Talia’s POV

“Your family will arrive at Umbra Wilds before tomorrow’s ceremony,” Caspian commanded my father, his voice carrying the weight of absolute authority.

This isn’t up for discussion.”

My father’s mouth formed a tight line, but he remained silent.

What choice did he have?

He’d already handed me over like damaged goods.

And nobody dared to defy Caspian Vanderbilt.

I couldn’t suppress the sharp intake of breath as Caspian’s hand closed around my arm, pulling me away from my parents and siblings.

They stood frozen, afraid to utter a single word in his presence.

The journey to Umbra Wilds stretched endlessly before us, filled with oppressive silence rather than peace.

Tension saturated the air inside the vehicle, crushing my chest with each mile we traveled.

I pressed myself against the opposite door, maintaining as much distance as possible from Caspian in the confined space.

My hands twisted together in my lap while I sought solace from the cool window glass, though it offered little relief from the chaos consuming my thoughts.

My father’s final words echoed relentlessly in my mind.

The reality still felt impossible to accept – he’d surrendered me to a complete stranger and cast me out from our pack.

My own pack.

All because of these cursed pheromones that had finally ceased their torment, but only after destroying everything I held dear.

The betrayal burned fresh and raw, like a wound that refused to heal.

And here I was.

Prisoner in a stranger’s vehicle, being transported to an unknown destination.

A pack where I didn’t belong.

A place that would never be home.

Uncertainty gnawed at me, but the heavy dread settling in my stomach warned that nothing pleasant awaited me.

I was tainted goods who brought unwanted chaos wherever I appeared.

When our convoy finally entered Umbra Wilds territory, the sight stole my breath completely.

The massive scope overwhelmed me.

Where Moonstone Pack featured modest, identical structures, this domain screamed wealth and authority, designed for elite warriors and powerful leaders.

The imposing fortress dominated the horizon, its stone architecture and pointed towers radiating dominance.

Even through the car windows, I observed how the inhabitants moved with precision and purpose, every action deliberate.

They’d assembled to welcome their Alpha’s return, positioned in military formation near the main entrance.

The moment our vehicles stopped and we emerged, every gaze fixed on me.

My body went rigid.

The warriors and pack members approached Caspian first, offering respectful bows.

They acknowledged his Beta, whom I’d discovered was named Logan, with similar deference.

But when they looked at me?

Their expressions turned hostile.

Disgust.

Distrust.

Pure hatred.

It surrounded me completely.

No welcoming words were offered.

Not even mild curiosity.

Only absolute rejection.

I forced down the lump forming in my throat.

This shouldn’t have shocked me.

I was cursed, wasn’t I?

The Moon Goddess’s greatest mistake.

Their collective stare felt like suffocation.

Despite wanting distance from Caspian, my traitorous feet carried me closer to his towering presence, using his imposing figure as protection from the animosity radiating from the assembled crowd.

I despised myself for the weakness.

Caspian remained silent as he strode toward the fortress entrance, his confident steps commanding attention from everyone present.

I pushed myself to follow, blocking out the whispered comments that buzzed behind us like venomous insects.

As we neared the enormous doorway, a man in expensive attire and bearing an aura of significance stepped forward.

Perhaps a Gamma, or maybe the chief steward?

Regardless of his title, his posture remained perfectly erect as he executed a formal bow before Caspian.

“My Alpha,” he said with practiced smoothness.

Then he shifted slightly toward Logan, offering a courteous nod.

“Beta Logan.”

His attention never wandered to me.

I might as well have been invisible.

I pressed my nails into my palms, sharp humiliation piercing through me.

The dismissal came naturally and completely, as if acknowledging my existence wasn’t worth the effort.

“All arrangements have been completed,” the man continued, speaking directly to Caspian.

“Including the accommodations.”

The accommodations?

Unease crept down my spine like ice water.

What arrangements were they discussing?

Before I could voice my questions, Caspian turned and entered the castle, his bearing casual and completely unaffected by the surrounding tension.

I paused briefly, then forced myself forward while searching for a chance to speak.

The fortress’s grand entryway consumed me entirely, its soaring ceilings and elaborate stonework making me feel insignificant.

Logan and the other man followed behind us, their footsteps ringing against the gleaming floors.

The pressure in my chest intensified with each step.

I couldn’t endure it any longer.

“I need my own room.” The words emerged harsher than I’d planned, but I felt no remorse.

Caspian halted immediately.

Slowly, he pivoted to face me, one dark eyebrow rising.

I raised my chin, forcing my voice to stay firm.

“I refuse to share your bed.”

His amber eyes sparked with something dangerous, a mocking smile playing at his mouth.

He examined me thoroughly before responding.

“You believe I desire you in my bed, little wolf?” His smile widened, though his gaze remained unreadable.

“You’ll sleep wherever I decide.

Let’s test my generosity.”

Something almost entertained in his tone sent warning signals through my nervous system.

His attention shifted to the man beside Logan.

“Place her in the guest wing.”

I stared, my pulse faltering.

The guest wing?

That was unexpected.

A minor victory, perhaps.

But I wasn’t naive.

A beautiful prison remained a prison, and I had no plans to accept it permanently.

“One final matter!” Caspian stopped abruptly and faced me, as if suddenly remembering something crucial.

“Attempting to flee my stronghold would be foolish.

My warriors have orders to kill you on sight, so don’t waste your energy.”

“What?” His declaration settled into my bones like frozen lead, cold and absolute.

I hadn’t even considered escape plans, yet he’d already marked me for death.

Caspian’s voice sliced through my racing thoughts, delivering one last threat.

“Arrive promptly for dinner tonight.

I despise tardiness.”

Then he vanished, striding down the corridor with his Beta as if he hadn’t just shattered what remained of my world.

I remained motionless, breathing raggedly, hands shaking.

Imprisoned in this fortress.

Subject to his control.
