Despite maintaining a calm voice, Qiao Ruan could still hear her own trembling tone and feel the cold sweat continuously breaking out on her back.

On the very first day of her Rebirth, she encountered a kidnapping.

Originally, Qiao Ruan had planned to seriously learn martial arts and sanda after being reborn. Uncle Chen, who lived next door to the Fu family compound, was among the earliest to offer sanda training. In this era, parents’ salaries weren’t high; those working in the city earning 200 yuan a month were considered well-paid. Sending children to extracurricular classes wasn’t yet a widespread trend.

Qiao Ruan vaguely remembered that later, because Uncle Chen couldn’t attract students and had no one to inherit his skills, he became depressed and passed away at the young age of sixty.

Qiao Ruan genuinely wanted to improve her self-defense abilities. After all, with her current physical condition, she couldn’t even beat up that scumbag Shen Liancheng, and she might not even win a hair-pulling fight with Qiao Meng. Her health had always been poor. Although she had worked constantly in the countryside, she suffered from low blood sugar and qi deficiency, often fainting in the cowshed. Her aunt would never take her to the clinic for medicine or nourishment; she could only wait for Qiao Ruan to wake up and continue working!

Now, these two people were approaching menacingly. The man held a rope, and the woman carried a burlap sack. If she were kidnapped, who could save her?

Fu Hanchen didn’t like her and had arranged for her and Lin Ran to stay in rooms at opposite ends of the building—north and south. Her room was the most remote, making it difficult to call for help!

“Crime? If you report it now, the police won’t even bother to show up. But we won’t give you the chance to report it anyway!”

The man spoke in a low, threatening tone, enunciating each word clearly!

The woman even pulled a packet of drugs from her pocket: “Husband, let’s not waste time. There were two or three luxury cars parked at the inn entrance today. Some wealthy people might be staying here overnight. Let’s not alert them—hurry up and knock her out so we can take her away!”

The two rushed forward together. Qiao Ruan immediately dodged, darting to the other side.

She tightly clutched a lamp, its cord dragging on the floor!

The woman immediately contorted her face and charged forward: “What are you running for? Marry over there, have a son for someone, and life will be good. Don’t be ungrateful!”

Qiao Ruan narrowed her eyes, forcing herself to stay calm. She quickly lifted the lamp, raising the cord from the floor. The woman didn’t react in time and tripped over the cord, falling to the ground!

The man lost all patience and pulled a knife from his pocket.

When the sharp blade came into Qiao Ruan’s sight, a layer of cold sweat instantly broke out all over her body. A knife shows no mercy!

“Little girl, I’m warning you—if you dare make a sound now, I won’t care about living either. We’ll die together!”

Startled, Qiao Ruan threw the lamp at him, but the man caught it effortlessly and tossed it onto the bed. The lamp flickered on and off before going dark the next second—broken.

The room instantly plunged into darkness!

Qiao Ruan stood frozen in place. Damn it, it’s over!

Meanwhile, after composing herself, Lin Ran pushed aside her earlier fear. Since she had directed the middle-aged couple to Qiao Ruan’s room, she now needed to hurry to Fu Hanchen’s room to keep him occupied.

Lin Ran carried a gift in her hands as she walked to Fu Hanchen’s room and knocked on the door.

A deep, cold voice came from inside: “Who is it?”

“It’s me, Lin Ran.”

Footsteps sounded from inside the room, and soon the door was pulled open from within. Fu Hanchen had removed the outerwear he wore during the day, leaving only a black short-sleeved shirt and trousers. His broad shoulders and narrow waist accentuated his figure strikingly.

Paired with that handsome yet aloof face, Lin Ran’s breath caught in her throat.

However, Fu Hanchen’s expression remained unreadable, his tone icy as he asked, “What do you want?”

A flush crept across Lin Ran’s cheeks as she extended the gift in her hands. “Young Master Fu, since I’ll be living with the Fu family from now on, this is a small token of my sincerity. Please accept it.”

Fu Hanchen glanced down. Though he had no reason to reject her overture too coldly, he still couldn’t bring himself to accept it.

“I appreciate the gesture, but you should take it back. Tomorrow, you’ll be moving into the Fu family estate. Just focus on taking good care of the old master in the future.”

“Young Master Fu, there’s something else I wanted to say…”

Before Lin Ran could finish her sentence, a sharp, shattering sound suddenly echoed from a distance, growing louder as it approached.

Fu Hanchen’s gaze snapped toward the source of the noise!
