Just as the man was about to enter, Nathan turned on a cutting tool, and the sound made the man stop and slowly walk away.
"Sigh…" Nathan released a sigh of relief, then grabbed the keys and released his bindings.
He then looked over at his wrist. With his left hand, he grabbed it and twisted it back into place. Nathan gritted his teeth in pain but remained silent.
Nathan then went through the doctor's pockets. Unfortunately, there was nothing.
He grabbed a sharp scalpel from the table and slowly walked toward the door. He glanced into the hallway and saw only a shadow at the end of the corner.
He slowly twisted the doorknob and made his way out. Nathan tried to keep his breath as low as possible while he slowly approached the shadow.
When he glanced over, he saw a massive man, almost twice his size. If he wasn't injured, he felt he had a chance of taking him on.
Then he glanced at the gun on the man's side. Nathan gripped the scalpel harder, and he hesitated for a second.
Seeing that the man was about to turn around, a fierce light shone in his eyes. Then he lunged the scalpel straight into the back of his neck.
"What?!" the man shouted as he felt the pain. The adrenaline allowed him to turn and look back. Just as he was about to grab his gun, a punch came right into his nose.
Nathan used the time the man was in a daze from the punch and shoved the scalpel a few times into his throat.
"Thud!"
His face was splattered with blood, and a fierce glint flashed inside his eyes. The smell brought back his attention, and a ripple emerged in his heart, but he quickly suppressed it.
He quickly grabbed the gun, and for a moment he froze. Nathan hadn't even held a gun once throughout his life before. The only weapon he had was his own body.
Using his limited knowledge, he checked the safety and turned it off. He then went through the wallet of the dead body.
When he saw dollars, he didn't think much of it, but when he saw that the man's driver's license expired in 2010, he froze.
"That's odd.."
Not dwelling much on this, he threw the license away and kept the hundred dollars for himself.
Just as he was about to head out, he couldn't help but notice a newspaper on a table. When he read the date, his body shook. He couldn't believe what he saw.
"November / 2010?!"
He then remembered the man's driver's license, and all of a sudden everything clicked together.
"I-I'm not in my world anymore!" Nathan's voice trembled as he finally realized the hard truth.
"Hurry!"
Before he could calm down, he heard someone shouting and running toward him.
When the man spotted Nathan, he was shocked. Just as he was about to rush him, Nathan pointed his gun at him. The man trembled in fear, and then he heard a click.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Nathan looking at the gun in confusion. He smirked.
"You little shi..guh!"
Before he could finish, the gun flew straight into his face.
As the man struggled to get back up, Nathan approached him and took the gun from the ground.
The man grabbed his leg, and just as he was about to fight back, Nathan used the gun and delivered blow after blow to his head.
"I will survive!" he whispered to himself constantly, trying to calm down his trembling hand.
He then started running. He had no hope of staying hidden with all the noise that had just happened.
After running for a few minutes, he came to a large area, like a depot where trucks dropped their merchandise. When he saw the open space on the other side, his face brightened.
But the two guards made his joy vanish. He looked over to the side and made his way sneakily toward their backs.
"Hey, do you think that those children are enough?" the skinnier guard asked his companion.
"I don't care! I did my quota!" the other man grumbled and ignored his colleague. When he glanced back, his eyes saw a shadow. Before he could open his mouth, a sharp object entered his neck.
"What the fuck?!" the other man screamed in shock, but he quickly reached for his gun. Nathan only had time to kick him in the stomach.
"Bang!"
The shot echoed through the silent night. Fortunately for Nathan, he managed to change the man's direction.
Before the man could react, Nathan knocked him out cold. After taking their guns, he looked at the unconscious man, and his face struggled visibly.
But eventually, he turned around and ran away. He didn't know how long he ran. He just kept going. After what felt like an eternity, he stopped in front of a run-down building.
Nathan looked around, then swiftly made his way inside. After finding a room with a torn-down couch, he collapsed onto it.
Nathan couldn't move a muscle as the adrenaline that had kept pushing him to keep going was fading away. Then his eyes closed involuntarily.
When he opened his eyes, it was day outside. Just then, his phone vibrated constantly, and he looked over at the text.
