Selena’s POV

I was heading over to the kitchen to get the ingredients that I needed to make breakfast for both me and Ian.

He said he would be having a let’s breakfast because of something that happened recently and he holed up in his office for a while.Full novel: The Alpha’s Scarlet Slave — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After he said it he looked at me like he expected me to implode, but I remain as calm and sweet as I had forced myself to be for the past couple of days.

So far I think he suspect me.

I had been acting differently but I didn’t think he would care that much, no matter what he still just saw me as a slave right so there was no way he could think of me as an actual threat to him.

Unless he knew about my conversation with his brother, there was no solid reason to think that I was problematic.

And it had been that way with everyone else that thought that they owned me they all underestimated me thinking that I was incapable of standing up for myself.

But I would not be a Wrath if I forgot about my pride.

That was something I could never forfeit even if I give up everything else.

When I reached the back door I knocked three times this was because of an agreement that I made with the head chef I was never to enter the kitchen casually myself I had to knock first and unless he gave me a real reason to ruffle his feathers I was just going to keep to those rules.

Within me razor was struggling to get out I had intentionally put her to sleep again, and it put me in a state of unrest suppressing your wolf was never easy I think it’s something that I was just able to tap into after years of not being able to connect with her.

Just a little bit longer I don’t want her to interfere with what I plan to do.

I knocked on the back door leading into the kitchen three times.

No response I did it again three consecutive times so that they would know it was me. This story is hosted at g.com.

Still no one responding but this time I heard sounds coming from beyond at the door footsteps hushed voices and then when I was about to knock again for the third time.

I heard heavy footsteps coming towards the door and then it was swung open so hard that it was nearly turn off of its hinges.

“What do you want?! Are you planning to take down this door?!” The head chef ,a lanky and temperamental middle-aged man, roared at me as if I was the reason why he couldn’t grow a beard.

“… I just wanted the ingredients to prepare a meal for the Grand Alpha,”

His eyes wrecked through me from head to two and you could tell that every inch of me evoked disgust out of him.

“Just who do you think you are?” He demands to know, hands crossed, behind him others who also worked in the kitchen were beginning to slow down their attention coming towards the door.

I hated this.

He was going to give me the ingredients at the end of the day, ultimately he would.

But at the same time he wanted to ‘push me down to my place’ slaves were usually used in the notes for manual gruling labor.

The best you could do was gathering the ingredients but you were not actually allowed to prepare meals.

Those of us from the South where seen as far too filthy and vile to be allowed to touch the food that would go into their mouth directly.

I could imagine how much it was chipping at his pride to provide me these ingredients.

It was always nice to see a northerner who felt like they were better than me being proven wrong.

“I’m nobody important …”I said planting one hand on my hip, “… Just somebody who have to explain to the alpha why he will be starving this morning,”

I watched his face go as red as a tomato, rage bubbling inside of him and showing as more lines seem to appear on his already crooked looking face.

“Do you think you can take my job from me? I’ve been cooking for the grand Alpha since when he was a child I’ve spent decades on this job…. You couldn’t match it even if your life depended on it,”

The sourness on his face curdled into it twisted smile.

“… Though I wouldn’t have to worry much about you, after all we know the real services you are providing for him is something that can be replaced easily,” I could tell what he was hinting out immediately and the others behind him clearly could to the way their whispers rose.

Before I was fine with just getting the ingredients and leaving.

But since this northern bastard decided to get under My skin I’ll have to teach him a lesson that he won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

I lowered my voice intentionally so that those behind him would not be able to hear what I was saying.

“Maybe if you were actually able to make a suitable meal for the Grand alpha he wouldn’t be so eager for what I actually make instead,”

As I expected his pride was far too fragile and easily broken the moment I said that he swung his palm and it made direct contact with my cheek it came hard and I could taste the blood in my mouth a copperish tang in my mouth.

Normally that would have done nothing to me, but I was intentionally making a scene.

So I collapsed like I had received a fatal blow dropping to the ground as if that alone has been enough to put one foot in the grave for me and then on what I could only describe as perfect timing I heard Ian growling from behind.

“How dare you touch her!”
