“With so many of you, how did you let him get away again?” Eleven demanded furiously.
Palace Guard Fourteen glanced at the large group behind Eleven and turned to run forward. “We’ll talk while we go!”
By the time they caught up with Gu Qingyun, Eleven had also finished hearing the entire story of Palace Guard Fourteen and the others pursuing the Egg Thief.
“No, we have to tell master. If we make even the slightest mistake, we could easily ruin everything.”
Eleven took out a mechanism bird, briefly wrote down what Palace Guard Fourteen had said earlier, stuffed the paper into the mechanism bird’s abdomen, and twisted the mechanism on its leg. The mechanism bird flapped its wings and flew toward the temporary palace.
“All right, master should be coming soon. Once master arrives, things will be much simpler.” Eleven had originally not wanted to disturb master’s rest either, but this concerned master’s companion beast. Right now, the companion beast had even mistaken the enemy for its mother, and its life was in the Egg Thief’s hands. They had no choice but to ask master to step in.
Gong Shiyi raised his eyes and glanced at the young woman resting against the tree ahead, then shifted his gaze to the little fellow in her arms.
Tsk, tsk. As expected of master’s companion beast—it had been born in human form.
Generally speaking, profound beast eggs hatch into beast forms, and Divine Beasts also mostly hatch in beast form. Only a very small number of top-tier Divine Beasts with exceptionally pure and noble bloodlines can possibly be born in human form.
On this continent, where Profound Qi was so scarce, no human-form young beast had ever been heard of.
This also meant that this Little Divine Beast possessed limitless potential.
Unfortunately, was the Little Divine Beast stupid? Why had it mistaken the enemy for its mother?
Gong Shiyi glanced at the Little Milk Bun sleeping curled up in the young woman’s arms. Its little mouth smacked twice from time to time, blowing out tiny bubbles.
If he had not seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed this was their master’s companion beast. It was completely just a human infant!
Suddenly, Gong Shiyi sensed the aura around him change, and a cool fragrance swept over him.
“Master.” He straightened himself and looked toward the vile monster of a handsome man who had silently appeared behind him.
Gong Yunxu gazed from afar at the tree ahead. Fine ripples stirred in his charming peach blossom eyes. “So it’s the Little Wildcat.”
The Little Wildcat?
“Master, you know her?” Gong Shiyi turned to glance at the young woman beneath the tree.
On closer inspection, she did indeed seem somewhat familiar.
Gong Jiu exclaimed softly, “She’s the Miss who broke into Lingyin Pool!”
Everyone else widened their eyes upon hearing this.
It was her?
That woman who had maintained an ambiguous relationship with master, slapped master across the face, and then vanished without a trace?
“Gong Jiu, I had no idea your memory had become so good.” Gong Yunxu cast him a half-smiling, half-mocking glance.
Gong Jiu shuddered. Hadn’t he just exposed master’s old wound?
He lowered his head and fell silent, not daring to say another word.
Gong Yunxu stared at him for a long while, watching until the man was nearly driven to a mental breakdown, before disdainfully looking away. “All of you, disperse.”
“Yes!”
The Palace Guards scattered like startled birds and beasts. In the blink of an eye, only Gong Yunxu remained nearby.
He lightly brushed his sleeve, causing an invisible barrier to vanish from before his eyes, then leisurely walked over to Gu Qingyun.
The Little Milk Bun lying in her arms opened its eyes warily. A sharp and fierce glint flashed through its dark eyes and vanished in an instant.
Gong Yunxu curved his lips in a silent smile, waved his hand, and scattered something. The Little Milk Bun fell into a deep sleep.
Gu Qingyun’s eyelids twitched, and then she fell into a deep sleep.
……
Gu Qingyun felt something rebelling on her face. She opened her eyes impatiently, and the snow-white ceiling of a bed came into view.
She froze as the memories from before she fell asleep surged into her mind.
Gu Qingyun’s expression changed at once, and she turned over and sat up.
However, she did not manage to turn over successfully. Something was pressing down on her.
Gu Qingyun merely turned onto her side, and a stretch of smooth, fair skin appeared in her field of vision.
