A clap of thunder exploded through the sky, and Jiang Yao abruptly woke from her dream.
Large beads of sweat rolled down her exquisitely beautiful cheeks. Her willow-like brows were slightly furrowed, and her red lips parted as she breathed heavily, still shaken from the fright. She lifted her eyes toward the window.
Outside, dark clouds blanketed the sky while violent winds roared. Tree branches swayed wildly.
Had she not already transmigrated into the modern world, she would have thought one of her fellow disciples was undergoing heavenly tribulation.
She lifted the blanket, casually grabbed a shawl from the bench at the foot of the bed, and walked out of the bedroom.
The enormous villa was deathly quiet, so silent that she could almost hear her own breathing.
An exquisite crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, illuminating the floor so brightly it reflected like a mirror. The entire Living Room was as bright as daylight.
“Madam, you’re awake.”
Jiang Yao turned around and saw a respectful-looking middle-aged woman walking out of the dining room, her face full of concern as she looked at her.
Jiang Yao slightly nodded in acknowledgment.
“What time is it now?”
“It’s eight o’clock.”
Jiang Yao rubbed her temples. After several breaths, she finally sorted out the current time in her mind. Winter nights came early. By eight o’clock, the sky outside had already turned pitch black. Perhaps because they were far from the city center, a few stars could still faintly be seen in the sky.
She had been in this world for almost two weeks now, yet she still was not accustomed to some of the terminology here.
“Where’s Su Muzhe?” Thinking of her cheap son, Jiang Yao casually asked.
“Young Master still hasn’t returned.”
“Still not back? Did he go to the Old Family Residence?”
The woman shook her head. “No, Madam. I already called to ask. The Old Family Residence said Young Master never went there. Young Master also hasn’t called home at all today.”
“Call him and ask where he is. See whether he needs the Driver to pick him up.”
The woman answered in acknowledgment.
The phone rang over and over again, yet no one picked up.
Jiang Yao could not help feeling irritated. What an utterly troublesome rebellious son!
After several unanswered calls, anxiety appeared on the woman’s face. “The weather is terrible today. Could Young Master have run into some trouble?”
Jiang Yao said nothing more and only replied, “Keep calling.”
Her indifferent expression made it seem as though Su Muzhe were not her biological son at all.
Well, that rebellious brat truly was not her biological son.
But no matter what, since she had occupied this body, she would shoulder the corresponding responsibilities and fulfill the duties she ought to.
Although she had entered the Dao through medicine, mastered swordsmanship, and dabbled somewhat in divination arts, calculating fortune and misfortune was still effortless for her. Su Muzhe’s life was destined to be smooth sailing, with no worries about food or clothing. Recently, there had not been any major calamities surrounding him either.
Although there were no major dangers, minor troubles constantly cropped up.
Jiang Yao returned to her room and sat cross-legged on the bed, calming her breathing and focusing her mind. Her current condition was extremely strange—her soul was obviously powerful, yet this body felt like a leaking container. Every time she used her divine sense, exhaustion washed over her. That was also why she had been drowsy and sluggish throughout these past two weeks. Fortunately, with daily cultivation, the feeling of rejection was gradually weakening.
Several breaths later, she opened her eyes and exhaled a mouthful of turbid air.
Even though her divination showed no major problem, she still could not feel at ease. She turned toward the walk-in closet, changed clothes, and hurried downstairs.
“Madam, you’re going out this late?” the woman asked. “It’s already so dark outside, and the weather is terrible.”
“I’ll call the Driver to take you.”
Jiang Yao paused briefly before nodding. If she wanted to reach her destination as quickly as possible, driving was the only option. But the original owner of this body did not know how to drive and did not even possess a driver’s license. Although Jiang Yao could use magic to make the four-wheeled vehicle move, after living in this world for two weeks, she had learned there was also something called a “surveillance camera.”
“Madam, where are we going?”
“Qinghe Street, Thames Bar.”
After speaking, she closed her eyes to rest.
Strangely enough, back on the Qiankun Continent, whenever she wished to use immortal arts in the mortal world, she would always be restrained by the Heavenly Dao. But after transmigrating into this era, it felt as though she had leaped beyond the Three Realms and escaped the control of Heaven itself. Jiang Yao did not know whether that was a blessing or a curse.
The Driver glanced at Jiang Yao through the rearview mirror. Seeing her already resting with closed eyes, he was filled with questions, but due to their employer-employee relationship, he naturally could not ask them aloud.
Bad weather easily led to accidents, so the Driver carefully drove the car. About twenty minutes later, they arrived at the destination.
“Find somewhere to wait for me. I’ll come down shortly.”
With that, Jiang Yao got out of the car.
Even in the dead of winter, places like bars still bustled endlessly with people.
However, the bar was not her destination.
She followed the street and turned into an alley, only to hear several arrogant voices.
“Idiot, didn’t you say his father was rich? Why are his pockets emptier than my damn face?”
“His father really is Su Jingyang,” one of the lackeys said meekly.
“Boss, high school students probably don’t carry cash anymore. Don’t they all use phones now? Just make him transfer the money.”
“Are you stupid? If he transfers money, won’t they trace my identity?”
“Damn it, what rotten luck!”
Seeing they could not extort any money, the hooligans viciously glared at the boy surrounded in the middle.
The youth’s expression remained cold and fearless despite the danger. He was tall and slender, like a young white poplar tree. His slightly parted bangs covered his brows and eyes, yet just the lower half of his face alone was enough to captivate countless girls.
The hooligan leader spat out the cigarette butt in his mouth and looked at Su Muzhe with a revolting grin curling across his lips. His gaze was frivolous as he slowly sized Su Muzhe up from head to toe.
“No wonder Yang Qianxue wanted to break up with me. This face really is something. Wonder what you taste like.”
At those words, Su Muzhe suddenly raised his head and swung a fist straight into the hooligan’s face.
“Watch your damn mouth! Who the hell do you think you are talking about?”
Caught off guard, the hooligan was punched to the ground. Furious, he lunged at Su Muzhe, throwing punches while spewing filthy insults nonstop.
At first, it was one-on-one, and the hooligan was completely suppressed. But seeing how badly their Boss was getting beaten, the others shamelessly swarmed forward together.
By the end of it, Su Muzhe was beginning to run out of stamina. Internally, he cursed Jin Jiaxin for still not showing up.
He and Jin Jiaxin had made an agreement—if they failed to contact each other for more than half an hour, it meant something had happened. Could that idiot have forgotten?
When Jiang Yao finally twisted and turned through the alleyway, she was greeted with the sight of Su Muzhe fighting seven or eight hooligans alone.
One against seven or eight people, and he had still managed to hold on this long. That was already fairly impressive.
Though his moves were still lacking.
If the disciples back on the Qiankun Continent heard her thoughts, they would probably mock her to death. A fifteen-year-old child with no martial arts foundation—how could he possibly compare to an old monster like her?
Jiang Yao stepped forward in two quick strides and lightly coughed. Her cool voice sounded exceptionally clear amidst the noisy sounds of fighting.
“Everyone, this is a society ruled by law. If surveillance cameras catch you, Policeman Uncle might invite you in for some tea.”
The group immediately stopped moving and collectively turned toward Jiang Yao.
“Well now, looks like one delivered herself right to us.” The hooligan leader crossed his arms and leered at the beauty before him with a frivolous grin. “Seems like I’m pretty lucky tonight. Little sister, don’t you know this is a surveillance blind spot?”
“Oh? A surveillance blind spot?” Jiang Yao endured the nauseating way he looked at her and smiled lightly. “So what you mean is, no matter what happens here tonight, the cameras won’t capture any of it. Is that right?”
“Exactly, little sister. Interested in having some fun with your Older Brothers?”
Jiang Yao replied with interest, “Sure. Fun is fun.”
