As the distance between the two sides closed, Huo Mian saw the zombies either staggering along or spinning aimlessly in place, letting out a series of spine-chilling snarls.

Most of the zombies were wearing white lab coats, nurses’ uniforms, or patient gowns.

F University’s campus hospital operated around the clock, so its main doors were never locked. As a result, the zombies inside the hospital could wander freely throughout the campus.Full novel: The Apocalypse Arrives: I Became the Female Lead Who Dies at the Start — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The Swift Shadow Squad charged toward the horde first.

Seeing this, everyone immediately tightened their grip on their weapons and rushed forward.

Huo Mian and Xu Mingfan quickly locked onto their target—a female zombie wearing a nurse’s uniform.

Xu Mingfan gripped his gleaming golden broadsword and charged toward the zombie first.

The nurse zombie seemed to notice the commotion and immediately let out a roar, extending its sharp claws and viciously reaching for Xu Mingfan’s neck.

Xu Mingfan abruptly shifted sideways and swung his blade at the zombie’s arm.

“Crack!”

A forearm was severed on the spot, the limb falling to the ground as the floor was instantly stained black by the zombie’s blood.

The nurse zombie let out a shrill, mournful howl. Its mouth stretched open, revealing sharp teeth, and it lunged at Xu Mingfan again with a ferocious expression.

At the same time, Huo Mian crouched low and quietly slipped behind the nurse zombie.

She gripped her Tang saber with both hands and was just about to stab the zombie in the back of the head when a figure suddenly swept past her in a gust of wind.

Huo Mian’s heart jolted. She instinctively looked toward the figure, only to realize it was that guy, Xiao Yukun.

Xu Mingfan, standing opposite her, suddenly changed expression and shouted urgently, “Xiaomian, watch out behind you!”

Huo Mian’s body reacted instinctively. She turned around and saw a tall male zombie charging straight at her.

There were only three or four steps between them.

Huo Mian’s pupils contracted sharply. She quickly moved to the right, narrowly dodging the zombie’s attack.

She kept moving, trying to put some distance between herself and the zombie.

Seeing that he had shaken off the zombie, Xiao Yukun secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

When he saw the zombie charging toward Huo Mian, a flicker of guilt crossed his eyes, and he guiltily turned his head away.

When that zombie had charged at him, Xiao Yukun had instantly remembered his previous experience fleeing for his life.

Fear once again overwhelmed him. In the end, he still did not dare to fight the zombie and could only focus on escaping.

Earlier, when they had been clearing out the zombies outside the cafeteria, Xiao Yukun had constantly slacked off, pretending to work while contributing as little as possible.

Moreover, the zombies outside the cafeteria had been weakened considerably by the fire, so they were nowhere near as powerful as the zombies here.

As for inadvertently luring the zombie toward Huo Mian, all he could do was apologize to her silently in his heart.

The zombie refused to give up and locked onto Huo Mian.

As if sensing that its prey was about to escape, it let out a roar, accelerated, stretched out both arms, and lunged fiercely at Huo Mian.

Huo Mian’s figure flashed as she quickly dodged to the left. At the same time, she gripped the Tang saber with both hands and followed through with a sideways slash.

A flash of cold light swept past.

The sharp blade sliced across the zombie’s neck, but because she lacked sufficient strength, the attack did not cause much damage.

Instead, the attack seemed to ignite the zombie’s ferocity. It bared its mouth wide and lunged at Huo Mian once again.

At the critical moment, Huo Mian’s eyes hardened. She abruptly raised the Tang saber high above her head and thrust it toward the zombie’s face with all her strength.

“Pfft!”

The Tang saber plunged straight into the zombie’s hollow eye socket, successfully piercing through its skull.

The zombie’s body suddenly froze before toppling toward Huo Mian.

Huo Mian felt a tremendous force crash into her. The web between her thumb and index finger went numb from the impact, and she stumbled backward, unable to control her fall.

Huo Shaochen noticed her predicament and shot forward from the side. He grabbed her arm and pulled her aside, quickly avoiding the zombie’s body as it crashed to the ground.

Huo Mian covered her chest with her fair hand, still shaken by what had happened.

She looked up at Huo Shaochen and smiled.

“Captain Huo, thank you!” she said sincerely.

Huo Shaochen remained expressionless and casually said, “Be careful.”

Before Huo Mian could respond, he quickly turned around and rushed toward the other zombies.

Huo Mian stood where she was, catching her breath as she watched Huo Shaochen’s retreating figure.

She saw him walk up to a zombie and swing his right hand. With a single slash, he chopped off the zombie’s head.

Soon, he moved on to another zombie and repeated the same move.

In less than ten seconds, he had killed four or five zombies.

The way Huo Shaochen chopped through zombie necks was like cutting radishes. He looked completely effortless.

Huo Mian stared in stunned silence and subconsciously swallowed.

As expected of the male lead—his combat power was absolutely insane!

The group quickly eliminated all the zombies and hurried toward the School of Life Sciences.

F University’s School of Life Sciences building had four floors.

The first and second floors contained ordinary classrooms and lecture halls, which were used for basic courses, large specialized lectures, and academic presentations.

The third and fourth floors contained laboratories for various scientific research experiments. Professor Yang was trapped on the fourth floor, and his fate remained unknown.

At this moment, the entire School of Life Sciences building was shrouded in silence.

Since the zombie virus had broken out at night, avoiding the usual evening self-study period, there were very few zombies on the first and second floors.

Huo Shaochen calmly and methodically directed everyone to begin the rescue operation.

Wang Rui, Zhao Weiguang, and Song Weiyi worked together to deal with the zombies on the first floor.

The second floor was handed over to Xu Kaiyang, Luo Lixin, and Xiao Yukun.

Xie Licheng, Su Qinghuan, Liu Heyuan, and Zhong Zhenye were responsible for clearing the zombies on the third floor.

Meanwhile, Huo Shaochen led everyone else toward the fourth floor.

A faint sense of unease began to grow in Huo Mian’s heart. She stayed close behind Bai Ningrong as they climbed the staircase leading into the unknown.

Everyone remained alert. Whenever they reached a new floor, Huo Shaochen would make a hand signal.

His team members immediately understood and led their respective groups to the designated floors to clear out the zombies.

For a moment, the atmosphere was tense. The stairwell echoed with the group’s soft footsteps and slightly heavy breathing.

In less than two minutes, Huo Mian and the others successfully reached the fourth floor.

The moment she stepped out of the stairwell, Huo Mian noticed two zombies wandering in each of the two corridors.

These zombies were wearing white lab coats. Their eyes had turned completely white, their skin was rotting, and they emitted a nauseating stench of decay.

When they saw the group, they charged toward them at high speed as if they had discovered prey. Their ferocious appearance made it seem as though they wanted to tear everyone apart and devour them.

Huo Shaochen carried his long saber and nimbly charged toward the zombies on the left.

Within seconds, he reached the zombies. He swung his long saber, and with a sharp ripping sound, the blade sliced precisely across a zombie’s neck.

Its head fell to the ground.

Another zombie behind it lunged forward.

Huo Shaochen lowered his body and swept his blade horizontally.

“Bang!”

The zombie crashed heavily to the ground.

Before it could react, Huo Shaochen immediately followed with a backhand thrust.

“Pfft!”

The long saber plunged deep into the zombie’s skull.

At the same time, Cao Kang was not to be outdone. He engaged the zombies on the right.

He swung the massive iron hammer in his hands, his powerful arms lifting it high before bringing it crashing down on the zombie’s head with tremendous force.

“Thud!”

The zombie’s head was instantly smashed to pieces, sending brain matter and black blood splattering across the surrounding walls.

Cao Kang hefted the massive hammer and was just about to step forward to finish off the other zombie when Wen Qi’s voice suddenly rang out.

“Everyone, be careful! There’s a Level-One zombie in the restroom on the right. It’s coming this way!”

His voice was urgent, and his expression was grim.

Upon hearing this, Huo Mian’s heart began pounding like a drum. She immediately turned toward the direction from which the zombie was approaching.

Twenty or thirty meters away, a zombie wearing a black security guard uniform was charging toward them at incredible speed.

Bai Ningrong quickly condensed an ice spike in her palm and then violently shot it toward the zombie.

However, the zombie seemed to possess extraordinary agility. It merely shifted its body slightly and easily dodged the fierce attack.

Huo Shaochen heard the commotion and quickly turned around, just in time to see the zombie dodge the ice spike.

His expression turned solemn as he quickly stepped in front of them and activated the ability within his body.

A dazzling ball of lightning condensed in his palm, crackling with electricity.

Then he suddenly swung his arm, sending the lightning ball hurtling toward the zombie.

However, the zombie was as agile as a human—or even more agile than an ordinary person.

Just as the lightning ball was about to hit it, the zombie merely tilted its head slightly and effortlessly dodged the attack.

Huo Shaochen frowned at this and ordered, “Use your guns.”

As soon as he spoke, Wen Qi swiftly drew the gun strapped to his waist. Without the slightest hesitation, he pulled the trigger repeatedly at the zombie.

“Bang, bang…”

He fired several shots in succession, the bullets whistling toward the zombie.

However, the Level-One zombie moved like a phantom, swaying left and right and avoiding the deadly bullets with an extremely strange movement.

Only two bullets struck it in the chest, splattering a small amount of black blood.

Yet this seemed to have done little damage to the zombie. It continued charging toward them at full speed.
