*Lila's POV*
The atmosphere was charged, not with frenetic excitement, but with a potent tension, like the calm before a storm, filled with fear yet tinged with a hint of anticipation. I squeezed my eyes shut tightly, steadying my trembling hands, a testament to my resolve in the face of uncertainty.
What could this mark mean? It surfaced on my arm the night I received my extraordinary gift. This was a sign, a symbol of something greater.
Lost in thought, I was drawn back by the entrance of Holly.
"Hey friend, what's up? Hope you're feeling in control now," Holly greeted me with infectious enthusiasm.
"I am, somehow, but I'm also confused."
"Confused about what, Luna?" Holly asked, using the name she affectionately called me.
"This mark signifies that I am tied to someone or something, and I can't quite understand its meaning."
"What do you think it is?" I asked, still searching for answers.
"I'm not sure, but we should find Cole. He might have the knowledge we seek," Holly suggested.
"Okay, where is he?"
"I don't know, let's look for him," she replied, her spirit undeterred.
We dashed downstairs, determined to find Cole. After searching his room and coming up empty, I started to worry.
"Where could he be?"
"I don't know, but let's keep searching," Holly encouraged.
Suddenly, a deep, guttural growl resonated from the Packhouse, electrifying the air with its primal energy. It was Cole. My heart raced, filled with renewed courage.
"What was that?" Holly asked, fear creeping into her voice.
"I'm not sure, but it's coming from the Packhouse. We need to check it out."
We approached the Packhouse with purpose as the howling intensified, fierce and echoing.
We threw open the doors to find Cole wrestling with his wolf self. We rushed to assist, but he was far too powerful.
"Cole, what's going on? Are you okay?"
Cole continued howling, lost in the turmoil within.
As we struggled to help him, he broke free and sprinted toward the house.
"We have to follow him!" I urged, adrenaline coursing through me.
When we reached the house, chaos reigned in the room, and everything was scattered about.
"What's happening with Cole?" Holly asked, her voice trembling.
"I don't know, but we must act quickly before he hurts someone."
We ran towards the source of the howling. What I saw froze me in place.
Cole had tragically harmed two of his maids. Shock coursed through me, a solemn realization of the gravity of the situation.
"Oh my God, what has Cole done? Lila, you have to stop him; he's not himself. Something is wrong," Holly implored.
"Okay, I will, but you must hide. Don't let him see you."
"Okay," she agreed, searching for a safe place.
Determined, I moved to confront Cole before things worsened.
As I neared him, I saw a darkness in his eyes—a spellbinding influence holding him captive.
"Cole, stop! This isn't you. Listen to my voice. Follow my voice."
He approached me, anger radiating from him as if a storm brewed beneath the surface.
In that moment of uncertainty, my wolf, Phyna, called to me.
"Lila, you need my help. Let me out."
With newfound strength, I complied, transforming into my wolf.
Cole paused. It was as if I commanded his attention with my presence.
I howled, and he fell to his knees, reclaiming his humanity as he called my name.
"Lila, what's happening? Why am I kneeling before you?" he asked, then succumbed to unconsciousness.
I rushed to his side. "Cole, Cole, are you okay?"
He responded softly, a fragile connection still holding.
"Holly, come quickly! I need your help!"
Holly emerged with urgency in every step.
We carefully laid Cole down on his bed, our hearts heavy with concern.
"We need to call someone," Holly urged.
"Who?" I replied, my thoughts racing.
"His uncle Jacob, of course."
"Okay, please do."
Holly dashed to grab her phone while I held Cole's hand, unwilling to let him go.
"Cole, come back to me," I whispered. He remained unresponsive, filling me with dread.
"I can't lose him," I thought, the weight of my feelings pressing upon me.
"Holly, where is everyone?" I suddenly wondered.
"The house is too silent, like a graveyard."
"Where are all the guards?" I questioned.
"Lila, I need to see something," Holly said, her intuition guiding her.
Together, we moved to the place where the bodies once were, but found them vanished.
"What's happening? Where are they?"
"I don't know, but they were just here when I left for my phone," Holly said, determination etched on her face.
"Something sinister is at play," she realized.
"Try calling Uncle Jacob again," I suggested
Holly picked up her phone, and this time Jacob answered.
"Uncle Jacob, you have to come quickly; Cole isn't well. Something bad is happening in the house," she exclaimed.
"Okay, I'll be on my way immediately," Uncle Jacob replied, urgency in his voice.
"What did he say? Is he coming?" I asked.
"Yes, he's on his way," Holly confirmed.
"Okay, let's stay put and wait for him."
"Cole isn't responding. I can't bear to lose him."
Desperation intertwined with hope as I prayed for a solution.
"Phyna, plea
se tell me what to do," I implored my wolf.
"I suggest you wait for Uncle Jacob," Phyna responded gently.
"Okay Phyna, I will trust in that."
