21 connecting the dots Vera’s POV I know I talked a big game just now but I don’t think I can do this.
Erik has been my everything.
He rescued me from a life of humiliation and bullying and gave me a chance to help society in my own way.
Built me a lab to conduct my private research away from the eyes of others.
He’s even been willing to let me experiment on him.
Without hesitation even.
This man put all his trust and faith in my abilities from day 1.
Never laughed, never criticized.
Only ever gave his personal opinions and gave me feedback as another set of eyes.
Erik is our brain of the group, the coordinator.
He’s one that allows us to be in the right spot at the right times.
All 7 of us are able to showcase our abilities with an almost supernatural ease.
Yet despite all that on top of his sniper practice he still takes the time to make sure each and everyone has everything they need to be the best they can be.
That just makes it more of a surprise that he’s willing to risk everything on untested experiments.
I remember one time when Aurora and I sat him down and asked about his reasoning for taking care of us especially and to this day what he said gives me chills.
“The two of you have the potential to redefine the fields of science and medicine.
Science and medicine can affect everything from computers to vehicles and even improving hand to hand combat under the right circumstances.
Better understanding of the human body, the structure of new materials and research, and exploring how every concept you come up with can affect other fields is how we develop society to unparalleled levels.” It’s funny that now we’re at the point where we’re taking his statement and using his injuries to prove him right or wrong.
But it’s come down to the fact that I have to risk killing my love for even a slim chance to save him.
I just don’t know if I can.
I feel a hand on my shoulder.
I look and see Ashley with as gentle of a smile as can be and I look at Aurora who gives me a reassuring nod as she grabs my hand to calm my nerves.
I can feel my resolve coming back as I walk towards a nearby table and pull out the case from my pocket, and pull out the syringe from with in.
I walk up to Erik, grab a wipe from Aurora, clean the skin and I inject him with my nanobots.
“Ladies, no matter what happens, do not try to restrain or hold Erik down.
It’s going to look bad for a minute but it’s safe.” A few moments later, Erik’s body starts convulsing as if being possessed by a ghost.
I hold Ashley and Aurora by their waists as I keep them close to protect them.
“The body is resisting the nanobots.
It won’t be much longer.” 2 minutes later, the convulsing stops and the color of his skin reduces.
“Aurora, you may proceed.” What happens for the next 3 hours is something out of a fantasy novel.
Shes using titanium strings to hold the leg bones together after solving bone puzzles.
Specially made experimental aloe Vera made for extreme burns to work the leg and back burns while simultaneously removing dead skin and reworking the skin to reduce swelling and allow for faster healing.
The nanobots are allowing Aurora to handle tissue reconstruction and damage recovery.
She’s finished up and she looks so happy.
“Aurora, this must be what Erik hinted at when he told us the we have the power to change what science and medicine was capable of.” “You’re right.
I honestly can’t explain it but we just made the impossible possible.” We look at Ashley and we both walk up to her and give her a big hug.
“Ashley, we were successful.
Thank you for giving us the push to make this work.
We owe you big time.” “You two saved my husband.
That’s enough for me.” The three of us walk to the rest of the group with smiles on our faces.
“We did it, we saved him.” Everyone finally breathes a sigh of relief as we finally relax after today’s events.
“I’m glad Erik is alright, I’m sorry I’m late, but we need to figure this out as soon as possible so we can take action for him.” A voice behind me says as we all look at the person walking into the facility and we see that Ginefer.” “Welcome back Gin,” Derricc says.
“Everyone,” Aurora says “Erik will need sometime to rest and recover.
Vera and I have succeed in restoring Erik as much as possible but it’ll still be a while before he’s at full capacity.
Let’s take this elsewhere so he can recover.” ….
Ginefer’s POV I don’t have the emotional attachment to Erik the same way the others do.
That’s because I’m technically engaged to Derricc.
15 years ago, Erik and Derricc solved a crisis for my father, a Yakuza boss and my father was so impressed that he offered me to one of the twins.
Erik immediately said no because he was already married and had someone back home waiting for him.
Derricc wasn’t opposed nor was I but Derricc made it clear that he could’ve give me the life of a wife that my father wanted.
Derricc gave my dad a brief idea of what was going on and my dad was smart enough not to ask questions he shouldn’t.
He said it was ok for us to not be married but insisted we get engaged so whenever it was possible, we can get married.
Derricc agreed and Erik was very supportive of us.
The one thing that impressed me about Erik was his ability to deal with people.
He had this way of bringing the best out of everyone, myself included and I know I was hard to deal with, but he never showed it.
Erik was also very respectful of my space.
He treated me the same as everyone while also not getting physically closer to me more than he had to.
I respect that about him.
He knows his boundaries enough to push me without trying to get close to me in a way that is reserved for Derricc.
Erik also knew what I could improve on and worked tirelessly with Zira and Vera to give me the tools and practice I needed to give my best for every mission.
Erik is very important for the person I want to be and as my brother in law, someone who’s become very important in my life.
To say that losing him would devastate me would be an understatement.
That being said, I’m a girl of retribution, which leads us to where we’re at now.
My precious brother in law was nearly murdered by explosives that were supposed to be my fathers, but ended up being tampered with.
The Yakuza will not take this lying down.
“Derricc, give me a rundown on what happened.” Derricc explains what his operation looked like, the trap they walked into, the aftermath.
Selene also explains her side and Erik leading up to the accident.
“Derricc, this is now my dad’s business as well.” “You don’t mean”- “Yeah” I say, gathering the courage to reveal my secrets.
“Everyone, I am the daughter of a yakuza boss, and Derricc’s fiancé.
Erik is my brother in law, and also the reason that I was able to join this group instead of staying with my dad.” “Well that all explains why it seemed like Erik was keeping some distance from you,” Selene says.
“Erik was always very approachable and had very hands on training but always seemed to leave you only for Derricc as well as not getting to close.
That’s actually very respectable of him.” “That’s why my dad respects Erik so much.
Once my dad finds out his own weapons were used to injure one of our own, he’ll take that personally.
It’ll give us some allies for us to use when we get to the operation.” I look at Derricc and he smiles, a genuine smile, at me.
“Alright everyone, with Erik incapacitated at the moment, we need to get everything going so that when Erik is up and about, we can be ready to strike whenever he’s ready.” “Aurora, Vera, continue monitoring Erik make sure he’s doing ok and not regressing.
Anya, Selene, gather information, find this bastard’s hideout, find out if he’s working with other warlords, and anything else we’d need to know for this operations.
We need to know exactly what we’re dealing with this time.
Zira, for right now we don’t know what vehicles we may need so go ahead and help Ginefer with defense set up, and fortifications as we need them.
Ashley, Anna, no more cowards allowed in the area.
I want you two to get these damn civilians up to speed on military training and understanding the importance of working together under strict leadership and the pressures of actual gunfire.
I want to see a real army by the time we’re ready for the operation.
I will try to help with logistics while we’re getting this ready.” Derricc puts his hand in the middle “let’s do this right this time.” “No traps” Selene says “No interference” Anya says “No kidnappings” Zira says “No life threatening injuries” Aurora says “No burns or explosive damage.
“Vera says” “No cowards hindering us.” Ashley says No more losing people.” Anna says One by one they put their hands in the circle.
“No enemy escapes alive.” I say as we all give each other a look and we all look to where is in the next building.
We all look at each other and and we know what comes next.
