Wen Yu supported her by the waist as he bathed her. The little girl leaned against him, soft and limp, her eyes half-closed as she let him take care of her.
Wen Yu wrapped her in a bath towel and carried her back to the bed.
“Mmm… it hurts.” Ning Weiying opened her eyes slightly, uncomfortable. “You… don’t.” She nervously scooted backward. What was he doing?
“Baby, don’t move. I’m applying medicine.” Seeing her awake, Wen Yu sat up and pulled her into his arms, continuing what he was doing.
“I… I’ll do it myself.” Ning Weiying blushed, trying to break free from his embrace. So embarrassing.
“Baby, let your husband do it. It’s not like I haven’t seen it before. No need to be shy.” Wen Yu’s hand firmly gripped her waist, not letting her move.
“Alright, alright, almost done. Stop fussing.” Wen Yu pulled her little skirt back down.
“Why are you crying now?” Wen Yu held her, settling her on his lap, coaxing her. But the little girl refused to acknowledge him, simply burying her head and sobbing.
Was it really that embarrassing?
“Okay, okay, stop crying.” Wen Yu wiped her tears with his hand. The little girl in his arms hiccuped between sobs, ignoring him.
“You… you’re mean.” The little girl accused him, glaring at him with red-rimmed eyes.
“Fine, fine, I’m mean. Your husband will be gentler next time, okay?” Wen Yu kissed her lightly, his large hand gently massaging her waist. Tsk, how could she be as cute as a little rabbit?
Hmph, big liar. That’s exactly what he said last night.
Luckily, Ning Weiying only cried for a short while and didn’t make a fuss.
“Sleepy, aren’t you? Go to sleep.” It was already very late. Wen Yu laid her down on the bed, then lay down himself, holding her as he slept, his large hand patting her back gently.
In the middle of the night.
“Hm… hm.” Ning Weiying let out two uncomfortable whimpers, her voice too soft for Wen Yu to hear.
She grabbed his clothes and tugged. “Husband~” Mmm, she felt so awful.
Wen Yu opened his eyes. He thought she was having a nightmare, so he turned on the bedside lamp. Only then did he notice her complexion was off.
“What’s wrong? Where does it hurt?” Wen Yu gently propped up her body.
“Uncomfortable… want to throw up… ugh.” Before she could finish, she vomited. Ning Weiying leaned over the edge of the bed while Wen Yu patted her back from the side.
Why did she suddenly throw up out of nowhere?
“S… sorry.” She had wanted to make it to the bathroom, but there wasn’t enough time.
Wen Yu carried her to the bathroom and opened a packet of mouthwash for her. “Don’t say sorry. Are you still feeling sick? Do you still feel like throwing up?” Ning Weiying’s face was deathly pale, without a trace of color. It was alarming to look at.
Anyway, it had landed on the carpet. He could just throw it out later.
“I’m much better now.” Ning Weiying spat out the mouthwash and shook her head.
Wen Yu caressed her little face. Sigh, why couldn’t he seem to raise this little one properly?
“Where are we going?” Ning Weiying watched him dress her, speaking softly.
“To the hospital.” He wasn’t reassured. He needed to take her to get checked out.
“There’s no need, right?” She had only thrown up, not blood. Why go to the hospital?
“No. I won’t feel at ease until you get checked.” His tone left no room for argument. Ning Weiying knew she couldn’t out-stubborn him, so she let him carry her out the door.
“If you’re sleepy, close your eyes for a bit.” Wen Yu buckled her seatbelt. She hadn’t gotten much sleep, so she must still be tired.
She was indeed tired. She gradually fell asleep in the car, a small blanket draped over her.
“Nothing serious. Just indigestion. Be more careful from now on—don’t eat too much at night.” Jiang Huaian looked at the report in his hands. He happened to be on duty tonight, so he’d ended up being his brother’s errand boy once again.
“Got it, I’ll arrange a physical exam for her.” Wen Yu looked at the little girl sleeping soundly on the bed. She had only been with him for a few days and had already been to the hospital twice.
“Alright, I’m heading to my shift. You get some rest.” Jiang Huaian walked out, and Wen Yu got into bed to rest. It seemed he really needed to keep an eye on her from now on.
…
“Sweetheart, what happened?” Father Wen and Mother Wen rushed over early in the morning as soon as they heard their daughter-in-law was hospitalized. How could she end up in the hospital out of nowhere?
Wen Yu quickly covered Ning Weiying’s ears. Luckily, it didn’t wake her up. Wen Yu shot a cold glare over, and Mrs. Zhou glared back.
What are you looking at?
Wen Yu: …
Wen Yu got out of bed and made a gesture for them. The three of them walked out.
“Mom, what did you feed her last night?” Wen Yu felt that she must have given his wife something to eat yesterday.
Mrs. Zhou thought for a moment. She hadn’t given her anything special.
“Just, grilled cold noodles, takoyaki, jianbing, all kinds of barbecue and skewers—just the stuff young girls like. Didn’t you see it all yesterday?” Mrs. Zhou finished speaking and was still thinking, but Wen Yu’s face had already darkened.
“Don’t buy her those things anymore. She ate too much and got indigestion. Last night she was so uncomfortable she threw up.” Wen Yu was truly angry, and his tone was a bit harsh. When he saw her, the little girl hadn’t eaten much at all. It seemed she had already eaten quite a lot before he arrived.
Mrs. Zhou hadn’t expected that either. She just thought the girl was too thin and wanted to take her out for something good to eat. She never imagined it would end with her in the hospital.
Mrs. Zhou said nothing, lowering her head and twisting her fingers.
Wen Yu glanced at his father. “Alright, you two go back. I’ll take care of her.”
“I…” Mrs. Zhou wanted to say something more.
“Dear, let’s go back. It’s fine. Haven’t you not even woken up yet?” Father Wen wrapped his arm around her waist and gave it a gentle squeeze.
You little brat, daring to yell at my wife.
“Husband~” She wasn’t even awake yet, but she was already calling for Wen Yu.
“Sweetheart, why are you up so early? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?” Wen Yu walked to the bedside, sat down, and gently stroked her little face.
Ning Weiying nuzzled against his hand a couple of times and mumbled, “No~, but I’m hungry.” As she spoke, she pushed herself up on the bed trying to sit. Maybe she wasn’t used to the bed, so she hadn’t slept deeply.
“We’re going to do some tests in a bit. Let’s not eat anything first, okay?” Some tests required fasting, so he couldn’t give her food.
“What, what tests?” Would it hurt?
“Just a regular physical exam. Don’t be scared. I’ll be right there with you.” He knew she was afraid.
“Why do I need a physical exam?” Why would she need one out of nowhere? She wasn’t sick.
“Getting checked up will put my mind at ease. Did you know before that eating too much would give you indigestion?” Even though he already guessed the answer, he still wanted to hear it from her directly.
Ning Weiying shook her head. She didn’t know.
“Then let’s just do the check-up, okay?” Wen Yu leaned down and gave her little lips a gentle kiss.
How had she managed on her own before, letting herself get so thin?
The door to the room was pushed open. “I’ve put in a word. Someone will come to notify you in a bit. I’m off work now.” Jiang Huaian yawned. Just as he turned around, he looked back. “Haven’t eaten yet?”
Wen Yu: “No.”
Jiang Huaian: “Good. I’m leaving.”
Tsk, these two, so lovey-dovey.
Before long, someone came to take them for the check-up, and Wen Yu accompanied her the entire way.
However, the results wouldn’t be out until the afternoon. Wen Yu took Ning Weiying home first.
Jingyun Bay
Wen Moci: “Brother, sister-in-law, you’re back.”
“Hmm, why are you up so early?” Wen Yu crouched down to change Ning Weiying’s shoes. Usually, didn’t she sleep until noon?
“Mom and Dad said sister-in-law was hospitalized, so I thought I’d bring you two some food, but Dad wouldn’t let me go,” Wen Moci thought to himself. He’d been idle at home anyway, and he’d had enough sleep these past two days—it was boring.
Wen Yu: …
That old man sure holds a grudge.
“I’ll go make the food—you go play for a bit,” Wen Yu said, patting her little bottom.
“No need, Dad already made the food. Just need to heat it up,” she said, shifting her bottom to make room for her sister-in-law.
