After that, Ren and Akeno went their separate ways, having enjoyed a nice Saturday date together.

It had been surprisingly fun.

For once, Ren had spent an entire day doing completely normal teenager things without having to worry about Devils, Fallen Angels, or someone trying to kill him.Full novel: The Almighty. — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

On his way back home through his neighborhood, Ren walked casually with both hands inside his pockets, not a care in the world.

The evening air was cool, and the streets were relatively quiet.

Most people were already heading home, while the occasional car passed by on the road.

Ren was simply enjoying the peaceful walk.

Until he suddenly spotted two familiar people.

Rias and Kiba.

The two were walking out of a house together.

Ren stopped.

Rias and Kiba stopped as well.

For a few seconds…nobody said anything.

One side immediately panicked.

The other simply stared.

Ren’s eyes moved from Kiba, then to Rias.

A slow grin appeared across his face.

“I didn’t know you guys were in that kind of relationship.”

Rias immediately raised both hands and began waving them frantically.

“No, no, no, no!

It’s not like that!” Her face had already started turning red.

“We were just…” She quickly glanced toward Kiba.

“…looking for ghosts.”

“Right, Kiba?”

Kiba recovered almost instantly, maintaining his usual calm smile.

“Yes.”

He nodded confidently.

“We heard this place was haunted and decided to check it out.” He gestured toward the house behind them.

“Remember, we’re in the Occult Research Club.”

Ren stared at them for another moment.

There was something suspicious about the entire situation.

Very suspicious.

But honestly…He couldn’t be bothered.

“Oh yeah.” He nodded.

“That’s true, I guess.”

Rias visibly relaxed.

“Well then.

See you guys Monday.”

Ren simply continued walking, not bothering to ask any more questions.

As he passed them, however, he briefly turned his head.

His eyes met Rias’s.

For a second, neither of them said anything.

Ren gave her a small wink.

Rias’s face immediately turned bright red.

She quickly looked away, pretending nothing had happened.

Ren continued walking down the street, eventually disappearing around the corner.

The moment he was gone. Both Rias and Kiba released a long sigh of relief.

“We should have teleported,” Rias said, rubbing her forehead.

“Yes, we should have,” Kiba replied calmly.

“But at least he didn’t see anything.”

Rias glanced back toward the house.

“Let’s head back.” She paused for a moment.

“I’m interested in knowing where Akeno has been the whole day.”

A mischievous smile slowly appeared on her face.

Kiba looked at her.

‘ President really is scary sometimes’ he thought.

A magic circle suddenly appeared beneath their feet, glowing with crimson light.

“Let’s go find out.”

The next second…Both figures vanished from the street, leaving the quiet neighborhood behind.

Ren arrived at home, finding his parents sitting together on the living room couch, watching a movie.

The television filled the room with soft voices and music while a bowl of snacks sat between them on the coffee table.

Junko noticed him first.

How was your day?”

“Great.” Ren kicked his shoes off before stretching his arms slightly.

“I’m tired though.

So I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow.”

Before either of them could say anything else, he quickly headed toward the stairs.

Junko watched him disappear upstairs.

“…That was quick.”

Kisuke, his father, laughed quietly.

“He was definitely with a girl.”

Junko immediately turned toward him.

“Huh?

How can you tell?”

Kisuke leaned back against the couch with a knowing smile.

“Well, after every date with you, I always found myself tired for no reason.”

Junko stared at him.

“Probably because you were always nagging.”

He chuckled.

Junko’s expression immediately changed.

Her eyes narrowed before she began pouting like an offended teenager.

“Excuse me?”

Kisuke burst out laughing.

The two continued bickering while Ren quietly disappeared upstairs.

Despite being married for years, they still acted like they were in their twenties.

Some things apparently never changed.

Upstairs, Ren entered his room and closed the door behind him.

He dropped onto his bed and stared at the ceiling.

Walking around town with Akeno.

It had been a pretty good Saturday.

“Not bad,” he thought before closing his eyes.

…..

On Monday, Ren went to school yet again.

Very much annoyed.

But what could he do?

Skip?

The outside world wasn’t exactly that interesting either, so after spending a few extra minutes staring at his ceiling that morning, he eventually dragged himself to school.

When he arrived, the academy was still relatively quiet.

Most students hadn’t arrived yet, leaving the hallways peaceful compared to how chaotic they would become later in the morning.

Ren walked through the corridors with his usual lazy expression, his hands tucked inside his pockets.

‘I should go see Souna.’ He hadn’t really spoken to her properly since their little bet.

‘Wonder how she’s been since that happened.’

With that thought, Ren changed direction and headed toward the Student Council office.

A few minutes later, he arrived.

He opened the door without bothering to knock.

Inside, Souna was sitting behind a desk, carefully writing something down.

Judging by the stack of papers surrounding her.

It looked like schoolwork.

Ren immediately lost interest.

“Yo.”

Souna’s pen stopped. She slowly raised her head.

The moment she saw him standing there, a faint blush appeared across her cheeks.

“Oh, Ren.” She adjusted her glasses nervously.

“H-h-how are you?”

Ren raised an eyebrow at the stuttering.

“I’m alright.” He walked over and casually sat on the edge of her desk.

“How about you?”

“I am great.”

Souna quickly straightened her posture, trying her best to regain her usual composed expression.

“Umm…

what brings you here?”

Ren looked around the empty office.

“I’m bored, so I decided to come be bored with you.”

His eyes shifted toward the mountain of papers in front of her.

“Seems you’re busy though, so I’ll come back la—”

Before he could finish.

Souna immediately pushed all the papers to the side.

“Oh, this isn’t important.” She smiled.

“I have time.”

Ren looked at the papers.

Then at her.

“…Sure.” A small smile appeared on his face.

“Cool.”

He casually moved closer before sitting beside her on the same chair.

Souna stiffened slightly at the sudden closeness.

Ren simply wrapped an arm around her waist as though it were completely normal.

“So…”He looked at her.

“How was your weekend?”

Souna’s expression became slightly awkward.

Her mind immediately returned to Friday.

The kiss.

The way he’d simply walked away afterward.

And the entire weekend she’d spent wondering what exactly that meant.

Were they dating?

Was it just something Ren had casually done?

Was she supposed to ask?

She had thought about it far more than she wanted to admit.

But she certainly wasn’t going to tell him that.

“It was…

okay.” She adjusted her glasses.

“Didn’t do much.”

“Same.” Ren leaned back comfortably.

“I mostly walked around.”

He glanced toward the empty seat nearby.

“Where’s Tsubaki?

Seems like she’s not here today.”

Souna’s smile became slightly stiff.

“She’s…

visiting.”

That was technically true.

Tsubaki, along with the rest of Souna’s peerage, was currently somewhere in the Underworld.

They were helping arrange a Rating Game with another noble family.

Something Souna obviously couldn’t explain to Ren, at least, not yet.

“Visiting?”

“Yes.”

Souna nodded quickly.

“She had some personal matters to attend to.”

Ren stared at her for a moment.

The Almighty already told him exactly where Tsubaki was.

He knew she was in the Underworld.

He knew exactly what she was doing.

But there was no reason to expose her.

So he simply nodded.

“Alright.”

Souna visibly relaxed.

Ren leaned closer, resting his head against the back of the chair.

“Guess it’s just us today.”

Souna’s cheeks immediately became slightly warmer.

“Y-yes…”

A small smile appeared on Ren’s face.

“Nice.”
