Jean did not know how long she spent in the exquisite bathroom, but she was certain that more than two hours had passed.
She had spent a long time in the hot tub, letting herself be fully immersed in the water, before moving to the cabinet and trying out every single thing she found in it.
After she was done carefully washing and combing her hair, she finally stepped out of the bathroom, the white bathrobe fastened around her body.
As she dried her hair with a towel, Jean made her way to the other door that was a short distance away from the bathroom, to the left, and when she opened the door, her breath caught in her throat.
This room was relatively smaller than the rest of the bedroom and bathroom, but what lay inside was… simply astonishing.
The inside of this room Jean had stumbled into was like a mini boutique.
Inside this room, on the built-in wardrobe that lined each side of the walls, were clothes- lots of clothes- and they ranged from shirts to trousers, suits, gowns for fancy occasions and casual gowns, sundresses both casual and extremely luxurious.
In the center of the room was a high glass box that reached Jean’s waist, and inside was a collection of shoes.
There were sneakers, loafers, sandals, slides, and there were more than Jean could wear.
At the end of the room, there was a wide, floor-to-ceiling mirror and also another small glass cabinet on the floor in front of it.
Inside this cabinet was a variety of jewellery, and the colours they gave as the light from above bounced off them made Jean’s head spin.
There were earrings made of gold, necklaces that looked diamond and also ones of gold with pendants that were either of the many gemstone necklaces… sapphire, ruby, emerald…
Jean stepped forward until she was standing in front of the glass.
She had abandoned her towel on the floor, and she slid the glass open before gently reaching out a hand to pick up the casing of the necklace that caught her eye.
It was a thin necklace, made purely of diamonds, and it had a small emerald stone that matched her eyes perfectly.
Carefully, Jean took the necklace from the case and brought it to her neck, admiring the way it looked and shone.
It looked perfect.
“Thinking of stealing something already?” Jean’s heart jumped to her throat, and in her fear, she let go of both the jewellery case and the necklace, both colliding with the rug with a faint thud.
Startled, Jean turned around to find Michael standing by the door, dressed in a black sweatshirt and also black joggers.
The color choice Michael had made made Jean wonder if she wasn’t ‘engaged’ to satan himself.
Jean’s eyes followed Michael’s as they moved to the ground, where the necklace and its case lay apart.
She brought her eyes back up to his face.
“I… I didn’t… I wasn’t going to steal it… I wasn’t going to steal anything.” Jean stammered out, and she hated herself for sounding like a little child that had just been caught stealing.
Michael gave her a lazy grin before resting on the frame of the door, arms folded across his chest.
“Weren’t you?
It looked like you were.” Jean lifted her chin, determined not to be so intimidated by Michael.
“I wasn’t going to steal anything.” She repeated more firmly, her eyes scanning the top corners of the room for hidden cameras because that would explain why Michael had barged in here the moment she put the necklace to her neck.
He did not trust her.
And to her surprise, Jean did not mind that at all.
Michael caught on to what she was doing pretty quickly and let out a scoff before pulling himself upright and stepping into the room.
“You think I’d have cameras in here?” Jean lifted her chin even higher to properly look into his eyes and show him that she wasn’t afraid of him.
“I wouldn’t put it past you,” Jean replied.
Michael let out a small chuckle, and it sounded so rich… and boyish, and Jean could not look away from him as his throat bobbed.
Jean gave her head a light shake to stop herself from noticing him.
She hated Michael, even though he was handsome and he had a pretty long neck with veins that were so pronounced.
She hated his pretty blue eyes and the sound of his voice, and she hated how her heart raced as he took another step closer.
Jean instinctively stepped back, and she felt the cool glass of the mirror through the robe on her back.
“Don’t mistake me for Jeff,” Michael said.
