave a slight nod.
Shu Yuwei set the coffee down.
She’d been Fu Rongzheng’s assistant for two months and was already used to her big boss’s aloofness.
Aloof was better than stingy.
When she’d first joined Fengchi Group’s branch office, she’d worked under a stingy boss who constantly made her work overtime, dangled empty promises, and found all sorts of excuses to dock employees’ bonuses.
Shu Yuwei had just graduated from college and started her first job at twenty-one. Without her salary, she’d been so broke she could barely afford rent.
Just as she was about to quit, Fengchi headquarters discovered irregularities and financial problems at the branch.
They immediately sent Fengchi Group’s heir, Fu Rongzheng, to take over as executive president.
And so Shu Yuwei got a new boss.
Her new boss was a little aloof, but he never made employees work overtime or delayed their pay. He’d even improved their benefits.
Shu Yuwei was very satisfied.
“Assistant Shu, email Linda in Marketing and coordinate with her on the latest report figures.”
Fu Rongzheng had given her a task.
Shu Yuwei hurried to do it. “Of course, boss!”
She sent the email just as it was time to board.
Shu Yuwei shut her laptop and followed her boss and the others into first class.
It was her first time flying first class.
She tried to look calm, as if she’d seen it all before, but in reality, she couldn’t stop sneaking glances around.
So this was what first class was like!
She enjoyed the food they served and smiled, pleased.
Aloof was good. A man of few words was good!
As long as her boss kept being this generous, she’d work for him until retirement!
Shu Yuwei didn’t have a particularly impressive degree or any special skills. She’d heard her upperclassmen say that when you started working after graduation, having the right boss mattered a lot.
With a good leader, you could rise right along with them, steadily earn promotions and raises, and achieve financial freedom!
Secretary Zhao, who worked beside Fu Rongzheng, was a perfect example.
Shu Yuwei knew that Secretary Zhao had started working for Fu Rongzheng right after graduating too.
In just a few short years, he’d gone from an ordinary graduate with no connections or background to the right-hand man of the heir to a leading automaker—and reached the million-yuan-a-year salary bracket early in his career.
Of course, Secretary Zhao’s own ability and hard work had played a part, but having a boss who recognized his talent was just as important.
A few hours later, the plane landed, and they arrived in the city where they were traveling on business.
Shu Yuwei was determined to get in her boss’s good graces and earn a promotion and raise. As a result, the way she looked at her aloof boss grew considerably warmer.
She went out of her way to be helpful to Fu Rongzheng.
“Boss, don’t move! I’ll get your luggage!”
“Boss! Here’s some water. I’ve already opened the cap!”
“Boss, the sun’s strong here. I’ll hold the umbrella for you!”
“Boss! Here’s your jacket. I had it pressed!”
“Boss…”
One look from Fu Rongzheng, one furrow of his brow, and Shu Yuwei immediately knew what he needed.
Secretary Zhao couldn’t help praising her. “Assistant Shu may be new to the workplace, but she’s really good! She’s enthusiastic and energetic, and so attentive…”
“She even picks up on President Fu’s needs before I do. She’s got real potential.”
“President Fu, how about taking Assistant Shu back to headquarters with you once we’ve wrapped things up at the branch?”
Secretary Zhao made the suggestion sincerely.
Fu Rongzheng put on his suit jacket and said coolly, “We’ll see. She still needs more experience.”
“Boss!”
Just then, Shu Yuwei ran over with a coffee. “Your coffee!”
“Oh, and I bought you some allergy medicine too. There’s a lot of pollen here, so be careful.”
Her bright, round eyes were fixed on him.
In the sunlight, her smile was dazzling.
Fu Rongzheng paused, then turned his face away, looking uncomfortable.
He took the coffee and medicine without a word and turned to leave.
“?”
Shu Yuwei was a little baffled.
But her boss had always been the type to keep a cold expression. This was normal, normal.
With that thought, Shu Yuwei followed Fu Rongzheng into the car, and they headed to the group’s factory and research and development center.
The relevant senior managers were already there to receive them.
