“Nooooooo!”

The man shouted.

Tears streamed down his face as he shut his eyes, afraid of what he might see if he opened them.Full novel: Strong holds — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He felt all his energy drain out.

“Open your damn eyes.”

The man refused, his eyes tightly shut and his lips trembling.

“Open your eyes, Rufus!”

Alistair commanded, but Rufus refused.

“I’ll give you five seconds…”

Before Alistair could complete his sentence Rufus opened his eyes.

Slowly his gaze went to the screen, only to see that his mother was fine.

Next to her was Angelina.

Both of them were looking at a goat that had been shot.

Suddenly his mother charged at the man who had killed her goat.

Although she had planned to kill the goat herself to make a goat meat meal for her grandchildren, she was too weak to do it.

Angelina then explained that she was the one who had asked the man to help them kill the goat.

When Rufus saw this scene all his tense nerves relaxed.

“Now I’m going to ask you again, and this time if you don’t…”

A wicked smile appeared on Alistair’s lip.

“You’ll be planning funerals, that’s if you’ll be alive to plan them.”

Rufus knew that it was not an empty threat.

He had heard stories about how cruel the demon called Alistair was, but he never believed them until now.

“Where are the goods?”

Alistair asked again, then sipped his whiskey.

“Your brother is very greedy and will not spend a penny to protect your family.”

“You’re just being used by him.”

Rufus bit his lip.

“Wh… why do you want my brother’s goods?”

Not because what Rufus said was funny but because it was unbelievable that someone was boldly claiming his properties as theirs.

“Your brother’s goods, huh?”

His mind flashed back to when he had single handedly searched for the rare chemical called Nestima.

It is a colorless liquid that everyone including the government had searched for, because everyone wanted to get their hands on it.

This chemical is a substance used in creating special inks that are colorless.

These inks can be used by the government to pass secret messages, they can be used in banks, in the military, and of course many businessmen needed it.

It was made by a scientist called Rockman Hill years ago.

He made only a single portion in a small bottle.

It was used by the government to send a secret mission to the military, which led to the victory of Pink Country in a war.

The inks produced by Nestima can only be viewed under moonlight, which means if someone sent a message through a letter using Nestima, once placed under moonlight everything written becomes visible.

However after that portion was used the government forced Rockman Hill to produce more.

They gave him a huge lab filled with equipment.

Just like every other chemical substance, Nestima reacts explosively with some chemicals, especially sodium.

While Rockman was in the lab producing a large portion of Nestima he was not aware that his assistant had accidentally brought in sodium instead of potassium.

Rockman added the sodium without thinking and,

“Booom!!”

Down went the lab and everything in it.

Rockman died, his body blasted into numerous pieces, same as his assistant.

The government sent researchers and professional scientists but no one could find Nestima, not even a trace of it.

The government and everyone who wanted Nestima searched for years but no one found it.

However Alistair decided to try his luck and happened to find a little bottle buried in a place called Savura, a small town where Rockman sometimes went for holidays with his family.

At first Alistair did not believe that the small liquid was Nestima.

He decided to look at the liquid under moonlight and specks of silver with little traces of gold were seen in the bottle.

Alistair had his trusted subordinates who were scientists formulate more of the liquid, and they did.

When they had produced about a thousand bottles Alistair decided that he would ship them to Brown Country where he had an underground warehouse that would be safe for Nestima.

When it was time to ship the goods something came up and he asked a few of his subordinates to handle it.

He made Callar the head of the team that would ship the goods.

At that time he needed Kane to be by his side.

Of course Alistair was not the type to be easily fooled.

He sent Angelina to go stay with Callar’s mother while Kane investigated everything.

They found out that the sea pirates were no pirates.

They were people Callar had planned with beforehand to steal the goods because he suspected them to be Nestima.

Alistair sent his men to go stay with Callar as his loyal men.

Callar was smart.

He did not allow anyone to get access to the goods, but he was not smart enough as he took his brother to be the only one who could have access to them.

Each time Alistair asked, Callar would say,

“We’ve not yet located the pirates.”

Alistair knew the minds of both brothers and they had one thing in common, greed.

Callar wanted power and money while the other wanted his brother to be his servant.

A smug smile played on his lips.

“That damn bastard dares to keep my goods.”

He then looked at Rufus.

“I didn’t bring you here to have you killed or to harm your family.”

The dim red light changed to a bright light.

Rufus was now able to see Alistair’s face clearly.

“I already know where the goods are.”

Said Alistair.

Rufus’s back stiffened and then he thought to himself,

‘Well played.

As expected of you.’

He was not entirely surprised that Alistair knew the location of the goods, and at the same time he was amazed by the intelligence of Alistair Morgan.

“All this was to test your loyalty… I know what you want.”

Rufus looked at Alistair, his eyes narrowing.

“What I want?”

Alistair took another sip of his whiskey.

“Go against him and you’ll get it.

What do you say?”
