Inside an RV converted from a second-hand large truck, Xu Huaiyi was staring dumbfounded at the familiar and cozy scene, in a state of shock and speechless detachment.

Gu Huanxi had already come in once earlier. Not as shocked as he was, she calmly placed their daughter in the cradle and continued directing him to focus on self-rescue.

"Stop spacing out. It's just our RV coming along with the transmigration. This follows the Transmigration Law. If the Golden Finger isn't activated, what about the Protagonist's Halo?"Full novel: Taking an RV to the Ancient Past to Flee Famine and Farm — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

"Huh? Oh…"

"If you keep spacing out, slap yourself awake!"

After hearing this, Xu Huaiyi finally snapped out of it, but then became overly excited, touching and examining everything as if it were his first time on the RV. Little did anyone know, this RV was actually modified by him personally, and he was intimately familiar with everything inside.

"Help me get an Ejiao Oral Liquid, quickly!"

"Okay, okay…"

He swiftly opened the refrigerator, took out a box of Ejiao Oral Liquid, pulled out one tube, inserted a straw, and hurriedly brought it to Gu Huanxi's lips.

Ejiao nourishes blood and stops bleeding, making it perfectly suitable for her postpartum condition.

Gu Huanxi lay on her side on the bed and drank the tube from his hand. She then instructed, "I've already tested it. There's water and electricity on the vehicle, and both are usable. Find some millet and brown sugar, and quickly cook them in the electric heating pot."

"Okay, okay…"

Xu Huaiyi had a carefree personality but was meticulous and thorough in his work. He deftly cooked the millet porridge, and this time, without waiting for her to ask, he skillfully fried several eggs in a frying pan, each golden and shining like little suns.

Holding a plate in his left hand and chopsticks in his right, he fed Gu Huanxi bite by bite.

After eating four eggs in one go, Gu Huanxi's empty stomach finally felt better. She also regained some strength, no longer feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or experiencing heart palpitations and chest tightness with the slightest movement.

"Warm up a cup of milk for me."

"Sure, wait a moment, dear. I'll arrange it right away!"

After eating the eggs and drinking a large cup of milk, Gu Huanxi finally had the energy to tend to herself. The original host's sister-in-law, after delivering the baby, had simply stuffed a cloth bag filled with plant ash inside her and called it done. She hadn't even bothered to put on a pair of pants, leaving her legs sticky with a mix of blood and sweat—the feeling was indescribable.

There was a bathroom on the vehicle. Though small, it was fully equipped. Unfortunately, having just given birth, she didn't dare take a shower and could only manage with a wipe-down for now.

Xu Huaiyi prepared a basin of warm water, wet a towel, and first helped her clean her lower body. After changing into postpartum safety pants and covering her with a blanket, he wiped her upper body to prevent her from catching a cold. During this process, he changed the warm water several times, finally leaving his wife feeling fresh and tidy from head to toe.

"I finally feel alive again…"

Gu Huanxi lay on the soft rubber mattress, covered with a fine cashmere blanket, stretched her limbs comfortably, closed her eyes, and drifted into drowsiness.

Giving birth was too draining, especially after losing so much blood. Earlier, she had been holding on by sheer willpower. Now, as she relaxed in the comfortable surroundings, overwhelming sleepiness washed over her.

Xu Huaiyi felt heartbroken but still nudged her gently. "Dear, don't sleep yet. Have some millet porridge first. I've already cooked it…"

Upon hearing this, Gu Huanxi could only struggle to sit up halfway, gazing drowsily as he ladled out the porridge, scooped in several spoonfuls of brown sugar, then stirred and blew on it until it was cool enough to drink before bringing it over to feed her.

The millet in the RV had been prepared early on for her postpartum recovery. Ever since the couple resigned and moved from the city back to their old house in the countryside, they had developed every usable piece of land around the property.

The courtyard was planted with flowers and vegetables, while outside the yard, they grew some grains. The land wasn’t much—just over an acre in total after clearing—but they cultivated a wide variety: corn, sweet potatoes, peanuts, soybeans, even sesame and cotton in two rows. Millet, of course, was not left out, aiming for a well-rounded selection.

The millet was mainly grown to nourish her body after childbirth, so the couple put the most effort into tending it. Their hard work and expectations paid off: the hulled grains were plump and golden, and when cooked, a thick layer of oily film floated on top—sticky, fragrant, and especially nourishing.

With the addition of brown sugar, as the elders said, even giving birth to three babies at once could be nourished to a plump, fair complexion.

Gu Huanxi drank two bowls in a row, feeling even more lightened in her body, and the bleeding noticeably lessened.

The original host’s postpartum bleeding earlier wasn’t due to any injury—after all, their daughter was so frail, weighing at most around five pounds. How big could that little head be?

The main reason for the continuous bleeding was this body’s extreme weakness, with both qi and blood deficient and qi failing to contain the blood. After giving birth, that vital energy relaxed—bleeding was inevitable.

Now, with her consuming donkey-hide gelatin, eggs, milk, and millet porridge in rotation, it was certainly helping somewhat. However, medicine was still essential.

Thinking of this, Gu Huanxi no longer cared about sleeping. After watching him eat a few eggs and drink two bowls of millet porridge, she urged him to go to Doctor Jiao’s to fetch the medicine.

Xu Huaiyi immediately looked distressed. “Wife, we have no silver. All our money was spent on this RV. The remaining twenty thousand or so is in mobile banking, saved for your hospitalization and childbirth expenses. It’s useless here. If we’d known about the transmigration, we would’ve bought some gold to prepare—that’s the real hard currency…”

At this point, he suddenly thought of something and exclaimed joyfully, “Jewelry! Your silver jewelry! Hahaha, it’s all pure silver. It can definitely be used as money here…”

As he spoke, he opened drawers to search, quickly pulling out several jewelry boxes. There were their engagement rings, wedding rings, necklaces, and earrings, but those were platinum with diamonds and useless now. Fortunately, there were also several pairs of silver bracelets, all quite heavy and exquisitely carved, clearly not ordinary items.

Xu Huaiyi felt greatly reassured. Following his wife’s advice, he picked the most inconspicuous one, tucked it into his clothes, and silently chanted “exit RV.” In the blink of an eye, he was standing stiffly in the bare, empty room.

After collecting himself, he tried entering again, darting back and forth a few times until no trace of unusual emotion showed on his face. Then he opened the door, went out, and locked it behind him.

The couple from the Second Branch, who had been keeping an eye on the room’s movements, hurried out to investigate upon hearing the door open. Xu Huaili shouted loudly, “Third Brother, where are you going?”

Xu Huaiyi ignored him entirely, keeping his head down as he walked toward the main gate.

Xu Huaili let out a "hey" and started cursing, "Now he's got a temper? Who's he giving attitude to? I don't owe him anything…"

His wife, Li Qiuhua, tugged at his sleeve. "Why bother with him? You know he's as silent as a clam—no point getting yourself worked up over it."

After calming her husband down and stopping his cursing, she lowered her voice to remind him, "Did you see? He even locked the door when he went out. In broad daylight, with all his brothers and sisters-in-law living in the courtyard—who's he trying to keep out?"

Xu Huaili scoffed and spat. "What valuable stuff could be in his room worth stealing? He doesn’t even have a decent set of clothes. A thief would come out empty-handed."

But Li Qiuhua pondered and said, "Not necessarily. Could Third Brother’s wife really be so foolish as to not keep any private savings? Her father was a scholar before he died…"

Xu Huaili meaningfully tilted his chin toward the main house and chuckled. "With our mother around, do you think she’d be able to sleep at night without squeezing every last penny out of her?"

Li Qiuhua thought of her mother-in-law’s temperament, pursed her lips, and said nothing more.
