1953.

Mid-winter, the twelfth lunar month. The cold wind was biting.

At the foot of Great Qiong Mountain, in Lihua Village.

The Su Family home, north of the village.

Su Youtian sat on the kang bed, a tobacco pipe dangling from his mouth, taking a puff every now and then.

Beside him, Grandma Su had a face full of sorrow. As she stitched a shoe sole, she sighed, “Jiu’er was already weak to begin with, and now she’s suffered such a great ordeal. We have to nourish her properly. It would be best to have her second uncle look for some connections and send back some malted milk.”

Unlike typical village old women who favored boys over girls, Grandma Su didn’t care much for her grandsons; she doted exclusively on her youngest granddaughter.

In these times, when every household was struggling even to find basic food, she was still thinking about getting malted milk for her granddaughter.

“Let her eldest uncle go to Hongye Village to trade for some goat milk. That should suffice for a few days at least,” Grandpa Su said, taking a puff and tapping his pipe against the kang.

In this day and age, let alone malted milk, having anything at all to eat was considered lucky.

The Su Family had many mouths to feed and insufficient grain reserves. If things continued like this, they might not even make it through next spring.

Compared to his granddaughter, he was more worried about the entire family’s food supply.

“Fine. As long as our darling girl doesn’t go hungry, anything will do.”

“Tell me, how can there be such a cold-hearted mother in this world? I’ve realized it now—that wife of our third son is a piece of work. Both the palm and the back of the hand are flesh, yet she could actually do something like that?”

At the mention of this, Grandma Su gritted her teeth in anger, wishing she could give the woman a sound thrashing.

If Feng Qiulian hadn’t intentionally left the little granddaughter out in the snow, and if the eldest son’s family hadn’t happened to see it when they got up in the middle of the night, this little granddaughter might have already frozen to death.

They say even a fierce tiger won’t eat its cubs, but this mother was truly heartless…

Just to save her breast milk for her younger son, she was willing to let her own daughter freeze to death.

“Let’s raise Jiu’er in our room from now on. Old woman, you’ll have to put in more effort to see her through until she’s grown.”

“You don’t need to tell me that. Jiu’er is my very life. From now on, even when I go to work the fields, I’ll take her with me every day!” Grandma Su said, shooting a glare at her husband.

At that moment, Su Jiu, wrapped in swaddling clothes, was staring with wide, round eyes. She was eavesdropping on their conversation while surveying her surroundings.

She, a magnificent Ancestor of the Cultivation World, had actually transmigrated into the body of a three-month-old infant after being struck by lightning during her Ascension Tribulation.

That’s right, the original soul was dead—frozen to death by her own biological mother.

This family was very poor; it seemed that even eating was a problem.

However, she could tell from the conversation that these two elders were quite good to her.

At the very least, her current safety was guaranteed.

Suddenly, a wave of warmth hit her lower half, followed by the smell of urine.

Realizing what had happened, Su Jiu burst into tears with a loud “Waaah!”

She was so embarrassed she wanted to crawl into a hole and hide.

She peed. She actually peed herself. She, a grand Ancestor, actually had a day where she wet her pants. If those old fogies back in the sect found out, they would probably laugh for a decade or two.

“Oh, my darling girl peed again…” Hearing the sound, Grandma Su leaned in to look and couldn’t help but chuckle.

This granddaughter of hers just loved being clean; she would surely grow up to be a beautiful girl.

Grandma Su nimbly changed her into a clean diaper.

The soiled one was placed on the kang basin to dry. Before long, the room was filled with the smell of urine.

Su Jiu, lying on the kang, felt like she was going to suffocate from the stench.

In the end, she could only choose to ignore it…

Gurgle~

Just after peeing, Su Jiu felt hungry…

Having been in Bigu for thousands of years, never touching common grains, this certain Ancestor was now experiencing the deep sting of hunger.

So hungry~

She remembered that she still had quite a few Bigu Pills stored in her Immortal Abode Space, but this body was too small; she didn’t know if it could handle them.

Thinking of the Immortal Abode Space, Su Jiu shifted her intent, and her Divine Sense entered the space.

Upon seeing everything inside, Su Jiu was stunned once more.

Along with the change in her body, even the Immortal Abode Space had shrunk a thousand-fold, returning to its most primitive state.

A patch of bare Spirit Field, a Spirit Spring, and a thatched hut.

Aside from those, everything else was sealed behind a translucent Barrier, appearing as a grey, hazy expanse.

Only after her Cultivation Base increased would the seals on the Immortal Abode Space be lifted layer by layer.

Gurgle~

A long growl came from her stomach, pulling Su Jiu’s Divine Sense back instantly.

At that moment, Grandma Su walked over, carrying milk she had forcibly demanded from Feng Qiulian.

Thinking about how reluctant the third son’s wife had been—as if giving up her milk was like giving up her life—Grandma Su let out a heavy sigh.

The third son’s wife had given birth to twins, which should have been a wonderful thing.

Unfortunately, in these times, even adults couldn’t get enough to eat, let alone feeding two small children.

It was all because of poverty…

“Sweet girl, come, Grandma will feed you. You won’t be hungry after you drink this…” Grandma Su picked Su Jiu up, used a small wooden spoon to dip into the milk, and fed her bit by bit.

A three-month-old baby should have been plump and fair.

But Feng Qiulian had always reserved her milk for her younger son. Only when the son was full would she be willing to give Su Jiu a sip.

Consequently, the tiny baby looked scrawny, lacking the roundness a three-month-old should have.

Fortunately, her little mouth was pink, and her features were delicate. One could tell at a glance that she was a natural beauty.

After finishing the milk, Su Jiu couldn’t resist the drowsiness and fell into a deep sleep.

Grandma Su stared at her precious granddaughter for a long time, liking her more the more she looked.

There was no need to wait until tomorrow; she immediately called out to the old man to go trade for goat milk for the granddaughter.

“Forget it, you stay home and look after our sweet girl. I’ll go with the eldest son myself,” Grandma Su decided, realizing that her granddaughter’s food supply was a matter of great importance.

Tucking away some money and taking some grain, Grandma Su and the eldest son, Su Xiangdong, braved the wind and snow to head out.

By the time Su Jiu woke up, it was already the middle of the night.

With her slight movement, Grandma Su, who had not long since fallen asleep beside her, was startled awake.

“Sweet girl, are you hungry? Grandma will go warm up the goat milk for you right now!” Grandma Su put on her clothes, opened the door, and went out.

A moment later, she came back in carrying a bowl of goat milk, bringing a gust of wind and snow with her.

Goat milk had a bit of a gamey smell.

Fearing Su Jiu wouldn’t like it, she had specifically boiled it and then kept it warm with temperate water.

It was just right now.

Eating upon waking and sleeping after eating—this was a common trait for all infants.

A full bowl of goat milk was fed into Su Jiu’s stomach.

Only then did she feel her stomach settle…

Under the dim light of the oil lamp, Grandma Su’s face looked exceptionally kind.

Grandma Su felt the diaper under her darling girl’s bottom; fortunately, it was dry.

She blew out the oil lamp and went back to bed to sleep.

In the dead of night, Su Jiu’s eyes were wide open, exceptionally alert.

The former cultivation powerhouse had now become a tiny baby waiting to be fed.

She tried to gather the surrounding Spiritual Qi…

Unfortunately, in this unique era, Spiritual Qi was scarce, so weak it was almost undetectable.

Fortunately, her Divine Sense was powerful. No matter how thin the Spiritual Qi was here, with the summary of her experiences from her previous life, even if she couldn’t reach her former heights, she could at least ensure her own protection in this strange place.

At all times, strength was paramount.

This body was only three months old; cultivation must start from infancy.

The first step of cultivation: Qi Induction.
