The two of them eventually entered the theater and found their seats near the middle of the room.
Ren sat back comfortably, holding his drink in one hand while the bucket of popcorn rested between them.
The lights slowly dimmed.
Then the movie began.
For the first few minutes, Ren actually paid attention.
The main characters met.
They talked.
There was some dramatic music.
Then came the awkward romantic tension.
Ren’s expression slowly became blank.
‘Yep…
it’s one of those movies.’
He grabbed some popcorn and continued watching anyway.
Beside him, Akeno seemed much more invested.
She watched the screen quietly, occasionally smiling whenever something romantic happened.
Ren glanced at her before returning his attention to the movie.
Another twenty minutes passed.
He was starting to regret his decision.
‘I could’ve been watching an action movie right now.’
On screen, the main characters were having another emotional conversation.
Ren took a sip of his drink.
Then another.
Eventually, he simply leaned back in his seat and relaxed.
He wasn’t really watching anymore, just enjoying the quiet atmosphere.
Every now and then, Akeno would reach into the popcorn bucket.
Their hands occasionally bumped against each other.
Neither said anything about it.
Eventually, Akeno quietly leaned her head against his shoulder.
Ren glanced down at her.
She was still watching the movie with a small smile on her face.
He didn’t move.
So the two simply remained like that for the rest of the movie, sitting together in the dark theater while the story played out on the screen.
‘I really wanted to watch the Deadpool movie,’ he thought.
Unfortunately, he had made his choice.
And now he had to live with it.
After the movie ended, the lights came back on and the theater slowly filled with people leaving their seats.
Ren stretched his arms before standing, looking about as interested in the movie as he had been when it started.
Akeno, however, seemed perfectly relaxed.
She still had her arm wrapped around his as they left the theater, casually walking beside him while the crowd spilled out onto the sidewalk.
Standing in the middle of the city, Ren let out a small sigh.
“You want something to eat?”
“Sure, I was starting to get hungry,” she said.
“Alright, let’s go McDonald’s.
I like the fries there.”
Akeno nodded.
“I’m more of a nugget person, but sure.”
“Okay…”
They eventually made their way to the nearest McDonald’s and ordered some lunch.
Of course…Ren made Akeno pay.
Unlike many others, it did not pain him in the slightest to see a woman pay for his food.
He sat there perfectly comfortable while she paid for both of them.
‘Bare minimum, by the way,’ he thought.
Once they got their food, the two found a table and sat together, eating while casually talking about the movie they’d just watched.
The conversation quickly turned into them discussing how terrible it actually was.
“So you hated it as well?” Ren asked while eating some fries.
“Of course.”
Akeno took another bite of her nuggets before smiling mischievously.
“If there was a bit of S&M, maybe I would’ve enjoyed it.”
Ren slowly stopped chewing.
He looked at her.
“…”
Akeno grinned.
“I’ll act like I didn’t hear that.” Ren took another bite of his burger.
“But damn.”
He shook his head slightly.
“I figured that since you’re a girl, you’d like that kind of stuff.”
Akeno laughed softly.
“I am.” She casually took another nugget.
“It’s just too vanilla for me.”
“Okay…” Ren slowly lowered his head and bit into his burger again.
‘Freaky.’ He stared at his food for a moment.
‘How did Issei manage to fumble?
Not cracking her is a question I ask myself daily.’
We he’d take her since Issei couldn’t handle all of that anyway.
The conversation continued naturally as they ate, with neither of them in any particular hurry to leave.
“So, Ren-kun,” Akeno said while sipping her drink, “what do you usually do on weekends?”
“Nothing much.” Ren grabbed another fry.
“I sleep, play games, walk around, and occasionally watch a movie.”
“That sounds rather boring.”
“It is.” He nodded without hesitation.
Akeno smiled.
“To touch some grass?”
Ren paused.
“…How did you know?”
She laughed softly.
“You said it yourself earlier.”
“Oh.”
Ren continued eating as though the conversation had never been interrupted.
“And what about you?” he asked.
“What do you normally do?”
Akeno thought about it for a moment.
“I spend time with Rias, help around the church, visit shrines occasionally, and take care of various errands.”
“Sounds more productive than mine.”
“I wouldn’t say that.”She smiled.
“Sometimes doing nothing is nice.”
Ren nodded.
“Exactly.”
For a while, they simply ate in comfortable silence.
Then Akeno suddenly looked at him.
“You’re actually quite different from how I expected you to be.”
Ren raised an eyebrow.
“How did you expect me to be?”
“More serious.” She tilted her head slightly.
” You always seem so calm at school.
Almost like nothing really bothers you.”
“Most things don’t.”
“Even when people annoy you?”
“It depends”
“On what?”
“How annoying they are.”
Akeno laughed.
“I see.” She rested her chin against her hand.
“You’re quite interesting, Ren-kun.”
“Thanks.” He reached for another fry.
“I think.”
Akeno smiled again.
The conversation continued from there, jumping between school, movies, food, hobbies, and random things that didn’t really matter.
They talked about teachers they disliked, students who acted strangely, places around Kuoh they wanted to visit, and even which foods they preferred.
At some point, they completely forgot about the time.
Neither of them noticed how quickly the afternoon was passing.
For Ren, it was surprisingly relaxing.
He was simply sitting across from a beautiful girl, eating cheap fast food and enjoying a completely normal conversation.
Honestly, this was something he could get used to this.
After finishing their food, the two eventually left McDonald’s and stepped back outside.
The afternoon sun was still high in the sky, though the heat had started to fade as a cool breeze moved through the streets.
Akeno casually linked her arm with Ren’s again.
“So, where are we going now?”
Ren looked around.
“I don’t know.”
“You planned the date though”
“I only planned the movie.”
“You also planned the food.”she added.
“Well then, I think that’s enough planning for one day.” He quickly said.
Akeno laughed.
“You’re really something, Ren-kun.”
They continued walking through the shopping district without any real destination.
Ren occasionally stopped to look through store windows while Akeno pointed out things that caught her attention.
Eventually, they passed an arcade.
Ren stopped.
Akeno noticed immediately.
“Oh?”
Ren looked through the glass doors at the rows of arcade machines inside.
“Let’s go.”
Akeno smiled.
“I thought you said you weren’t interested in games today.”
“I lied.”
He walked inside.
The arcade was filled with flashing lights, music, and the sounds of machines going off.
A few students from Kuoh Academy were already inside, but Ren didn’t pay much attention to them.
Akeno followed him toward one of the machines.
“What are we playing?”
“Something competitive.”
“Competitive?”
Ren glanced at her.
“Unless you’re scared, of course.
” teasingly.
Akeno’s eyes narrowed playfully.
“Maybe,” he shrugged.
She smiled.”Then I accept.”
A few minutes later, the two were standing side by side at a fighting game.
Ren picked a character at random.
Akeno did the same.
The match started.
Within thirty seconds…Akeno’s character was completely destroyed.
She stared at the screen.
“…”
Ren calmly pressed another button.
KO.
He looked at her.
“Good game.”
Akeno slowly turned toward him.
“You didn’t even let me play.”
“I did.”
“You destroyed me.”
“That’s part of the game.
Don’t hate the player hate the game.
As they say”
She narrowed her eyes, she wasn’t a fan of his cockyness or something.
I don’t think that’s a word.
If it is.
I spelled it wrong.
“Again.”
Ren smiled.
“Sure.”
The second match lasted longer.
Mostly because Ren deliberately held back.
Akeno still lost.
“Again.”
” I didn’t know you were competitive.”
“Shut up and let’s play again.”
Ren laughed.
“Alright.”
They continued playing for several more rounds, with Akeno becoming increasingly determined to defeat him while Ren found the whole thing more entertaining than he expected.
Eventually, after several losses, Akeno finally managed to win one round.
Her face immediately lit up.
“I won!”
Ren stared at the screen.”…You actually did.”
Akeno raised her fist triumphantly.
“Don’t sound so surprised.”
“I’m impressed.”
She smiled proudly.
“Maybe I’m getting better.”
“Or maybe I stopped trying.”
Akeno’s smile disappeared.
“…Ren-kun.”
He laughed.
“I’m joking.”
She lightly hit his arm.
“You’re so mean.”
The two eventually left the arcade, still laughing about the matches.
They continued walking through Kuoh Town afterward, stopping at a few shops along the way.
Akeno bought a small dessert while Ren somehow convinced her to buy him another drink.
By the time they reached the park again, the sun was beginning to set.
The sky had turned orange and pink, while the streets slowly began filling with the warm glow of streetlights.
Akeno looked toward the sunset.
“It’s beautiful.”
Ren looked at the sky for a moment.
“Yeah.”
Then he glanced at her.
“Today was pretty fun.”
Akeno smiled, ” Yes it really was.” She looked at him with a teasing expression.
“Even the movie?”
Hw quickly responded”I think we can all agree that, that part was terrible.”
She laughed.
“But everything else was fine.”
“Just fine?”
“Very fine then!” Akeno smiled warmly before resting her head lightly against his shoulder as they continued walking.
‘ They don’t understand the things I say on Twitter ‘ he thought.
