5 – Both Enter the Police Station
“What’s going on over there? Why are they fighting?”
Lin Yaojia turned to look at Huo Songjin. He took a sip of cola, his Adam’s apple bobbing lightly, his index finger pressing down on the mouse to shoot, with only one earpiece on.
Hearing her question, he replied after a few seconds, “Don’t know.”
“Oh.”
Huo Songjin’s personality was truly cold, and Lin Yaojia herself wasn’t exactly the friendliest either. Even though she felt sorry for this character, she didn’t continue the conversation.
“Stop fighting! I’m calling the police!”
The receptionist shouted at the top of her lungs.
The two men wrestling not far away showed no signs of stopping, throwing punches at each other’s faces with all their might.
A girl in a white dress stood delicately to the side, looking rather helpless.
She bit her lip lightly and whispered, “Please stop fighting.”
Tsk.
Lin Yaojia thought to herself, seems like it’s the classic two guys fighting over a girl scenario.
She eagerly craned her neck, her eyes sparkling with curiosity, no different from the gossiping aunties on the street, full of intrigue and excitement.
Of the two men fighting, one was burly, the other thin.
Lin Yaojia: [998, want to make a bet?]
998: [Bet on what?]
Lin Yaojia: [Which of those two guys do you think might win?]
998: [You’re so bored.]
It was curled up on the table. Lin Yaojia tentatively reached out to touch it and was surprised to find she could actually feel it!
The texture was soft and fluffy, like a small, round plush toy.
Lin Yaojia asked curiously, [How come I can touch you now?]
998: [Only you can touch me.]
[Can other people see you?]
998 shook its head: [No.]
Lin Yaojia suddenly became interested. With a light flick of her finger, she sent 998 flying to the corner of the table. It landed with a soft thud and didn’t get up.
[W-what are you doing?!]
998 covered its bottom, furious.
Its entire body puffed up, turning a pinkish color.
Lin Yaojia didn’t mind: [I just flicked you, that’s all.]
Since 998 looked the same from both ends, Lin Yaojia had no idea she had flicked its bottom.
998: […] May lightning strike this little troublemaker!
“Water got into the power strip!” the girl in the white dress screamed.
Lin Yaojia’s attention was drawn back. She looked over to see the receptionist with a cold expression, immediately cutting off the power.
“Damn…”
A low curse came from beside her, just loud enough to convey its owner’s displeasure.
Lin Yaojia turned to see Huo Songjin’s fingers still resting on the keyboard, the pitch-black computer screen mirroring his equally dark expression.
Hmm…
Lin Yaojia rarely played games, mainly because she was too terrible at them and had no sense of enjoyment.
But that didn’t stop her from understanding Huo Songjin’s mood.
For example, when she was reading a novel at the most exciting part and her phone suddenly died.
She would become incredibly irritable, feeling a strong urge to punch someone.
So, when Huo Songjin stood up to leave, she didn’t even try to stop him.
The tall, long-legged boy strode over, grabbing each man by the neck with one hand, his expression grim. “Had enough yet?”
“Think fighting makes you look cool?”
“Or do you just enjoy getting beaten up?”
Each sentence was more arrogant than the last. The two men being held immediately turned their anger toward Huo Songjin, cursing him in unison.
He looked as if he didn’t care, but his grip tightened, making the two men start to beg for mercy.
Lin Yaojia’s gaze traveled upward from the bulging veins on the back of his hand to the smooth muscle lines of his forearm. The boy had broad shoulders and a long, pale neck.
She stared blankly for a long moment before swallowing hard.
Damn.
This man was just too mesmerizing.
When the police arrived and saw the scene, they waved a hand and took Huo Songjin away as well.
Lin Yaojia was stunned.
Huo Songjin had come from the capital to Yicheng, unfamiliar with the place, and from the book, it was clear that Mr. and Mrs. Ye were not welcoming him.
They had more than just Huo Songjin as their child—they also had a younger son.
If he ended up at the police station, who would bail him out?
As the head of his fan club, Lin Yaojia immediately stood up and chased after them. Passing by the door, she gritted her teeth and knocked her head against it.
It made a loud thud.
The receptionist, who had been grumbling while cleaning up the mess, swallowed her curse and stared at her in horror.
Lin Yaojia’s eyes welled up with tears from the pain, and she hurriedly ran out, calling, “Wait, Officer! I’m the victim!”
The police officer standing by the car glanced at her suspiciously. “Then you come along too.”
“Okay.”
And so, Lin Yaojia, clutching her heavily injured forehead, sat down beside Huo Songjin.
Huo Songjin rubbed his sore wrist. After playing games and then fighting, his wrist was struggling to handle it.
Leaning against the window, Lin Yaojia could faintly smell the light scent of soap powder on him. Watching the boy’s prominent wrist bones, she whispered, “Does your hand hurt?”
Huo Songjin shook his head. After a few seconds, he asked, “Why did you come?”
Lin Yaojia replied, “…They hit me just now.”
She tilted her head slightly, revealing her reddened forehead.
The girl’s eyes were large and lively, darting around.
Her ponytail was a bit messy, and the area around her temple was indeed red and swollen.
Huo Songjin pondered for a moment.
He remembered pulling the girl away earlier.
“I didn’t just…”
Lin Yaojia, afraid the officer in front might hear, quickly said, “It’s just a little bump, not too painful.”
The officer in the passenger seat turned around and saw the two of them leaning close together, whispering.
The boy was handsome, his back straight, with a cool and lazy demeanor, casually rubbing his wrist.
The girl was talking and smiling, her eyes curved like crescent moons.
They looked exactly like a young couple.
It was the first time the officer had seen such a harmonious and pleasant scene in a police car. After a moment’s hesitation, he tapped on the window and said, “Keep it down.”
Lin Yaojia immediately straightened up and pressed her lips together.
Seeing her obedient expression, the officer couldn’t help adding, “If you want to date, you can do it when you get home. There’s still time.”
Lin Yaojia: “…”
Huo Songjin: “…”
At the police station, the four were split into two groups, separated by a long table, clearly divided.
The officer asked, “We received a report of a fight at the internet cafe. Tell me, what exactly happened?”
The thinner man immediately spoke up, “I was on a date with my girlfriend, and then this idiot threw a punch without saying a word! Officer, he started it!”
The heavier man slammed the table. “Who the hell are you calling an idiot?!”
“Quiet!” The officer frowned, interrupting them.
He pointed at the heavier man and asked, “Why did you hit him?”
The heavier man replied, “Xinxin is my girlfriend. We were just having a simple argument, and then this guy asked my girlfriend out on a date.”
Lin Yaojia yawned; she could guess the plot even with her toes.
These two were definitely fish in the white-dressed girl’s pond, and they were even smug, thinking they were the only ones.
Under the police questioning, when the two confronted each other, they realized they had indeed both been cheated on and fell speechless.
The police officer’s gaze fell on the other two.
“What’s going on with you?”
“It’s like this,” Lin Yaojia answered first. “Officer, I was playing Plants vs. Zombies and was just one sun away from buying a Peashooter when a mineral water bottle suddenly came flying at me, shaking heaven and earth…”
998 rubbed his nose, doubting Lin Yaojia’s ability to get into a 211 university.
“In the blink of an eye, this handsome guy next to me pulled me aside, but my head still got hit!”
