Having always sailed smoothly through life, Wen Yuan still vaguely felt something wasn’t quite right about Huo Shengye agreeing to marry her so readily.

But thinking of her parents, her brother, her elderly grandparents, and the scene of everyone gathering for the New Year’s Eve dinner, Wen Yuan pursed her lips and nodded firmly: “Alright! Of course I have no objections! I, I brought my documents with me…”

A habit leftover from studying abroad, Wen Yuan always carried her important documents, some cash, a gold ring, and a K-country flag whenever she went out.Full novel: The Alluring Darling: After a Flash Marriage, the Tycoon Magnate Humbly Dotes on Her — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

At this moment, her ID card, her page from the household register, and even her passport were all in her bag.

However, the Civil Affairs Bureau in the capital only opened at 2 PM, and it was just 1 PM after lunch.

Driving there would be too early, and that area was also quite sunny. Huo Shengye suggested going downstairs to sit for a while; there was an indoor garden below, quite cool, just like a post-meal stroll.

Wen Yuan had no objections, but just as they reached the first floor, Huo Shengye received a phone call, excused himself, and left, telling her to wait for him downstairs and that he would return soon.

For such busy people, “soon” usually wasn’t quick. Wen Yuan didn’t hold much hope either; she just wanted him to come back and marry her.

But unexpectedly, as she followed the signs toward the indoor garden, someone called out to her.

The familiar voice made Wen Yuan’s eyelids twitch. She didn’t turn back, but Shao Feng called her again from behind, “Yuan Yuan!”

Wen Yuan frowned and sped up her pace, pretending not to hear.

She was a slow-to-warm-up person. The near-miss of being molested as a child had left her with a strong aversion to unfamiliar men.

As she grew older, this evolved into difficulty in giving her heart away. Over the years, many had pursued her, but she had only dated one person—Shao Feng.

Shao Feng had pursued her since freshman year, chasing her for two whole years.

During those two years, he was gentle, polite, and considerate. She thought that after two years, he shouldn’t be a scumbag, and it shouldn’t be all fake.

But reality gave her a harsh slap; he was utterly scummy, too good at pretending.

Recalling that day when Huo Lei used Shao Feng’s phone to send her a WeChat message, saying Shao Feng had invited her for dinner and prepared a surprise.

When she arrived, she witnessed the two engaged in a live play scene in Shao Feng’s living room… Wen Yuan felt a wave of nausea.

Having just eaten lunch, she really didn’t want to confront such a person face-to-face, so she quickened her pace again.

But unexpectedly, Shao Feng shamelessly chased after her, “Yuan Yuan, it really wasn’t me cheating; Huo Lei seduced me!”

“What difference does it make?” Wen Yuan laughed angrily. Having just eaten, she couldn’t walk too fast, so she stopped.

Later, Shao Feng called many times, but she never gave him a chance to speak.

Now that she would soon become someone else’s wife, Wen Yuan felt it was indeed time to properly clarify things with Shao Feng to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.

Even though she couldn’t understand why Shao Feng, already with Huo Lei, still came to explain that it wasn’t him cheating but Huo Lei seducing him.

But that wasn’t important either, because it was also understandable—normal people not understanding abnormal people was quite normal.

“Shao Feng,” Wen Yuan met the young man’s eyes before her, “We have no chance anymore. I think I’ve made it very clear.”

“Let’s just end it peacefully, alright? Don’t harass me anymore.”

After Wen Yuan finished speaking, she thought Shao Feng would leave, but unexpectedly, the person before her suddenly laughed, starting softly, then turning into a loud, mocking laugh.

Wen Yuan slightly furrowed her brows. Shao Feng took two steps forward, looking down at her with undisguised mockery curling at the corner of his mouth.

“Wen Yuan, don’t tell me you actually thought I liked you? I was only after the Wen family’s money tree from the start.”

“But now that the Huo family is entering the tourism industry, how much longer can the Wen family hold on?”

“And honestly, you’re way too reserved. Four years, and all I’ve ever touched is your hand—you wouldn’t even let me touch your hair.”

Shao Feng reached out, using his height to his advantage, about to touch Wen Yuan’s hair. Her face stiffened for a moment, disbelief washing over her.

Then she felt it was utterly absurd and laughable. Two years of pursuit, nearly two years of dating—and in his eyes, it was all just about money!

No wonder he knew Huo Lei didn’t get along with her and often bullied her, yet he still hooked up with Huo Lei—simply because she was the daughter of a wealthy family.

In the middle of June, Wen Yuan was so angry she felt cold all over, trembling. She raised her hand to slap him.

Shao Feng sneered and reached out, about to grab her wrist—when suddenly, a powerful force struck—

Thud!!

“Ah! Ouch—! Who the hell hit me?!”

The tall man in front of her collapsed instantly, slammed heavily to the ground, half his body crashing against the wall with a loud bang.

It happened too suddenly. Wen Yuan stood frozen in place, and when she finally snapped back to reality and looked up, Huo Shengye walked over, dressed in a business suit.

As he walked, he took off his suit jacket and handed it to a man in black following behind him. With one hand, he undid a button, adjusted the collar of his white shirt, revealing a sexy V-shaped area.

“Miss Wen, are you alright?” As he approached, his gaze swept over her from head to toe.

Then he raised his hand slightly, his thumb gently brushing against the corner of her eye.

Wen Yuan parted her lips slightly, wanting to say she was fine, but for a moment, no words came out.

So this was what real heartbreak felt like—a sour, aching feeling in her heart, as if needles were pricking it. It hurt so much.

Feeling the warm, slightly cool liquid, Huo Shengye’s expression visibly darkened.

Turning slightly, the man spoke in short, ice-cold words, “Hit him.”

Holding the red marriage certificate in her hand, Wen Yuan felt it was all too unbelievable—a day that was both terrible and oddly comforting.

The car stopped in front of the Wen family villa. Wen Yuan was about to get out when she remembered something and turned to Huo Shengye, saying, “Thank you, Mr. Huo.”

After speaking, she reached for the door handle, but before she could open it, Huo Shengye’s hand covered hers.

Huo Shengye’s hand was much larger than hers, and his fingertips… were rough, warm, and his palm was scorching hot.

Wen Yuan’s ears flushed slightly red as she turned to look at him. “Mr. Huo?”

“Miss Wen said you’re very obedient, very well-behaved,” Huo Shengye said.

This was indeed something Wen Yuan had said, so she could only nod. “That’s right.”

“So…” Huo Shengye pointed to his cheek. “Shouldn’t there be a goodbye kiss?”

Wen Yuan widened her eyes slightly: “”

“What, just after getting the certificate, and you’re already denying it? Miss Wen is really too…”

Before she could react, Wen Yuan planted a kiss on Huo Shengye’s cheek—light and gentle, like a feather.

Just from that kiss, her face flushed bright red, and her ears turned crimson too.

Huo Shengye’s pupils dilated slightly. There was plenty of time ahead—no need to rush.

“Go on. The car’s chassis is high, take your time getting down and be careful,” he said, releasing her hand.

Wen Yuan got out of the car, closed the door, and stood at the entrance of the Wen family villa, waving to Huo Shengye. From the shape of her lips, she seemed to be saying “bye-bye.”

Huo Shengye’s lips curved slightly as he watched Wen Yuan enter the courtyard. Then he turned to Lu Ming in the passenger seat and asked, “How’s Shao Feng doing?”

Lu Ming: “Reporting back, Huo Shengye. As you instructed, we specifically targeted internal injuries, ensuring it won’t affect the upcoming engagement ceremony.”

“That’s good.” After speaking, Huo Shengye turned his gaze back toward the Wen family villa. Spotting Wen Yuan’s small figure appearing upstairs, he finally withdrew his line of sight and instructed the driver to head back home.
