22 – Don’t Like Men
Lin Yaojia’s body suddenly stiffened.
Her gaze slowly, very slowly, fell upon Huo Chengyu.
She looked him over once more.
To be honest, he wasn’t particularly handsome—just average-looking, with regular features.
In fact, the book hadn’t spent much time describing the male lead’s appearance.
But when he appeared so ordinary before Lin Yaojia,
she found it rather hard to accept.
[998, are you serious?]
998 was quite displeased with her questioning: [Anyone can be a protagonist. It’s not just those with outstanding looks. Everyone has their own story.
Every story has a reason worth telling.]
That made sense.
Yet Lin Yaojia’s gaze remained somewhat indescribable.
Sensing this, Huo Chengyu’s smile faltered slightly. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Lin Yaojia quickly replied. “Nice to meet you.”
“Then, can I add you on WeChat?” Huo Chengyu suddenly asked, hurriedly explaining, “I used to live in Yicheng too. You feel very familiar to me.”
“Of course,” Lin Yaojia said. “Should I scan you, or you scan me?”
“I’ll scan you,” Huo Chengyu opened WeChat.
“Okay.”
Just as Lin Yaojia was about to find her QR code, she saw the comment she was about to post and froze.
Damn!
She almost forgot—in Huo Songjin’s eyes, her main account belonged to a gay guy!
Thank goodness she hadn’t sent it!
Lin Yaojia was immensely grateful that Huo Chengyu had interrupted her earlier. She quickly canceled the like and exited her Moments before adding Huo Chengyu on WeChat.
A few minutes later, Lin Yaojia made up an excuse and returned to the venue.
After the banquet ended, she rode home with Lin Mu.
Lin Jingbei had gotten off work early today and was watching a movie in the living room.
Seeing Lin Yaojia rush to the fridge as soon as she got home and happily dig into some ice cream, he reminded her, “Your tutor will be here as usual tomorrow. Don’t sleep in.”
“Got it.”
Lin Yaojia replied with a pained expression.
Who would have thought that the curriculum here would differ so much from what she had studied before?!
She had sailed through elementary and middle school, only to stumble in her very first high school class.
Talk about bad luck.
For the remaining month of summer vacation, Lin Yaojia attended tutoring during the day and played games with the expert at night.
In a month, she had a basic grasp of the first semester of high school.
But her gaming skills were still terrible.
The night before school started, at eight o’clock.
Lin Yaojia logged in as usual, and Huo Songjin was already online.
He was still wearing that goose-yellow dress, his blue ponytail looking rather playful.
“Hey, expert, good evening.”
The girl’s voice was sweet, her enunciation crisp and clear. Through the voice changer, it transformed into a young boy’s voice, with the last word carrying a hint of a minty tone.
After a month, Huo Songjin had grown accustomed to her various tones.
“Hold on a sec, I need to reply to a message.”
“Okay, sure.” Lin Yaojia nodded.
After a pause, she suddenly remembered that she had paid the remaining balance to the person in charge earlier that day.
“Expert, are you happy playing games with me?”
What a question…
On the other end, Huo Songjin glanced suspiciously at the Black-skinned Explosion Head beside him.
After a subtle silence of a few seconds, he replied ambiguously, “It’s alright.”
Lin Yaojia pondered for a moment. “Then, can we keep playing for another month? I don’t think my skills are that great yet…”
As if they could be.
When Lin Yaojia played games, she was incredibly timid.
Before even seeing the enemy, she would start screaming at the sound of footsteps as if someone could take her life from a distance.
Following behind Huo Songjin, she had been carried to victory for a month. Her account level had gone up, but her actual skills were still terrible.
Huo Songjin said, “I won’t be doing paid gaming next month.”
“Why?!” Lin Yaojia was stunned.
“I have to go to school.”
“Oh, oh.” Lin Yaojia scratched her head, almost forgetting that the big shot was also starting school tomorrow.
She sighed, grabbed a bottle of Wahaha Nutri-Express nearby, and bit the straw in frustration.
Huo Songjin raised an eyebrow slightly. “You don’t seem surprised that I’m a student.”
He paused for a moment. “Do you know me?”
!
Lin Yaojia
Danger!!
“No, I just thought your voice sounded young, so you must still be a student,” she pretended to stay calm, using all her years of wisdom in this answer.
“Oh.” The big shot responded and didn’t say anything else, as if he believed it.
When the game started, he suddenly said, “I’ve never been in a relationship.”
“?” Lin Yaojia looked a bit confused, not understanding why he suddenly brought this up.
So she followed his topic and said, “I haven’t either.”
Huo Songjin: “But my sexual orientation is toward girls. I don’t like guys.”
“…”
So…
Do you think that I, as a guy, have a crush on you and went through all this trouble to get close to you?
Lin Yaojia felt like she understood the big shot’s thoughts. “I know.”
“Mm.” He responded, then added after a moment, “As long as you know.”
Lin Yaojia: “”
This conversation is impossible.
“How are things with your crush?”
Huo Songjin rarely asked about such things. This was the first time.
Lin Yaojia lied without hesitation: “Still the same. He’s too aloof. Even when I chat with him, he’s not very responsive. Come to think of it, we haven’t seen each other for a month now.”
Her tone was completely flat, showing no sadness.
998 snorted coldly: [You’re clearly mixing in your own agenda!]
On the surface, she didn’t mention Huo Songjin, but every word was about him.
Lin Yaojia sighed.
[You told me to save him, but looking at him now, his life seems pretty good. I don’t see how I have the ability to save him.]
The girl lowered her eyes in defeat.
Just then, chaotic footsteps sounded in the team voice chat. Huo Songjin told her to stay in the room and not come out.
He grabbed a Groza and rushed out to fight another team.
Lin Yaojia shook her mouse. The Black-skinned Explosion Head looked ugly, holding a pitiful pistol, with tattered clothes.
She propped her chin with one hand, feeling completely unhappy.
998 felt it needed to comfort this little trash-talker.
[You can’t say that. Think about it—there are nearly seven billion people in the world. Why did headquarters bind me to you? That means you have your strengths.]
Lin Yaojia looked at the kill announcements and grew a bit interested. [Like what?]
998 pondered: [You’re pretty good at trash-talking?]
[…] Lin Yaojia took a deep breath. [Get lost!]
As soon as she said it, she flicked 998 hard, and the white-haired ball plopped into the trash can.
998: !
They played until ten o’clock, and then Lin Yaojia said, “You have school tomorrow, so let’s stop here for today.”
Huo Songjin nodded. “Alright. I’ll have Brother Dong refund the remaining money to you.”
Lin Yaojia: “No need.”
Huo Songjin: “You get what you pay for. Payment and goods should be settled.”
Lin Yaojia pursed her lips. “Okay.”
“Mhm.”
The boy responded softly, then stepped out of the line.
