17 – I’m not interested in someone like you

Sang Ran clutched her clothes tightly, her voice still soft and gentle. “I… I really wasn’t injured.”

Fu Chenyan lowered his gaze. “Let me see.”

“Really, I wasn’t.”

Sang Ran’s hands gripped the fabric at her collar tightly. She was about to explain further when her body suddenly felt light as the man scooped her up again.

Fu Chenyan carried her upstairs, brought her into his own room, and gently set her down on the bed.

“No one’s here now. Can you show me?”

“No, no.”

Sang Ran shook her head and struggled violently, only to be pressed back down onto the bed by Fu Chenyan. Her body was soft—a single light push sent her falling backward.

Fu Chenyan propped one hand beside her, his entire body hovering over hers. Their eyes met, and Sang Ran seemed to catch a flicker of something else in his dark, icy gaze.

“Y-you… bad man. Don’t touch me.”

Sang Ran pushed weakly at the man above her with both hands. To him, it was no more than a tickle, but it was already the most strength she could muster.

Fu Chenyan’s eyes darkened slightly. He got off her, sat to the side, and said coldly, “I’m not touching you. I just want to check if you’re injured.”

If she were hurt, the Sang family wouldn’t let it go easily.

Sang Lin was also a headache-inducing presence.

Sang Ran furrowed her brow and muttered, “Then close your eyes.”

Fu Chenyan stared quietly at the doll-like girl beside him. After a moment, he said coldly, “If I close my eyes, how am I supposed to see if you’re injured? Besides, a little sprout like you—there’s nothing worth looking at anyway.”

“I’m not interested in your type.”

Sang Ran’s face flushed red with anger. She grabbed Fu Chenyan’s arm and bit down on it again. Even though she was terrified of this wicked man, even a rabbit would bite when cornered!

Fu Chenyan watched calmly as Sang Ran bit his wrist. The doll-like girl had such little strength that he felt nothing—less than a mosquito bite.

What an idiot. She couldn’t even bite properly?

“Had enough? Can you let me look now?”

His flat voice reached Sang Ran’s ears. She continued pushing at Fu Chenyan, eventually even using her head.

Fu Chenyan looked down at the fluffy head pressed against his chest, gently patted it, and the corner of his mouth curled up again.

“Done throwing your tantrum?”

“I… I don’t want to.”

Sang Ran placed both hands over her chest, watching Fu Chenyan warily. “I really wasn’t injured. I’m not lying to you. I just fell.”

“You fell on your arm. Take off the outer layer of your clothes.”

Fu Chenyan said this as casually as if he were commenting on the nice weather today, his tone completely flat.

Before Sang Ran could refuse, the top of her dress had already been peeled away by the man’s large hand, revealing her fair, jade-like shoulder.

She tried to stop him, but Fu Chenyan was quicker. Her right arm was already exposed.

She wore a white tube top underneath, the curve of her chest not insignificant, and below that, a waist so slender it seemed one hand could encircle it…

Fu Chenyan’s throat tightened unconsciously. He averted his gaze.

Sang Ran’s eyes welled up with mist, tears falling like pearls from the corners of her eyes. She pushed desperately at the man beside her with both hands. “Stay away from me… you… you wicked thing.”

Fu Chenyan firmly took her arm to examine it. Beneath her fair shoulder, there was a red mark on her arm—a large patch of redness that stood out starkly against her milky-white skin.

“How did this happen?”

Sang Ran’s emotions settled a little, because Fu Chenyan truly hadn’t done anything else—he’d only looked at her arm.

“I… I don’t know. Someone pushed me, and I fell.”

Fu Chenyan: “Clumsy fool.”

“Mm…” Sang Ran pouted in grievance, as if she’d suffered some tremendous injustice.

“Now you know it hurts? Why didn’t you say something earlier?”

Sang Ran felt even more wronged. She kept her lips pursed and said nothing, staring at her own feet.

Fu Chenyan brought up the medicine kit, poured out some medicinal wine, and gently dabbed it on her arm with a cotton swab. His expression was serious, as if handling something of great importance.

“Next time you get hurt, you must tell me right away. Otherwise, these wounds won’t heal properly and will leave scars. Do you want to carry such an ugly scar on your body?”

Sang Ran shook her head in fright, tears falling again. At the time, she’d been on the show’s set—what if her fault delayed the filming? That was her brother’s program.

Fu Chenyan emphasized again, “So remember: next time you’re hurt, you must tell me immediately.”

“Mm, I understand.”

Fu Chenyan continued applying medicine to Sang Ran. Her skin was very pale, the color of cream. When his cool fingertips touched her skin, a ripple passed through his calm gaze, and he immediately withdrew his hand.

In truth, Fu Chenyan had deliberately said that to scare Sang Ran. Her arm was only a minor scrape—it would never leave a scar.

“All done.”

Fu Chenyan tossed the cotton swab into the trash can. He stood up, putting some distance between himself and Sang Ran.

Sang Ran’s dress had been pulled down halfway, and she knelt on the gray bedsheet, her eyes shimmering with moisture, looking as if she had been tormented for a long time.

Fu Chenyan, in contrast, remained impeccably dressed, his black suit’s bow tie tied with precision, his trousers perfectly pressed without a single wrinkle.

Sang Ran grabbed the hem of his jacket with both hands.

Fu Chenyan lowered his gaze and asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”

Then, the doll on the bed suddenly threw herself into his arms, messing up his clothes and yanking his tie loose…

Fu Chenyan: “…?”

He laughed, his voice low, but Sang Ran heard it clearly. The next moment, her waist tightened as she was pulled into a cool, aloof embrace.

“Trying to seduce me?”

He deliberately whispered in the girl’s ear, a slight smile curling at his lips.

“You messed up my clothes, so I’m going to mess up yours too.”

Sang Ran lifted her head with an air of righteousness, arguing with the man.

Fu Chenyan: “…”

“That was to apply medicine for you. I told you I’m not… interested in someone like you.”

Sang Ran let out a soft “mm,” releasing her hands, but Fu Chenyan didn’t let go. She remained in his arms, her soft cheek pressed against his chest, clearly able to hear his heartbeat.

It seemed to be beating a little faster than hers.

“Let me go first.”

Something in Fu Chenyan’s eyes seemed to regain clarity. He abruptly released his grip, and Sang Ran fell straight onto the bed. If not for the bed behind her, she might have hit the floor.

“Ouch…”

Even though she had fallen onto the bed, Sang Ran let out a delicate cry. She had hurt her arm again.

“What’s wrong? Where did you hurt yourself?”

Fu Chenyan bent down to check, his large hands gripping the girl’s waist. As he moved, the strap on Sang Ran’s left shoulder slipped down, revealing a glimpse of pale white skin…

Fu Chenyan’s gaze lingered there for a few seconds, and before he could look away, two hands had already covered his eyes…
