Jean stared, her lips slightly parted at the handsome stranger with an arrogant smile on his face.
He was undoubtedly the most good-looking man she’d ever seen.
He wore a simple black leather jacket and black jeans.
His skin was a beautiful, spotless golden tan.
He had the start of a beard, and a visible moustache too.
His hair was scattered and curled, and for a moment she felt an impulse to run her hand through it.
On the bridge of his nose sat thin-framed silver glasses.
From what she could see, his eyes were blue, but that could be the light from the club on the glasses.
He was a man with lean muscles, she could tell.
He had broad shoulders, a thin, long neck, and long fingers that drummed on the bar counter.
Jean cleared her throat when she realized that she had been staring for too long.
“I’m sorry, did you say something?” She asked, thankful that she now had a semblance of control over her mind.
“I said, my God, you’re beautiful.” He answered, repeating the same words Jean had uttered a few moments ago.
Jean gave him a small smile before picking up the small glass filled with red liquid in front of her and taking a sip.
It was strong, and she knew if she took the whole thing at once, she’d end up drunk.
“What’s your name?” The handsome stranger asked, and Jean noticed that he had a faint Scottish accent.
“Jean,” Jean answered, then frowned, realizing how she had wanted to lie, but somehow he had forced the truth out of her just by looking at her the way he did.
“Well, Jean, I couldn’t help but notice that you look way too beautiful to be sitting out here by yourself.” “I’m actually waiting for someone.” The stranger leaned back a bit.
“Ah, I thought as much.
Is it work-related?” Jean frowned a bit at that.
“Yes, it is.” She noticed that he wasn’t taking anything, so she asked.
“You’re not having one?” She nodded at her small glass.
“I don’t drink.” She arched an eyebrow at him.
“Yet you assumed that I did?” “Well, you’re sitting at the bar.” He answered smoothly.
“Most people sit at bars when they want to have a drink.” “I said I was waiting for someone.” “And I believe you.” He replied with a smirk, and Jane barked out a laugh at that.
It wasn’t very often she interacted with someone who had a sense of humor.
She took another sip of her drink and relished the way it burned down her throat.
It was quite obvious that Dave wasn’t going to show as she glanced down at her wristwatch.
9:55 pm.
“You’re not from around here, are you?” The stranger asked suddenly.
“Morgantown,” Jean answered honestly again, despite her brain warnigood-lookingng her that she should not be revealing any private information to just any random, goodlooking stranger.
“That’s West Virginia.” He said, leaning forward.
“Yes, sir…” Jean answered warily.
The stranger gave a small nod of his head.
“I’m guessing you moved down here because of work?
Or school?
Parents still live there, or they moved too?” He was asking way too many questions, and Jean was starting to get suspicious, but she decided to answer at least one of his questions honestly.
“My parents are dead.” The handsome stranger suddenly went very quiet.
Jean shifted her attention to a couple in the club who were dancing together, like they did not have a single worry in the world.
For a moment, she wished that she could do that with Jeff.
It had been so long since they acted like a normal couple.
The only thing they ever seemed to do was have sex, and they went out together when he had some rich dude he wanted her to fuck to get some money from.
It’ll be over soon.
He promised that this was the last one.
And Jean decided that she was going to believe him this time.
He sounded sure of himself.
“I… I’m so sorry about that.” The stranger finally spoke, and Jean was quite surprised to find him still sitting beside her.
He had gone so quiet; she was sure that he had left.
“Oh, it’s fine.
They died a long time ago.” From what little she could see of his face, Jean was sure he went pale after hearing that.
“I am really sorry for bringing that up.” He apologized once again, and for a fleeting moment she imagined what it would be like to hear him beg for something, for her.
She shook her head.
The alcohol was already taking effect.
She took another sip.
“It’s fine, really.” She answered softly, and then there was silence between them.
Jean looked at the handsome stranger for a moment longer, and noticed, for the first time, the wristwatch on his hand.
Patek Phillipe.
Jean knew the brand because Jeff wouldn’t shut up about it.
She also knew that they cost no less than twenty thousand dollars, because Jeff had told her how fucking expensive they were.
“Nice watch.” She said, and he looked down at where the wristwatch sat on his wrist.
The handsome stranger looked down at the watch before shrugging.
“Family heirloom.” She squinted a little bit.
Either he thought she was stupid, or he came from a nice enough family.
The watch’s frame caught the light from the roof, and Jean could’ve sworn there were diamonds on it.
She decided then that she could not leave empty-handed.
She took her small glass cup and downed the remaining contents before rising to her feet.
“Want to get out of here?” She offered with a sultry smile.
