Police Station
“Where are your parents?” an older policeman asked.
“Policeman Uncle, can we not call the parents?” Jin Jiaxin begged with a miserable expression.
“Please, Policeman Uncle.”
Although he had been the victim this time, Jin Jiaxin had become traumatized from having parents summoned so many times before. The moment he heard the words “call the parents,” he instinctively became nervous.
“No. Your parents must understand the seriousness of this matter. Their child was robbed by hooligans, and they can still sleep peacefully?” After saying that, he gestured for the young policeman beside him to call Jin Jiaxin’s parents.
With a defeated expression, Jin Jiaxin hesitated before giving out his father’s phone number.
As for why he had not given his mother’s number—
Jin Jiaxin gave a bitter smile. If his mother had to come out into the freezing wind, his father would probably beat him even harder afterward.
“And your parents’ phone number?” the old policeman turned and asked Su Muzhe.
Su Muzhe paused for a moment, then looked toward Jiang Yao, who was drinking water across from him, and tilted his chin in her direction.
“I asked for your parents’ number. Why are you pointing at your sister? You’ve got the same parents anyway. Telling her is the same thing,” the old policeman said with a stern face.
Kids these days—whenever something happened outside or they suffered any grievance, they refused to tell their parents. Then afterward, they complained that their parents did not care about them! Day after day, they never let anyone rest easy!
Su Muzhe turned his head away and unwillingly muttered, “She’s my Mom.”
“What?” The old policeman looked at Jiang Yao in disbelief. His slightly trembling hand pointed toward her suspiciously. “You’re his guardian?”
Jiang Yao nodded. Was that really so hard to believe?
It truly was difficult to believe!
Just by looking at the expressions of the police officers on duty, it was obvious enough.
Jiang Yao looked only a little over twenty years old. How could she possibly have given birth to a fifteen-year-old son?
Her skin was pale and luminous like pearls glowing under the light. Her long hair flowed beautifully, and every smile and frown was breathtakingly enchanting. She simply did not fit the public image of a middle-aged woman at all.
“Perhaps it’s because I’ve lived comfortably all these years.” Jiang Yao casually brushed her hair back, set down her water cup, and walked over to sit beside Su Muzhe.
Once the two sat together, it became obvious that there were indeed many similarities in the contours of their brows and features.
However, Su Muzhe, being a boy, possessed sharper and more defined facial features, and his eyes had probably inherited more from his father.
Jiang Yao had standard peach blossom eyes, while Su Muzhe had phoenix eyes.
Thinking of this, Jiang Yao could not help sighing. She admired her own beautiful eyes the most. What a pity he had not inherited them.
The reason she maintained herself so well was partly thanks to the gradual recovery of her cultivation techniques, and partly because the original owner of this body had genuinely lived a pampered and luxurious life all these years.
At twenty years old, while still halfway through university, the original owner had become intimate with Su Jingyang. The following year, she gave birth to Su Muzhe. But throughout these years, Su Muzhe had lived at the Old Family Residence with his grandparents, while the original owner only occasionally remembered to visit him.
And by “visit,” it really meant taking a distant glance to confirm he was alive before leaving again.
It was not until this year, when he had been admitted into No.1 City High School and Jiang Yao became the owner of this body, that he was brought over to live with her.
As for the original owner’s husband, Su Jingyang, his attitude toward her was basically that of keeping a decorative vase at home. As long as she did not cause trouble, she could spend money freely and buy as much jewelry as she wanted. Sometimes he would not even call for ten days or half a month, remaining mysterious and elusive.
If not for the fixed amount of money deposited into the account every month, she would have thought the marriage itself was only a dream.
With living conditions this good, anyone would remain well-maintained instead of becoming worn and haggard.
The old policeman spent a while digesting this shocking revelation before adjusting his emotions and beginning to lecture Jiang Yao.
“As parents, you can’t only focus on yourselves. You need to care more about your child… Otherwise, if something truly happens to him someday, it’ll be too late for regrets! Call the family member over and sign the paperwork to take you home!”
“Yes, you’re absolutely right. From now on, I’ll definitely take good care of him.” After saying that, she turned toward Su Muzhe. “Call your Dad.”
“Why don’t you call him?”
Jiang Yao opened her mouth, but could she really admit that she did not even know Su Jingyang’s phone number? There was not even a contact saved in the phone.
“If I told you to call, then call.”
Unwillingly, Su Muzhe unlocked his phone and dialed the number.
After several rings, a deep voice came from the other end.
“Hello? Yanyan?”
Jiang Yao immediately shivered and quietly leaned closer. No one knew that Jiang Yao was not only obsessed with appearances but also a complete voice enthusiast.
“My wife and I are at the Police Station.”
The other side seemed to fall silent for several breaths before slowly asking, “Which one?”
“Shuangqing Alley, Lingshan Road.”
“Alright. I’ll head over immediately.”
Then the call ended.
“Well, Son? Is your Dad coming?” Jiang Yao asked.
“Didn’t you hear everything already?” the boy replied impatiently.
What a hassle.
Looking at Su Muzhe, who resembled a prickly hedgehog, Jiang Yao could not help sighing. The road toward repairing their mother-son relationship was truly long and arduous!
Then her thoughts drifted toward Su Jingyang, and her mind became a tangled mess again.
Su Jingyang and the original owner had lived separate lives all these years, yet they were still tied together by a marriage certificate. If one claimed it was for the child’s sake, that excuse did not even hold up.
Now that she had become Jiang Yao, should that relationship continue to exist?
Thinking about the luxurious life the original owner had enjoyed, continuing to live that way was not entirely impossible. Besides, she still had not repaired her relationship with her son. What if this rebellious brat turned out unfilial in the future?
Leaning against her good son, Jiang Yao looked listless. She had not felt anything while fighting earlier, but now her body felt strangely weak, as though she had consumed some kind of muscle-softening powder.
“What’s wrong with you?” Seeing Jiang Yao suddenly become dispirited, Su Muzhe instinctively grew nervous. He wrapped an arm around her, panic flickering across his face.
“I’m fine. I’m just sleepy.” She yawned as she lazily rested against Su Muzhe’s shoulder.
The Police Station’s heating was turned up very high. Jiang Yao had already lacked energy to begin with, and now that everything was over, drowsiness completely overtook her.
A trace of worry flashed through Su Muzhe’s eyes. During the half month since he had moved back into Mid-Mountain Villa, every time he asked where she was, Auntie Li always answered that she was sleeping. Aside from meal times, he rarely ever saw her awake.
So the reason she had not visited him before… was because her health was poor?
But earlier in the alley, she had kicked a hooligan flying with one strike. That did not seem like something a weak and sickly person could do at all.
Could she have some kind of strange illness?
At that thought, Su Muzhe panicked.
“Later we’re going to the hospital for a check-up.”
Hearing that, Jiang Yao sighed. “Your Mom is really fine. There’s no need to go to the hospital.” Catching the flash of panic on his face from the corner of her eye, she quietly added, “I’m already used to it.”
“Used to it? How can someone get used to this? It’s your own body. Can’t you pay more attention to it yourself?”
“Fighting is exhausting too, okay? I’m only tired. Besides, this is already the time I normally sleep every day. Of course I’m sleepy.”
Su Muzhe turned his head away arrogantly. “Who’s worried about you?” As he spoke, he removed his school uniform jacket and handed it to Jiang Yao, leaving himself wearing only a sweater.
“Put it on.”
Jiang Yao smiled. “I didn’t expect my son to be someone cold on the outside but warm on the inside. But it’s fine, I’m not cold. Hurry and wear it yourself.”
The current Jiang Yao was no longer affected much by ordinary winter winds. But her son had neither tempered his body nor cultivated any techniques, so he should take care of himself first.
More than ten minutes later, a commotion suddenly arose outside the police station entrance.
Jin Jiaxin was the first to see the newcomer and excitedly shouted, “Yanyan, your Dad is here!”
