Warren asked.

He didn’t specify who, but Kustiel knew exactly who he meant.

Kustiel gave a light nod.Full novel: Surviving as the Devil’s Child — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“I did.”

“And?”

“To be honest…

it makes no sense.

It shouldn’t be possible for a human to be that cute…”

Kustiel expected Warren to argue, but the man simply nodded calmly.

“Indeed.”

“I wondered if she wasn’t human, but there was no trace of any other race in her body.”

“So she really is human?”

“Most likely.”

“Captain.”

Warren addressed Kustiel in a solemn tone.

When Kustiel looked up, Warren raised his index finger.

What was that supposed to mean?

As Kustiel stared in confusion, Warren spoke in a low voice.

“Ellie grabbed my finger.

Tight.”

Kustiel retorted.

“How envious.

I’ll have to try that next time.”

“It won’t be easy.

She’s quite shy around strangers.”

As Warren lowered his finger, looking smug as if to say, ‘You’ll never match me,’ Kustiel replied smoothly.

“She seemed to hold onto me just fine, though.”

Of course, he had bribed her with chocolate.

Unaware of this, Warren’s eyes widened before his brow furrowed.

He was likely plotting how he, too, could hold Ellie to his heart’s content.

‘Incredible.

Even Warren is like this.’

Warren was the one who cared about Lucas’s safety more than anyone else.

His entire life, every single moment, revolved around Lucas.

He was Lucas’s right-hand man, completely impervious to temptation, which made him the most trusted of all.

Yet, he seemed utterly enchanted by a tiny baby girl.

Kustiel knew he should find this dangerous, but he couldn’t bring himself to.

After all, Kustiel himself was fighting the urge to kidnap Ellie, hide her away in his room, and never show her to anyone else.

“I’m going in to see our lord.”

“Pardon?

Ah, yes.

Go ahead.”

Warren stepped aside.

He knocked.

“My lord.

I’m coming in.”

The response came from within.

“Is that you, Kun?

Come in.”

Stepping inside, Kustiel—Kun—bowed to Lucas.

“My lord.

I have met Eleonore.”

“And?”

“She is incredibly cu—apologies.

I sensed traces of mana.”

“Mana?

At her age?”

“Yes.

It seems she possesses a talent for magic.”

It might have been innate, but he chose not to mention that.

If he suggested she was born with it, Lucas would likely kill her on suspicion alone.

Kun did not want Ellie to die, so he wanted to believe she was simply a genius.

No, he did believe it.

Ellie was merely a prodigy of the century, born with an extraordinary gift for magic.

There was no way she was a weapon sent by Kareha to take Lucas’s life.

Kun didn’t even realize that his judgment was already being clouded because of Ellie.
