Nathan pressed on the screen, but only that message remained on it. He couldn't access anything else.
He looked around and only saw trash around him. The smell made him want to puke, but he managed to hold it in.
Just as he was looking around, his gaze traveled to a corner where there was a piece of glass.
When he saw his face, Nathan's breath stopped, and he couldn't believe his eyes. In the reflection, an unfamiliar face appeared. Even with the dirt on it, he was sure that it wasn't his own face.
"Fuck!"
He didn't remember the last time he swore, but he finally couldn't help it. Calm as water? He was clearly fucked.
The only possible explanation was that someone had done plastic surgery on him, but that wouldn't make sense either.
He lifted his pants and looked down. "Fuck!" That wasn't his. If he couldn't recognize it after all this time, he should shoot himself.
Nathan thought of the stories he liked to read in his free time, and his face turned ugly. But what was more alarming was the text. It didn't take a genius to figure out that he was most likely in danger.
He peeked outside and saw other shelters like his. The rain made it hard to see farther, but he could tell that he was in a city.
Now Nathan was struggling to choose between staying in place and most likely being in danger, or getting far away from here.
It didn't take long for him to choose. He desperately needed to find out where he was. He glanced back inside, grabbed a worn-out knife, and hid it underneath his shirt.
The rain made him shiver, and he could only grit his teeth and keep moving through the dark alley.
With every step he took, Nathan glanced around warily. It didn't feel good knowing that you were in danger but didn't know where it would come from.
"Help!"
His body froze as he looked around the corner. He saw two people tying down a person. Then one of them hit the victim in the head with a gun, making him fall silent.
"We need more!" one of the men spoke angrily as he kicked the victim.
"Hey! That's our merchandise! Do you want to face him?!" The other man couldn't help but be outraged, almost punching his colleague.
"Splash!"
Nathan's pupils shrank as he heard the sound behind him, but it was too late.
"God really loves me!" A man came up behind Nathan without him even noticing. He felt a cold touch on his back, and he didn't make any sudden moves.
"Who are you?" Nathan's voice was even unfamiliar to him.
The man didn't respond and gestured toward his companions, who had by now spotted them.
Nathan could only helplessly look as they surrounded him. Even if he was swift enough to stab one of them, the other would put a bullet in his head.
"Thud!"
He only felt a brief sensation on the back of his neck, then his consciousness slowly faded away.
'Am I going to die again?'
"Mhhmm!"
Nathan slowly opened his eyes and realized that he was strapped to an operating table. His eyes widened in terror. The shining light above him made him even more terrified.
"Don't worry… the pain will slowly go away." A doctor wearing all white spoke in a reassuring voice as he slowly moved his scalpel toward Nathan's belly.
His eyes bulged with rage as he watched the doctor.
'Fuck youuu!'
He couldn't help but shout in his mind.
He struggled to break free, but he was bound by steel handcuffs.
He could already see the doctor disinfecting his stomach. Nathan's gaze hardened, and when the doctor wasn't looking, he put all the pressure he could on his wrist.
"Crack!"
Even though the sound wasn't loud, the doctor still heard it and looked in shock at Nathan's right hand.
"How did you?!"
Before he could continue, Nathan grabbed the scalpel and inserted it directly into his throat.
"Grugl!"
Nathan watched as the man struggled and blood poured down from his throat. The light fading from his eyes made Nathan freeze, and something deep inside him felt joy.
'I can't hesitate!' He gritted his teeth and removed the cover over his mouth. 'That man was going to kill me! I had to do it!'
His phone vibrated, but he had no time to pay attention to it. He felt his heartbeat rising, and his palm was shaking and sweating heavily.
He ignored his body's disgust and looked for the keys. Suddenly, he looked down and saw a pair of keys around the doctor's waist.
When he reached out, he groaned in pain as his hand was still in a strange position. Just as he was about to grab them, his face trembled, and Nathan looked at the door.
"Is everything okay?"
His face paled as he watched the shadow getting closer to the door, and then the doorknob slowly began to turn.
