My parents and even my sister, my supposed family, defend Jackson’s claim without hesitation.
“That’s right, Doctor,” my mom chimes in, “this man killed him in broad daylight without any hesitation.” “You ex-military types are only good for using brute force.
You have no capacity for kindness or logic,” Sarah chimes in.
“Honestly, I don’t even know what we were thinking allowing you to ever come back into our lives,” Sarah cries out.
My dad walks up to my brother and puts his hand on his chest.
“I’m sorry, son, I couldn’t protect you.” With tears in his eyes, he looks in my direction and points his finger in my face and yells, “I can’t believe I ever had a son like you.
You’d even kill your own brother for what?
Because he knew you were plotting to take the family’s money and scram.” The doctor looks at me and says, “Sir, you’re going to jail for murder.
Security, arrest this man immediately for the murder of a patient.” I immediately look at the doctor and say, “Doc, there are cameras in the room.
You can pull up the footage and you can see what real—” The doc interrupts and says, “I don’t need the cameras in my hospital to know that you are responsible for this mess and must be arrested.
Scum like you aren’t someone I’d actually try to protect.” At those words, I realized that the doc was in on this as well.
This was all a plot to get rid of us both at the same time.
I finally snapped and laughed maniacally, scaring everyone in the room and making all of them take a step back.
“It all makes sense now.
Hahahaha!
I can’t believe it.
My own family has plotted to get rid of my brother and myself at the same time.
Oh, it’s quite fascinating,” I sarcastically say as I start pacing the room with an unhinged look on my face.
“So instead of telling me to my face that you want nothing to do with me, you planned this whole facade out.
Why the elaborate scheme?” I say as I mentally prepare my next move.
“Because you two muscleheads are quite competent and it’ll be so fun to see how the ghost of a husband tries to escape this,” a voice I had long forgotten says as she walks into the room.
Ashley is her name and we met at boot camp all those years ago.
We fell in love at first sight and married a year later.
Six months later I became a ghost.
“You ruined my life.
You left, never came back, and only sent letters.
You never called, never texted, never gave any hint that I’d see you again.
My family forced me not to remarry so we could keep ties with your family as it was beneficial for both families.
For 25 years of marriage, I’ve gone without you.
You stole my life and now I’m claiming it back.” I think to myself, “She’s not wrong.
I did kinda ghost her for most of her life.
I can’t say I’m a good person, but this doesn’t warrant this mess, does it?” “So let me get this straight,” I say, looking at my family and my wife, if you want to call her that.
I’m so divorcing her after this if I make it out.
“You bunch think it’s okay to murder my brother and frame me for a bunch of nonsense all because I’ve essentially become a ghost.
Does that make any sense?” Sarah chimes in because of course she had to, “You don’t exist apparently and because of this mess you can finally not exist for real.” The doc signals the security and they all point guns in my direction.
“Sir, you’re getting arrested for the crime of murder.
I suggest you cooperate,” the doc says with a scared but stoic look on his face (quite impressive of a face to make, I may add).
I made up my mind.
A wife who wants to kill me for abandonment and costing her her life.
A family who decides that murder is the best option to save money.
A corrupt doctor who says evidence doesn’t matter.
I walk up to Derricc with one thought as I put my hand on his chest, feeling his ever-slowing heartbeat.
Prison or fight for my life.
Prison or murder.
The choice was easy.
I’ve killed a lot in my lifetime.
I thought it would be harder to do this with my loved ones as my targets, but fortunately, they’ve made it easy for me.
Derricc, I say in my head, wondering if wherever he’s fixing to go is better than here.
“Derricc,” I say again, “I’m sorry.
You had your life stolen to protect mine.
In the end, I couldn’t protect you.
If I see you very soon, I hope you can forgive me.” Every person has a bottom line.
A line that if crossed can lead to dangerous consequences.
Derricc was mine.
For 46 years we were inseparable.
Best friends for life.
Dead by his own family.
That’s a sin I will never forgive.
I made up my mind.
I will take revenge for him with my own hands.
The security team confidently walks up to me to arrest me and soon realizes the truth.
I’m a big man.
Derricc and I are twins, but we don’t look fully alike.
Derricc is a solid 6’1″ with a standard NFL linebacker build.
I, on the other hand, am 6’6″ and am almost entirely solid muscle, but not big like a bodybuilder, which sounds crazy, since Derricc has generally been the hands-on guy and I’ve always been the sniper and stealth guy.
Anyways, I turn around and walk up to the guards and look down at them with a smug look on my face as I realize they can’t use their guns effectively at this range.
“You want to arrest me?” I say with an evil, satisfying grin on my face.
“Let’s see if you can.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Skydaddy0716 Hello everyone, I know it was partly repetitive for a bit but it was intentional for building the moment up.
there’s some action in the next chapter so hopefully you’ll enjoy
