11 – New Seats — Scene 1 – Another Monday The morning sun shone over Sunrise Residency.
Dhruv walked out of House No.
7 with his school bag hanging from one shoulder.
His white shirt was clean, but slightly wrinkled near the sleeves.
His black tie leaned noticeably to the left, and his blazer was folded over his arm instead of being worn.
Urvi stood at the door with a cup of tea.
“Your tie.” Dhruv looked down.
“It exists.” “It also looks like it’s trying to escape.” “I’ll fix it later.” “You always say that.” He smiled.
“Bye, Di.” — Outside…
Deep was sitting on the society wall, scrolling through his phone.
“There he is.” “The king of messy uniforms.” Dhruv looked at him.
“You’ve been waiting for five minutes.” “I know.” “You could’ve come later.” “I like complaining.” Alya arrived, carrying two notebooks against her chest.
Her silver hair was tied into a neat ponytail today.
She looked at Dhruv once.
Then sighed.
Without saying anything…
She straightened his tie.
“There.” Dhruv smiled awkwardly.
“Thanks.” “I don’t know how you walk around like this.” “I don’t really care.” “I noticed.” Just then…
Mitsuri stepped out of House No.
11.
Her long pink hair flowed freely behind her shoulders, gently moving with the morning breeze.
A tiny smile appeared on her face as she spotted the group.
“Good morning.” “Morning!” Deep waved dramatically.
Dhruv smiled.
“Morning, Mitsuu.” The moment the nickname left his mouth…
Everyone became quiet.
Mitsuri blinked.
“…Mitsuu?” Dhruv immediately realized it.
“…Sorry.” “It just came out.” For a second…
Mitsuri simply looked at him.
Then…
A warm smile spread across her face.
“I like it.” Deep slowly looked at Alya.
“…Did history just happen?” Alya smiled.
“I think it did.” — Scene 2 – Classroom Surprise XI-A buzzed with conversation.
Their class teacher entered carrying a seating chart.
“Everyone.” “We’ll be changing seats for this month.” Groans echoed across the room.
Students reluctantly packed their bags.
The teacher began reading names.
When she reached the middle rows…
“Dhruv Sharma.” “Seat B-3.” “Mitsuri Kanroji.” “Seat B-4.” The class immediately looked toward them.
Deep, peeking through the classroom window from the corridor, silently clenched both fists.
“MISSION PINK HAIR!” Alya pulled him away by the sleeve.
“Stop spying.” — Scene 3 – Desk Partners Dhruv placed his books neatly on the shared desk.
Mitsuri sat beside him.
She carefully arranged her notebooks into a perfect stack.
Dhruv looked at them.
“You organize everything?” She nodded.
“It helps me think.” He looked at his own desk.
Pens.
Eraser.
Notebook.
Everything scattered.
“…I think differently.” She laughed.
“I noticed.” — Scene 4 – Literature Club After classes…
Mitsuri walked toward the Literature Club room.
Inside…
Around fifteen students sat in a circle.
A senior smiled.
“We have a new member joining discussions today.” A boy sitting near the window closed his novel.
He had dark brown hair brushed neatly to one side and calm brown eyes.
He stood politely.
“I’m Kabir.” “I don’t think we’ve met.” Mitsuri smiled.
“I’m Mitsuri.” The meeting began.
Today’s topic…
“What makes a story memorable?” Students shared different opinions.
When Mitsuri spoke about keeping a journal…
Kabir listened carefully.
“That’s interesting.” “I’ve never met someone our age who journals every day.” She smiled.
“It helps me remember little moments.” Kabir nodded.
“I’d like to read something like that someday.” — Scene 5 – Cricket Practice Meanwhile…
On the cricket ground…
Dhruv defended another fast delivery.
Aditya nodded.
“Better.” Yash smirked.
“Still not beating me tomorrow.” “We’ll see.” Practice ended.
As Dhruv packed his bat…
He noticed students leaving the Literature Club building.
Among them…
Mitsuri.
She was walking beside a boy he hadn’t seen before.
They were talking.
Then…
Mitsuri laughed.
A genuine laugh.
The boy laughed too.
Dhruv stopped walking for just a second.
“…” Yash looked back.
“You coming?” Dhruv looked away.
“Yeah.” He continued walking.
— Scene 6 – School Gate Deep and Alya were waiting near the entrance.
Mitsuri walked over.
“Sorry.” “The club meeting ended a little late.” “No problem.” Kabir stopped a few steps behind her.
“It was nice talking to you.” Mitsuri smiled.
“You too.” “See you tomorrow.” He waved politely before heading toward his bicycle.
Dhruv had reached the gate just in time to hear the last part.
Deep looked between Kabir…
Then Dhruv…
Then Kabir again.
His smile slowly disappeared.
“Who’s that?” — Scene 7 – Walking Home The four walked toward Sunrise Residency.
Deep couldn’t hold himself back.
“So…” “Who was he?” “Oh.” Mitsuri smiled.
“Kabir.” “He’s in Literature Club.” “We talked about books.” Deep nodded slowly.
“I see…” Dhruv quietly listened.
Without joining the conversation.
Alya noticed.
She glanced at him for a moment.
He looked completely normal.
At least…
On the outside.
— Scene 8 – Evening Dhruv sat at his desk.
Mathematics.
Question one.
Done.
Question two.
Done.
Question three…
His pencil stopped moving.
For no reason…
The image of Mitsuri laughing with Kabir flashed through his mind.
He frowned.
“…” He tapped the pencil against the desk.
“What was his name again…” He immediately stopped himself.
“…Why do I even care?” He closed the notebook for a moment.
Walked to the balcony.
The evening breeze hit his face.
After a minute…
He laughed quietly at himself.
“This is stupid.” He returned inside.
Opened the notebook again.
And this time…
Forced himself to focus.
Outside, somewhere in Sunrise Residency, the lights slowly turned on one by one.
For the first time…
Dhruv wasn’t distracted by his phone.
Or by anime.
Just by a single laugh that refused to leave his mind.
