In her half-asleep state, she felt something heavy pressing down on his leg.

As someone who had been a reconnaissance soldier, Li Yanfeng had remained vigilant despite changing military roles. His eyes snapped open.

His mind cleared instantly, and he immediately remembered that he was married now, and the little woman sleeping beside him was his wife.Full novel: Swapped Bride? The Heiress Joins the Army and Conceives Twins with a Miracle Spring — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Li Yanfeng silently let out a breath of relief.

Only then did he realize that this little woman was a restless sleeper.

That heavy feeling just now was because she had thrown one of her legs over his, and she had kicked off the blanket as well.

She was kicking off the covers.

The temperature dropped at night, and if she slept like this all night, she would definitely catch a cold the next day.

She was wearing a long-sleeved, long-legged cotton pajama set. Having her pressed against him like this was also a huge test for him.

He carefully pulled the blanket back over her.

Lu Xinran was someone who got cold easily, while Li Yanfeng seemed to radiate warmth from every inch of his body.

Once Lu Xinran fell asleep, she would unconsciously move toward whatever was warm.

Her face was pressed against his chest. He was wearing only an undershirt, so their skin was touching. The soft, delicate sensation made his entire body tense.

Then this girl’s hands began wandering too.

She wrapped her arms around his waist, treating him like a human hot-water bottle.

Being held like this was incredibly comfortable.

Li Yanfeng considered himself a man with extremely strong willpower. Very few things could easily affect him.

But there was always an exception to everything.

In this situation, all he could do was close his eyes and desperately restrain himself.

Fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. The temperature was clearly low, yet at that moment, he felt as though his entire body was burning hot.

All he could do was close his eyes and recite quotations under his breath—

This was truly an enormous test for him.

He didn’t dare move at all.

He began reciting the quotations even faster.

Before dawn, Lu Xinran was awakened by the sound of a military bugle.

The family compound wasn’t far from the military camp, and the soldiers had morning training, so the bugle could be heard very clearly from here.

She opened her eyes but didn’t dare move yet. Her blood sugar tended to be a little low when she first woke up, so she needed to lie there for a while before getting up.

By then, there was already only one person left on the wooden bed.

She stared blankly at the ceiling, her mind empty for a moment. She was covered by the new quilt.

It was actually quite warm.

She should have slept pretty properly last night, right?

Surely she hadn’t tossed and turned too much.

After lying there for a while, she finally got up.

She changed her clothes and was just about to leave when the bedroom door was pushed open.

The two of them nearly collided.

Li Yanfeng reacted quickly and stopped in time.

Lu Xinran wasn’t so lucky.

She walked straight into his chest and rubbed her forehead and nose.

It hurt!

He was rock-solid—

“Are you all right?” His concerned voice came from above her.

“I’m fine.”

Li Yanfeng was worried that she had hurt herself. After all, this little woman was so delicate and soft-skinned.

Lu Xinran adjusted herself and regained her composure.

“Eat breakfast first. If you want to sleep afterward, you can go back to bed for a while,” Li Yanfeng said quietly.

Lu Xinran knew he was still off work today.

“Okay.”

Breakfast had already been set out on the table in the main room.

There were two steaming bowls of lamb paomo, two boiled eggs, some pickled vegetables, and a pot of millet porridge.

Steam was still rising from everything.

“You… made all this yourself?” Lu Xinran asked, somewhat surprised.

Li Yanfeng could tell that this little woman seemed rather doubtful that he knew how to cook.

Did she underestimate him?

“Yes. I went out this morning and bought some lamb.”

Lu Xinran glanced at the clock on the wall.

It was only seven-thirty.

“What time did you get up?” she asked.

“Six. I got used to it in the military camp.”

Lu Xinran looked at his stern, resolute face and noticed the fatigue between his brows.

Could he have slept poorly last night? Was it because of her?

“Yanfeng, did you not sleep well last night? You look a little tired. Did I cause you trouble?” Lu Xinran asked worriedly.

Li Yanfeng pressed his lips together. He hadn’t expected her to observe him so accurately.

But he immediately denied it.

“No. It’s not because of you. I’m not tired. Don’t overthink it.”

In reality, he had spent half the night reciting quotations and had only managed to fall into a daze sometime after midnight.

Just before dawn, she had finally let go of him and turned over. Only then had he completely relaxed.

He didn’t even know how long he had actually slept.

But there was no way he could let her know any of that.

Seeing how firmly he spoke and how open his expression was, she finally put her worries aside.

“Come over and eat while it’s hot.”

“I’m going to wash my face and brush my teeth.”

She was holding the toothpaste, toothbrush, glass, and towel she had just taken out of her suitcase.

“There’s hot water in the pot. Use that to wash.”

“Okay.”

After watching her leave, Li Yanfeng finally let out a silent sigh of relief.

Fortunately, she hadn’t noticed anything.

Ten minutes later, Lu Xinran returned.

It was still cold in the morning. She was wearing a light-gray knitted cardigan over a white blouse, paired with a wine-red plaid long skirt.

Her hair wasn’t braided yet. She was only wearing a headband, with her hair falling loosely down her back.

Lu Xinran recognized lamb paomo as one of the Northwest’s most famous dishes. She hadn’t expected it to already exist in this era.

“Try it and see how it tastes.”

“Okay.”

Li Yanfeng didn’t pick up his chopsticks. He watched her eat, wanting to hear her opinion.

“Mmm, it’s delicious. Yanfeng, you’re amazing.”

Lu Xinran quickly gave him her verdict, praising him without hesitation. Her beautiful eyes were filled with admiration.

Colonel Li instantly felt proud, though he still remembered to be modest.

“It’s really nothing. As long as you like it.”

He thought to himself that tomorrow, when he returned to the camp, he would have to learn a couple more dishes from the mess-hall cook.

“Mm. You should eat too!”

“Okay.”

After breakfast, Li Yanfeng headed out.

He said he was going to get some soil and wood so he could finish building the little vegetable garden for her.

Lu Xinran’s heart warmed.

He really had taken everything she said to heart.

“Then I’ll stay home and organize my things.”

“Okay. If anything comes up, wait until I get back to deal with it. Or you can go find Sister Xu if you need help,” he reminded her.

Lu Xinran couldn’t help laughing.

Was this man treating her like a child?

“I know.”

Li Yanfeng rode away on his 28-inch bicycle.

Lu Xinran returned to the bedroom, locked the door from inside, and immediately entered her space.

She first made a round to inspect the results from the past few days.

The vegetables, fruits, rice, and wheat she had planted earlier were all growing beautifully.

As expected of crops watered with spiritual spring water.

The vegetables and fruits were plump, fresh, and incredibly tempting.

She casually picked an apple, wiped it against her clothes, and took a bite.

Crisp and juicy.

It was very sweet, with an intense apple fragrance. She hadn’t eaten an apple this delicious in a long time.

The fish and shrimp were plump and healthy, while a small hill in the distance was covered in medicinal herbs.

Afterward, she took a shower and properly relaxed.

With the one-click cooking function, she prepared a table full of delicious dishes and indulged in a hearty meal.

After eating her fill, she felt completely satisfied.

She stayed in the space for an hour before taking her clothes out and hanging them in the wardrobe. She also brought out her shoes and arranged them neatly.

She took out some of the skincare products and daily necessities she had stocked up on, as well as her underwear and other personal items.

She would simply say that she had packed them in her suitcase and brought them with her.

Li Yanfeng definitely wouldn’t suspect anything.

She had almost finished organizing everything when she suddenly heard someone calling for her from outside—
