“I can’t believe this!” Mirabel stared at her cell phone, eyes locked on the screen as Fred spoke out.
He’s been trying to reach Maeve since the night before but her phone has been unreachable.
She ruined his plans last night.
Rae didn’t even get the chance to reveal her identity to everyone as promised.
The company’s investors and brand deals were all dropping from their agreement because Fred couldn’t keep his side of the deal.
The competition was forced to announce Maeve as the winner because the public couldn’t stop singing her praises.
Everyone was still very much mesmerized by her voice.
This was what Fred had avoided.
He knows Maeve so well to understand that if the praises continue, then she will be out of his control.
It’s a good thing she’s signed to his label, at least, he can still tame her somehow.
“Put Maeve through.
Call her through her assistant and tell her to report to my office.
I’m ready to talk about her next album.” Mirabel turned to look at Fred.
“What about Rae.
Her EP is meant to be out and her album before the month ends.” Mirabel said.
“There’s already an excuse she had a throat problem, so she can wait.
Maeve is the new talk of the town, plus she just made me lose money, I need to gain it back.” He sighed as he spoke.
Mirabel didn’t want to see Fred next to Maeve.
He could be saying this, but she could hear the desperation in his voice.
He was still in love with Maeve, especially after last night.
She had no idea why all the men were after Maeve.
“I did the pregnancy test Fred since I didn’t see my period anymore.” His eyes shifted to her.
“It showed two lines, Fred.” She sniffled as tears fell down her face.
“Promise me you’ll take care of me.
Because I’m so scared.” Mirabel cried into his arms and he hugged her.
“So you still love me, Fred?
I’m carrying your child.” Fred closed his eyes.
Pregnancy was the last thing he wanted, especially now that he’s trying to get Maeve back in his arms.
He was so sure she had left him because of the relationship between him and Mirabel.
There’s no other reason and he has decided to keep his distance, only for her to be pregnant?
“I love you Mirabel, you have nothing to worry about.” He said flatly and Mirabel smiled.
“You’re right, Rae should rest for a while.
Make her face reveal grandeur.
Maybe on the day of Maeve’s release.” Mirabel giggled.
….
In the Grey mansion, Clayton Grey walked towards the dining room with Maeve behind him.
There were maids lined up in the lounge, all greeting in unison the moment they saw him.
No one bothered to lift their heads, as if they were terrified of him.
Clayton didn’t respond, he only gave a faint nod the kind of gesture that said he didn’t need to speak to be obeyed.
Maeve’s eyes shifted to the lounge.
It was breathtakingly beautiful.
She didn’t have the time to admire it last night because she had been too scared for him.
The mansion was more than Maeve could have imagined.
She never thought anyone could be richer and more extravagant than the Orchards and now Clayton Grey has proven he was.
Paintings hung from one part of the wall to the other.
Beautiful priceless paintings.
Handcrafted images were placed in every corner of the house.
Maeve turned to the left and gasped at ‘The Veil Of Solara’, just hanging around the corner.
She recognized the painting from anywhere.
The painting wasn’t recognized because of the art, but because of its size.
This was the freaking veil of Solara’, the largest painting in the world, and it’s so surprising it fitted in here.
Rumor had it that a thousand hands helped complete it, the painter had traveled to different parts of the world, getting the signatures of kings and royal men to each sign on the painting.
It was auctioned for hundreds of millions.
And yet, somehow, it hung here, in this private mansion, as though it belonged to no one but him.
She had no idea when she took a step towards it, her hands touched the surface of the painting and she smiled.
“It’s so beautiful.” She muttered and turned back to look at him.
Clayton Greg’s mansion was a walk-through private museum.
One that would keep her in awe for the rest of her life.
“She’s my wife, so I expect you to respect and honour the same way you’d do to me.
Do you understand?”
“Yes, master.” They all sang in unison bowing their heads.
“What name would best suit you?” Maeve drew her brows at his words, wondering what he meant by that.
“Maeve Davis?”
“As married couples, what name do you think I should call you?” She smiled, finally understanding what he said.
“Still, Maeve, or Mrs Davis is still fine by me.”
“Bullshit, you’re a Grey now.
I’ll call you butterfly.” Maeve tried not to react to his words.
At the same time, Becky and Miles stepped inside the mansion.
Becky couldn’t believe her boss was married to Clayton freaking Grey.
What they both thought was impossible.
She wanted to scream and hug Maeve, but the man standing beside her looked too scary.
One look from him and you’d feel like melting to the floor.
“Good morning miss Maeve,” Becky said.
“Good morning sir.” He greeted Clayton politely, but he didn’t respond.
He only stared at her, before his eyes shifted to Miles.
“Joined me for breakfast when you’re done, Eve.” Maeve nodded.
Didn’t he just say right now he’d call her a butterfly?
Maybe he forgot, anyway, Eve is way better than Butterfly.
Becky rushed towards Maeve, her eyes still wide but she was still too stunned to speak.
Maeve could see it in her eyes.
One thing Becky wasn’t good at was hiding her emotions.
“Miss Maeve.” She whispered Maeve’s name looking around.
“What’s going on?” she hissed again reaching for Maeve’s hands, her tone rising with excitement.
Like she was about to burst with joy.
Even Maeve couldn’t tell.
She never experienced a thing like this in her past life.
All of these were new to her.
Maybe Clayton Grey is just another added test that the afterlife God decided to give her.
“I have no idea,” Maeve mouthed back, trying to stay composed.
“But I’m married, Becks again.”
Becky suddenly jumped with Maeve’s hands still in hers.
Like a child whose parent just agreed to go to Disneyland.
“You’re married to Clayton Grey?!
Clayton.
Freaking.
Grey, Miss Maeve!
Not some random rich guy, Mr Badass.”
Her voice cracked with disbelief, echoing faintly against the marble walls.
Clayton had several names around the country, a badass was just one of the many names.
Maeve’s face flushed with embarrassment.
“Lower your voice,” she muttered, forcing a smile for the servants around them.
No matter how nervous one was, a lady must always maintain her composure.
But Becky…
Becky had clearly thrown her manners out the window.
She was making them seem local.
Still, Maeve couldn’t blame her.
Even her heart was racing…
“Forgive Becky, how are you.
I’m so glad nothing bad happened to you.” Becky smiled.
“Well, your very sweet and caring husband, made sure I was taken care of by his assistant.
He also briefed me about your marriage and everything we need to do.”
“That’s by the way, Fred Orchard, sent a message about seeing you Miss m…
No, Mrs Grey.” Becky teased.
“Why?” Maeve asked.
“Talks about releasing your new album.”
