Qin Yue’e’s heart trembled violently, and her mind almost stopped working.
Damn this scumbag! Why does he have to be so handsome?!
What a waste of such a good-looking face. His heart was already rotten inside.
She shoved Huo Guangji hard and gritted her teeth.
“Let go of me!”
But he kept his lips tightly pressed together, his expression stubborn and determined.
“No!”
Seeing that sharply defined face getting closer and closer, Qin Yue’e’s heart began pounding wildly. The little deer inside her chest almost seemed ready to crash through it.
“Huo Guangji!!!!”
Fortunately, she regained her senses at the last moment and stopped him in time.
She forcefully pushed away the hand restraining her and ran out of the corner. She didn’t stop until she reached the doorway and was certain he couldn’t control her again.
“You… you bastard!!!”
For the first time, tears appeared in Qin Yue’e’s eyes.
When she first woke up after transmigrating and saw two tiny babies sitting in front of her, she hadn’t cried.
When she was so hungry that she was nearly fainting, yet still had to crawl and struggle forward on her knees for the sake of her children, she hadn’t cried.
Even when she ate tree leaves and bark for the first time in her life and ended up rolling around on the ground with terrible stomach pain, she still hadn’t cried.
But now, Huo Guangji was treating her like some kind of prize he had won, looking down at her as though he could control her whenever he wanted.
He could destroy the peaceful life she had worked so hard to build with the slightest move.
She couldn’t hold it in anymore.
Who gave him the right?
Who?!
Who gave this man the right to look down at her from such a high position?
Who gave him the right to casually overturn the life she had painstakingly built?
And who gave him the right to come and provoke her whenever he felt like it?
Qin Yue’e bit her lip tightly, barely holding back her tears. She hurriedly raised her head and stared at the smoke-blackened beams of the kitchen ceiling.
After enduring it for a long while, she finally spoke in a trembling voice.
“Huo Guangji, I don’t care what you want. But I’m telling you one thing: from now on, don’t come and bother me or the children for no reason!”
“I won’t give you these two children. They’re living, breathing human beings, not tools for you to use to please other women!”
Looking at the woman standing opposite him—an entire head shorter than him—trembling as she shouted those words, Huo Guangji couldn’t help frowning.
What other woman?!
He spent every day at the military unit. He hadn’t even seen a female rat, let alone another woman!
Suppressing the anger rising in his chest, Huo Guangji looked at Qin Yue’e’s tearful expression, and his voice softened considerably.
“What are you imagining again? What other woman are you talking about? I gave you all the money you asked for. I’ll find a way to get you the rest!”
For some reason, the usually decisive and no-nonsense Captain Huo only felt deeply helpless whenever he dealt with this woman.
The two of them remained locked in a standoff for a while.
Finally, Huo Guangji sighed.
“If you don’t want me coming back, then I’ll move back to the dormitory for the next few days. You’ve been busy all morning. I’ll take the three of you back.”
Both of them were too emotional at the moment. Continuing the conversation would accomplish nothing.
Perhaps they could talk again after they had both calmed down.
Qin Yue’e said nothing.
She simply let Huo Guangji carry the two children and pick up her things as he followed closely behind her.
Unlike Qingfeng, who was only interested in sucking on the candy in his mouth, Xiaozhuyue was much more observant.
Her little eyes darted around before she suddenly leaned toward Huo Guangji’s ear and whispered,
“Daddy, are you trying to kiss Mommy?”
“?”
Huo Guangji froze.
Seeing the mischievous grin on the little girl’s face, his heart softened.
“Who taught you that?”
“I saw Dandan’s mommy and daddy kissing before. Dandan said when parents kiss, it’s because they’re going to give him a little sister.”
She tilted her head.
“Daddy, do you want to have another baby with Mommy?”
Huo Guangji raised an eyebrow.
What a clever little girl.
“Hmm. Do you have any good ideas?”
Xiaozhuyue immediately became excited.
She cupped her tiny hands around her mouth like a megaphone, leaned toward Huo Guangji’s ear, and whispered mysteriously,
“I heard Dandan’s mommy say that a man has to stay at home more.”
“Look at Mommy. Why doesn’t she want to have another baby with you? It’s because you weren’t home before!”
“You little rascal!”
Huo Guangji couldn’t help lightly tapping her soft forehead.
“Daddy had missions to take care of back then. Isn’t Daddy home now?”
“Then Mommy has a grudge in her heart!”
The little girl folded her arms and shook her head like a tiny adult.
“If you ask me, you need to give Mommy some presents. Pretty things, yummy things! Make Mommy happy, and then she’ll naturally want to have another baby with you!”
“Those yummy things are probably what you want to eat!”
Huo Guangji couldn’t resist exposing the little girl’s true intentions.
Still, he had to admit that his daughter’s words made sense.
He hadn’t been home for the past few years, and it was obvious Qin Yue’e had suffered quite a lot.
Huo Guangji thought about it.
He really should make it up to her.
But what should he give her?
That was something he wasn’t very good at.
He racked his brain but couldn’t think of anything that would actually make Qin Yue’e happy.
In the past, whenever their unit had to formulate battle plans, all the squad leaders would gather together and discuss them.
Huo Guangji figured that choosing a gift could be handled the same way.
He could go back and ask the others for ideas.
After all, several heads were better than one.
As they talked, they had already arrived at the guesthouse.
Qin Yue’e opened the door, but the moment she turned around, she blocked Huo Guangji from entering.
She reached out and took the children from him.
The meaning couldn’t have been clearer.
She was blatantly telling him to leave.
Huo Guangji had no choice but to sigh and close the door behind him.
Only after he had walked far away did Qin Yue’e turn toward the little girl and glare at her.
“What were you talking about with your daddy?”
Xiaozhuyue’s mind worked quickly.
She immediately put on an innocent, flattering smile.
“I told Daddy to cut some grass for my little rabbit! The rabbit is hungry and wants to eat grass.”
Qin Yue’e couldn’t be bothered to argue with a child.
“You just need some grass. Why do you need him for that? I’ll go!”
She told the two little ones to stay home and sleep while she carried a basket outside.
There were forests and grassy areas all around the military unit, with all kinds of grass growing everywhere. It was the perfect place to gather food for the rabbits.
The two children loved their little rabbits, so every day after work, Qin Yue’e would go outside to cut some fresh grass for them.
After a few swings of the sickle, she had already filled half the basket.
Qin Yue’e was carrying the basket back when she happened to run into Aunt Liu, who was coming to deliver something.
“Xiao Qin! There you are!”
Aunt Liu called out from a distance.
She was carrying some bean cakes, which she immediately stuffed into Qin Yue’e’s hands for the children.
But she couldn’t resist asking,
“How did it go? Xiao Qin, you and Xiao Huo…?”
Aunt Liu could tell that something wasn’t right between the two of them, and Qin Yue’e knew exactly what she was asking.
Since they worked together, there wasn’t much reason to hide it.
Qin Yue’e simply shook her head.
“Forget it. Right now, I just want to raise my two children well.”
Aunt Liu frowned.
Judging by her expression, things clearly hadn’t gone well.
She couldn’t help wondering how Captain Huo could have such a stubborn, wooden head. What on earth was he thinking?
Wanting to cheer Qin Yue’e up, she immediately said,
“Xiao Qin, don’t think about it anymore. Come with me to the mountain and the market! Bring the children along and have some fun. It’ll help you feel better!”
