Ren went back home, still thinking about the burn he had gotten on his throat.

Even after all his ridiculous abilities, somehow a cup of hot tea had managed to humble him.

On his way back, he stopped by a convenience store and stood in front of the refrigerated aisle, staring at the different cakes on display while carefully deciding which ones he wanted.Full novel: The Almighty. — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

‘Something to eat tonight while gaming.’ he thought.

Being a god and all came with more perks than most people could comprehend.

One of the best was that he could eat basically anything he wanted without having to worry about gaining weight.

Calories were practically meaningless to him, which was something Ren took full advantage of whenever he got the chance.

He reached toward one of the cakes before suddenly turning his head.

Two people were walking down the aisle toward him.

One guy and one girl.

Ren’s eyes immediately landed on the girl.

He knew her, not personally, obviously, but he knew exactly who she was.

Raynare.

The beautiful Fallen Angel who would single-handedly kickstart the main story of High School DxD.

She walked beside some random dude who had absolutely no idea that his life was about to take a very unfortunate turn.

The guy was smiling from ear to ear while Raynare leaned closer to him, putting on her innocent girlfriend act.

“Come on, buy me this, babe,” she said in her sweet, cutesy voice.

The dude laughed like Goofy.

“Okay.

Since you want it, you can have it.”

Ren stared at them for a moment.

Then slowly shook his head.

‘GGs, bro.’

He grabbed two cakes from the shelf and walked toward the counter, leaving the doomed couple behind.

After paying, Ren stepped outside the store.

Through the glass doors, he watched as Raynare and the guy got into a car before driving away.

Ren stood there for a few seconds.

He sighed.

“Ayt.

I’ll help him.”

The next moment, the cakes in his hands simply vanished into his inventory.

Ren looked around to make sure nobody was watching before creating a simple black ski mask and pulling it over his face.

His eyes narrowed.

“It’s hero time.”

With a single leap, Ren shot into the sky.

WHOOSH!

His body rocketed above the surrounding buildings, the wind whipping violently around him as he quickly gained altitude.

His eyes immediately locked onto the car speeding through the streets below.

Ren tilted his body forward.

Then he dived.

He descended like a missile.

The car’s driver glanced into the side mirror.

His eyes widened.

“What the—”

Ren slammed onto the roof of the car.

BOOM!

The entire vehicle shook violently beneath his feet.

The driver panicked and immediately swerved across the road.

Ren looked down at the car.

‘Yep.

That’s the smartest move to do.’ he thought sarcastically.

The tires screeched against the pavement as the car spun sideways before tumbling toward the nearby intersection.

Ren reacted immediately.

He reached through the driver’s window and grabbed the man by his shirt before ripping him out of the vehicle in one smooth motion.

The next second, Ren leapt away.

Behind him

CRASH!

The car slammed into the building ahead, its front end crumpling as glass shattered across the street.

Ren landed safely inside a quiet alleyway, still holding the confused man by his clothes.

‘She’ll be okay.’

The Fallen Angel was hardly going to die from something like that.

The man, meanwhile, seemed far more concerned about what had just happened to him.

“Bro, what the fuck?!”

Ren slowly looked at him.

“How did you do that?!

Why did you even do that?!

I was about to get laid with that chick, man!”

Ren stared at him blankly.

‘That’s what you’re worried about?’

The guy continued complaining, completely oblivious to the fact that the woman he had been planning to sleep with was a supernatural creature who intended to kill him afterward.

Ren sighed.

“You better get out of here.”

The man’s expression changed.

“What?”

“Seriously.

Get as far away from here as possible.”

Ren pointed toward the direction of the crashed vehicle.

“Or that bitch will turn you into Swiss cheese.”

The man stared at him in confusion.

Ren simply turned around.

He had done his good deed for the day.

Now he could go home and eat his cake.

At the scene of the car crash, a small crowd had already begun to gather.

Phones were out, voices overlapping in concern and curiosity.

Then the first tongues of flame licked up from under the hood.

The moment the fire truly caught, people instinctively backed away, forming a loose, uneasy circle at a safer distance.

Suddenly—

BANG.

The driver’s side door was kicked clean off its hinges.

It skidded across the asphalt with a metallic screech.

Raynare stepped out of the wreckage as if the burning car were nothing more than an inconvenience.

Her black dress was torn in several places, the fabric hanging loosely and leaving almost nothing to the imagination.

The generous swell of her breasts was fully on display, and the crowd half-shocked, half-awestruck actually let out a scattered cheer.

She flashed them a sharp, satisfied smile, then crouched and launched herself high into the air in a single powerful leap.

For a moment the onlookers simply stared upward, mouths open.

“…Must be the petrol fumes,” someone muttered.

“Yeah… yeah, that has to be it.”

A few blocks away, Ren felt her approach long before he saw her.

He let out a quiet sigh, glanced down at the dazed horny dude still on the ground, and delivered a clean, precise knock-out blow to the back of the neck.

The man crumpled.

Ren vanished a heartbeat later.

He reappeared on a nearby rooftop just as Raynare landed on the same surface, black feathered wings spreading wide to catch her descent.

The evening wind tugged at her torn dress.

Ren’s gaze, however, went straight to her chest and stayed there.

“They stay erect twenty-four seven?

Anime boobs really are something.”

Raynare’s eyes locked onto him, fury already building.

“Who are you?!

Why did you interrupt my meal?

I could have killed a Sacred Gear user!”

Ren shrugged, completely unbothered.

“No reason, honestly.

But you should leave.

I’m not exactly into hitting women.”

He turned as if the conversation were already over.

That casual dismissal only enraged her further.

A spear of pure light materialized in her hand with a sharp crackle.

Without another word she hurled it at his back with lethal force.

Ren didn’t even flinch.

He simply stood there and let it hit him square between the shoulder blades.

BOOM.

A violent explosion of light and smoke erupted across the rooftop, the blast strong enough to rattle nearby windows.

Raynare straightened, breathing a little harder, and waited for the cloud to settle.

‘Now where is he?’ She thought, scanning the smoke for any sign of a body or at least serious injury.

The haze slowly thinned.

Ren stood in the exact same spot, completely unharmed.

Not a single scorch mark.

Not even a tear in his clothes.

He brushed a bit of dust from his sleeve with mild distaste.

“I am really disappointed in how weak you guys are,” he muttered under his breath, almost to himself.

“Maybe Kokabiel will pose a bit of a challenge.”

Raynare froze.

The casual mention of Kokabiel’s name hit harder than any physical blow.

Her mind raced.

‘ How does he know Master Kokabiel?

Is he some kind of high-ranking being?

My light spear didn’t even scratch him…’

The earlier arrogance drained out of her in an instant.

When she spoke again, her voice was careful almost respectful.

“Who are you?”

Ren’s masked face tilted slightly.

Behind the dark covering, a smirk tugged at his lips, though she couldn’t see it.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

The next moment he was simply gone from her field of vision.

A soft rush of displaced air was the only warning.

He reappeared directly behind her and delivered a precise chop to the side of her neck.

Raynare’s eyes widened for a fraction of a second before her body went limp.

She crumpled forward onto the rooftop, black wings folding awkwardly around her as she hit the concrete.

Ren stood over her for a brief moment, watching the fallen angel remain completely still.

“Well,” he said quietly, “I’m done here.”

Without another glance he crouched, then launched himself skyward in a single powerful leap.

In the next second he was already a distant shape against the evening sky, vanishing into the growing darkness and leaving Raynare unconscious and alone on the empty rooftop.

‘ Now.

Time for some well deserved cake’ he thought to himself.
