15 – Fu Chenyan: I Will Protect My Own
“I… I’m at the filming location.”
Her soft voice sounded, and Fu Chenyan unconsciously softened his own voice a few notches as he asked again, “Did you have fun?”
“Mm.” Sang Ran nodded.
“Send me the address. I’ll come pick you up.”
Sang Ran: “You don’t need to come pick me up. I can go back on my own.”
There was silence on the other end for two seconds, then he repeated, “Send me the address. I’ll come pick you up.”
“Fine.”
Sang Ran puffed out her cheeks in annoyance and hung up the phone, then sent Fu Chenyan the address, along with an angry pouting emoji.
Fu Chenyan looked at the emoji Sang Ran had sent, a trace of amusement flashing through his eyes as his finger tapped lightly on the soft, adorable expression.
“Is that… Fifth Master on the phone?”
Shen Yunge asked tentatively.
“Mm. He insists on coming to pick me up.”
Sang Ran pouted unhappily. Just as she was about to stuff her phone back into her pocket, Shen Yunge reached out and took her hand again.
“Ranran, if you don’t like it, you can just tell him not to come pick you up.”
Sang Ran shook her head. Did she dare say that? Fu Chenyan was such a wicked man—if she refused him, who knew how he’d bully her afterward.
The wicked man loved pinching her cheeks the most, and he used so much force that it hurt every single time.
Shen Yunge slowly released her fingers, a different emotion flickering in her eyes. She glanced at Sang Ran beside her, and for a moment, the look beneath her lashes turned sharp and fierce.
Sang Ran got up and stepped out of the small tent. Luo Jinghui had also just finished his work. The setting sun cast its afterglow upon him, warming the white shirt he wore with a soft golden light, making him look like a character straight out of a comic.
“Ranran, want me to walk you out?”
Sang Ran said, “Thanks, but no need. Someone will be coming to pick me up soon.”
Luo Jinghui took two steps closer and asked, “You didn’t hurt yourself falling during the games today, did you?”
“No. Thank you—if you hadn’t caught me, I probably would’ve fallen even harder.”
The lace-trimmed hat on Sang Ran’s head was slightly askew, and she pouted as she spoke, looking utterly adorable and cute.
Luo Jinghui suddenly laughed—a bright, sunny smile. He raised his hand slightly to brush away the stray hairs on Sang Ran’s forehead. Sang Ran looked up, staring at his face in a daze.
She was thinking—if only that wicked man Fu Chenyan could smile so beautifully, then she wouldn’t have to be so scared of him every single day.
When Fu Chenyan stepped out of the car, this was exactly what he saw. Under the fading light of the setting sun, a man and a woman stood facing each other, as picturesque as a painting.
His black pupils seemed tinged with ice, his brow slightly raised, and his overall demeanor suggested he was not in a good mood.
Li Yi quietly sidestepped a few paces away. Understandable—the CEO had left work early to pick up the young madam, only to find her standing with another man. No one would be in a good mood after seeing that.
“Ranran.”
The icy-cold voice made Sang Ran flinch. She slowly turned around, staring at the man’s tall figure for two seconds before immediately stepping back, nearly hiding behind Luo Jinghui.
As she made those movements, Fu Chenyan was already striding toward her. He was tall and imposing, his custom-made black suit perfectly pressed without a single wrinkle, and his face was one that could drive any woman wild.
Except Sang Ran.
Sang Ran tried to step back further, but suddenly a large hand wrapped around her waist. The next second, scorching breath brushed against her ear.
“Time to go home.”
Fu Chenyan bent down slightly, his face cold as frost. His grip was tight—Sang Ran couldn’t break free no matter how she struggled.
“I… I don’t want to go back.”
“Hm?”
Fu Chenyan lowered his gaze, his face like ice. Sang Ran trembled in fear. “I’ll go back.”
Fu Chenyan took Sang Ran’s wrist and stood opposite Luo Jinghui. His presence was overwhelmingly oppressive, giving off an air of looking down on everyone, as if no one else was worth his notice—and indeed, no one was.
It was Luo Jinghui’s first time truly meeting the legendary Fifth Master, the greatest business tycoon in the imperial capital. He seemed even more… commanding than he appeared on television or in print.
For the first time, Luo Jinghui doubted his own appearance.
“You are…”
“Luo Jinghui.”
Fu Chenyan gave a faint “Mm,” then said three more words: “Never heard of you.”
Luo Jinghui wasn’t particularly surprised. Why would a business magnate like him know a mere celebrity like Luo Jinghui?
The people around naturally noticed the sudden uninvited guest, but no one dared to approach him or strike up a conversation.
An invisible layer of frost seemed to shroud him, keeping everyone at a distance, making them afraid to come near or meet his eyes.
Sang Ran tugged at Fu Chenyan’s arm. He noticed the girl’s movement, lowered his eyelids slightly, and said coolly, “What is it?”
“He’s Luo Jinghui, the MC of this variety show. He’s really nice—he always helps me with the tasks…”
Sang Ran would have been better off not saying anything. The moment she did, Fu Chenyan’s expression turned even colder—gloomy, like dark clouds gathering, a gale howling, on the verge of a storm.
Sang Ran seemed to notice Fu Chenyan’s expression and subtly released her grip on his arm. The next second, she was scooped up horizontally into his arms.
Once again in that familiar embrace, Sang Ran’s fair arms instinctively wrapped around the man’s neck, her soft cheek pressed against his stiff suit jacket.
“Taking my wife home.”
Fu Chenyan’s deep, cold voice rang out, seemingly deliberately spoken for someone to hear. His dark, gloomy gaze swept over Luo Jinghui, filled with warning.
Luo Jinghui nodded and said, “She might have gotten hurt today. Go back and check her arm.”
Fu Chenyan: “No need for your concern. I’ll take responsibility for my own people.”
Fu Chenyan strode away with Sang Ran in his arms, walking quickly. Sang Ran held onto his neck.
Shen Yunge tidied her hair and spoke softly, “Fifth Master, I am Shen Yunge, the eldest daughter of the Shen family. We’ve met before, at the Fu family’s old residence. Do you remember?”
“I don’t remember.”
The icy voice carried not a trace of emotion.
Shen Yunge froze in place, stunned. She wanted to say more, but Fu Chenyan had already left with Sang Ran in his arms.
As for what that woman looked like, Fu Chenyan hadn’t even glanced at her. His eyes had been fixed on the doll-like figure in his arms the entire time.
“Were you hurt?”
Fu Chenyan asked with a furrowed brow.
“No.”
“No?”
Sang Ran shook her head again, her eyelashes trembling slightly. “Really, I’m not. I… I just fell during the game. It doesn’t hurt at all now.”
“Let me check when we get back.”
“No.”
Fu Chenyan gave her a cold, sidelong glance and said nothing more. He reached out and tucked her into the car.
Sang Ran took out her phone and sent a message to Sang Jinyu, saying she was heading back.
Perhaps Sang Jinyu was too busy, as he didn’t reply.
Fu Chenyan glanced at Sang Ran’s phone and asked coldly, “Who are you talking to? Luo Jinghui?”
Sang Ran looked up, confused. “No, I…”
“Do you like him?”
Fu Chenyan asked lightly, his narrow black eyes narrowing slightly.
