“So, you seem quite different from the rumors, don’t you?”
Apparently, Sogito seems aware that Damian’s lover, bought with money, is the rumored ‘Mother of Mercy.’
Since ‘Mother of Mercy’ is something Lily worked hard to create and spread, she can only hold her head high.
“Hehe, isn’t she lovely?”
When she tried showing a sweet smile, he responded with a scornful click of his tongue and a nasty remark. Even though he’s a noble, perhaps he’s just unconventional.
Even if dealing with commoners, his attitude is far too poor.
“She might have the makings of a vixen, don’t you think?”
“Originally, knights are supposed to exist to protect women and children.”
It was Damian who responded to the verbal abuse hurled at Lily with a cold voice.
Before she knew it, he was holding her close as if to protect her.
His large arms were sturdy and warm.
Enveloped in a sense of security, Lily couldn’t help but feel flustered.
This was supposed to be a one-sided love, with Lily only giving, wasn’t it?
This slightly deviates from the contract terms.
“Hey, don’t get seriously angry. The one who insulted first was…”
“Sogito. Besides, she’s very cute, isn’t she?”
“Ah, yeah, yeah, I get it… My bad.”
“Don’t apologize to me.”
“Miss, my attitude was indeed rude. Please forgive me.”
Glared at by Damian, Sogito bent his body sharply and bowed his head.
A noble bowing and apologizing to a commoner?
Lily hurriedly pulled away from Damian and turned to face Sogito.
She only retaliated because she was attacked; she didn’t particularly want an apology. Or rather, she didn’t expect to be apologized to, and it made her uncomfortable.
“I’m the one who spoke out of turn. I’m very sorry.”
“So, you forgive me then. See, that’s settled, right?”
“If she’s satisfied, then there’s no problem.”
“Well, I’ve seen how you’re doing, so I’ll head back now. I’ll make sure to properly tell that guy too.”
“Understood. I’ll make time again soon.”
“Alright, contact me.”
The previous hostility instantly dissipated. With a broad grin, Sogito raised a hand and briskly left the room.
“Shouldn’t you see him off?”
“He’s not the type to care about such formalities.”
Could that really be classified as a minor formality?
Well, since he, who’s known him for a long time, says so, it’s probably fine.
Left alone in the room with Damian, Lily looked at him anxiously, but he shook his head as if nothing had happened.
“More importantly, have you eaten?”
“Ah, y-yes. I have.”
“I actually wanted to have dinner with you. So, let’s eat together tomorrow.”
His face remained expressionless, but his voice was terribly gentle. And the content was a bit sweet.
He wanted to eat together? I see.
Well, wanting to have meals with one’s lover is a common story. A dinner date, I suppose.
She nodded repeatedly, but his gentle voice sounded excessively kind, which was problematic.
Or rather, she actually felt her body growing warm.
He was supposed to be displeased when they made the contract and even this morning. She had rushed here worried, thinking he might believe a lover bought with money was unnecessary after all.
Huh? Is this how a contractual lover is supposed to be treated?
