Landing in one of the many streets of New York, Jake stumbles out of the drop pod he was thrown in last minute by that jerk Nick Fury once Jake agreed to work with him.
Jake: "(Grumbles) I swear that man is the definition of no class."
As Jake pats himself down, his drop pod turns into a helicopter drone and starts flying away, possibly back to the Helicarrier as Jake makes his way through the city and sees that for the most part everything was in ruins as no one was outside other than the infected as they fought for dominance for their areas.
Walking around the place, Jake soon saw that there were still a couple of normal people still out and about, but they were just your standard scavengers who always appeared whenever something happened to New York.
They were essentially the same as pigeons to anyone who's lived here long enough since they were mostly normal and only started to act up once they thought the city or the planet was done for, even after seeing the city or planet get saved many times by many different heroes.
Thinking it would be best to ignore them, Jake grabbed a little journal filled with the names of addresses of all his friends and where they might have gone once the place went crazy for the millionth time.
The first stop was, of course, Penny's home to see if she and her Aunt May were alright and hopefully managed to get to safety with everyone else; otherwise, it'd be a very heartbreaking scene for Jake to see if they were attacked.
Going inside the house, Jake notices that someone had broken down all the doors, with one of them having impaled the wall opposite one of the second-floor rooms. With every step Jake takes, he feels something creaking, cracking, or what feels like a puddle.
Jake: "Please don't be blood. Please don't be blood. Please don't be blood."
Was all Jake could say or think as he looked down and thankfully saw that while it was blood, it wasn't blood from anyone he cared about, as if Jake were to guess Aunt May's new boy toy was forced into the ceiling by one very strong and pissed off symbiote.
Trying to help the poor guy out a bit, Jake pulls the poor man out, only to realize this must have been some twisted killer lair or something, as about fifteen different arms, legs, heads, and torsos fell out of the whole, covering the entire floor with their parts and some red bio mush.
Jake just shakes his head at the horrific sight of everything as he hears a familiar groan coming from wherever his other half was, as if in disagreement and annoyance at what had happened to these poor people... that or because of the waste and fresh meat either way worked.
Jake continues walking around the house as he goes into the usual rooms Aunt May and Penny liked to frequent along with their room and looked around them to try and find something that might have led him to where they could have been staying just in case.
Sadly, Jake didn't find anything on the first floor of the building, leading to him having to go up to the second story as he... invaded Penny's privacy more than he was already doing as he slowly walked up the stairs and saw every photo of Penny as happy as she could be as a kid and began feeling like he was about to commit a sin or something.
Once inside Penny's room, Jake fully takes in how different it seems when he went inside alone versus being invited by Penny, as everything seemed some how brighter, more girly, and also again more like he was doing something bad by just being there.
Jake: "Why do I feel like I'm doing something wrong?"
Ekaj: "(Ghostly voice)... whipped.. little.. boy."
Jake just rolls his eyes as she wonders why he even started to worry and miss that voice of theirs as he looked around Penny's room and noticed that she was a slob when she wakes up compared to how she usually talked the big talk about being orderly and everything.
On Penny's desk there was a picture of her as a child and a much younger-looking Uncle Ben and Aunt May, as they all seemed to be having the times of their lives at the beach, judging from how happy they all seemed to be in the picture anyway.
In the far corner of the room, Jake saw... something that either looked innocent or indecent depending on how you looked at it, and since Jake was in a woman's bedroom, he didn't feel all that good at looking and guessing at what it might have been, so he just chose to ignore it completely.
Checking Penny's closet, Jake is surprised to see a Spiderwoman costume in it, not just because it was one but more because... it was a "special" version, to say the least, as it looked to be nothing more than a spider-themed swimsuit with a Spiderwoman mask.
Along with that was a red and blue Black Cat-looking outfit and, for some reason, a Captain America female version outfit, causing Jake to wonder what the heck his friend was doing, as he's never seen nor heard of her having any of these before.
As Jake was about to leave the room, he heard something fall on the ground or something bang against something from underneath Penny's bed, and while every part of him was telling him not to look as every lady had a secret or two like that, his body didn't seem to listen.
Laying down on the ground, Jake tries to look for whatever might have made the noise, and after a single minute of looking, he was about ready to give up, as he really didn't feel all that comfortable doing this to one of his closet friends.
However, something seemed to be calling him, and he finally found it—the old, rusted-up-looking vent cover that had caused the sound as one of the bolts on it had broken off, revealing that it was Penny's little secret area.
Jake grabs the corner of the vent and rips it off with relative ease and places it down as gently as he could in front of the pocket area as Jake starts pulling out the usual things he'd expect to find: books, magazines, pictures, etc. However, what he didn't expect to find was another Spiderwoman mask inside the vent.
Jake: "What the hell?"
Looking even deeper inside the pocket area, Jake eventually found a journal with a heart on the front and a picture of both himself and Penny in it that he had given her years ago, but was told she had thrown it away almost the second she got it by Aunt May.
Jake: "Never thought I'd see this again, nor did I ever think I'd see mine and Penny's picture together."
Jake smiles at the sight before putting everything back in the hidey hole he found them in, but not before he reads a little of Penny's journal since he was already invading one of her most secret areas, so what's the harm in reading the journal?
As Jakes opens up the journal, he notices that some slip of paper had fallen out, and while it may be a bit odd, there wasn't really anything too strange about a journal having folded-up paper inside it; heck, Jake himself has many journals with similar things inside them.
But still wanting to at least give Penny some privacy, Jake just skims through everything as he reads a sentence or two from the journals along with looking at any pictures she drew on the pages before moving on to the next one.
The book was a little strange to say the least, as Jake could tell when Ben had been killed by just how happy her writings seemed to be, along with some of the pages before then having water damage on them from Penny's tears.
Which was a bit odd since Jake gave this thing to her after her Uncle Ben died, but whatever, maybe she was trying to remember the good times in her own way before it eventually got too much for her and she began writing normally.
At some point, however, Penny's writings started to get very dark, to the point that Jake couldn't help but start reading the entirety of every page as it slowly began sounding more and more like Penny was trying to do something to either herself or the man who killed her uncle.
As the chapters started to get darker and darker, they suddenly stopped. There was nothing written for about fifteen pages until eventually there was suddenly a tone of different drawing of Spiderwoman around the same time she started getting famous.
It wasn't that hard for Jake to see why Penny liked her so much, as she seemed to be everything that Penny could never be from how she walked, talked, and acted around the city. Giving everyone some hope that even though she started off smaller than any other hero, she could stand just as tall as the Fantastic Four and The Avengers!
Jake: "I may hate the way she does things, but if Spiderwoman can help people like Penny get out of her darkest hour, then maybe she's alright after all."
Jake gets up off the floor and makes his way towards Aunt May's room to try and search it as well, just in case there might have been a clue in there. But before he even opened the door, he recalled... lots and lots of different times Aunt May forbade him and everyone else from opening her door.
Jake: "You know... if she was so adamant on no one going in there than for my own safety (and sanity) I should probably just leave it alone."
As Jake leaves Aunt May's room, he feels something seeming to creep towards him—something demonic, if you will, as it was something that tried to get Jake to enter the room even though everything else in his body was refusing like it was a matter of life or death.
Walking out of the house, Jake is immediately attacked by a horde of red symbiote creatures. At one point these things might have been people, but since they seemed to be walking on all fours and only roared like savage beasts, they couldn't be considered human anymore.
Which helped lessen the guilt that Jake would have had when he started killing the things with a silver blade Jake had grabbed from the armory before he was forced into one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. drop pods that dropped him off in one of Manhattan's many alleyways.
While Jake did feel the urge to fight the second he saw that there were at least twenty of these things all sprinting towards him, he no longer liked his odds of winning and slowly began running with all his might towards any building that had at least three stories and a glass window.
The second Jake spots a building that looked tall enough and had a giant glass window he didn't even think about what it might have been as he stated running towards it at max speed and barrel rolled into the window like a video game character trying to get to that sweet secret bonus level.
Once inside, Jake looks around for some nearby stairs, but before he could get there, he felt something sharp ram right into his spine as he gets thrown into the nearby wall, destroying all the pictures that were hanging on the wall.
Surprisingly, however, Jake didn't seem to be in much pain given how he was just treated, but also looking at the pictures, Jake saw that even though every one of them seemed to be set in a different era, there was at least one person who always looked the same no matter what.
???: "Hey Bub, what's the big idea breaking into my favorite bar with all them red-necked freaks hot on your tail!"
